I got the Sony Cybershot DSC-HX9V digital compact travel camera. In this video I unbox it and show you some detailed close-up shots of the camera itself. A collection of photos and videos taken this past weekend using the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX9V. None of the videos or photos have been altered and are being presented fresh from the camera. The video was taken in the camera's highest resolution--1080p at 60fps (28mbps bitrate). I purchase the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX9V to replace my Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX7V, which had an unfortunate meeting with the sidewalk. While I loved the HX7, I was surprised by how much better the HX9V performed (although the internal hardware is mostly the same). In my opinion, the HX9V is worth the extra $50.00 over the price of the HX7. Before buying the HX9, I bought the Panasonic ZS10 (TZ20 in Europe). I kept the panasonic for less than 24 hours. After 200 pictures and 35 minutes of video, the Panasonic was a big disappointment (especially considering how much I love my three year old Panasonic TZ5). The photo and video quality of the ZS10 pales in comparison to either the HX7 or HX9 (and the photo quality doesn't come close to my old TZ5). I will be posting a comparison of the cameras soon.

This is the second in this series concentrating on the shooting modes of the Sony hX9v compact digital camera. In the first video I looked at the intellegent auto and superior auto modes and discussed some of the issues these 2 modes create. By using the P mod we free ourselves of the scene modes which the camera tries to categorise the image into. It also gives us the opportunity to choose colour modes and adjust individually saturation, contrast and sharpness to achieve our desired image. By keeping the camera ISo to below ISO800 the camera can give some great images - especially so at ISO 100. Illustrated with example images to demonstrate the effects.

Best viewed at 1080p. Struggled with the light on this one and it shows with the blown highlights. Because of the wind buffeting i had to overdub some of the audio. Some of the Audio is original. The HX does seem to suffer quite badly from wind buffeting. There is a wind cut function in the menu, i'll adjust next session.

A comparison in some of the key areas of these 2 competing cameras. Both cameras were set at 1080i at 30fps. My conclusion - The Sony DSC-HX9V has shown to be a strong performer when recording in low light conditions and having a much more effective image stabilizer (especially while walking). The Casio EX-ZR100 has 2 particular strengths - better overall sound quality, as reflected also by the higher 355 kbps audio bit rate, and faster start-up time for video (instant upon pressing the record button versus approximately 6 sec for the Sony to start after pressing the record button). Therefore, it really depends on your priorities as far as which camera is best suited for you. Simply stated, the Sony wins in overall video quality and effective image stability and the Casio wins in having more solid audio quality when recording live musical performances at loud volumes rich in bass (the Sony sounds very thin and somewhat noisy as a result of the lower 128 kbps audio bit rate).

I caught part of a pre July 4th fireworks show and figured it was a good opportunity to show off the HX9V and its great video quality even in low light. This was shot in PS video quality mode, 28 MBPS, 1080p 60p AVCHD format. I uploaded the clip raw however YouTube does re-encode the video so keep that in mind. I continue to be impressed by the audio quality of this compact ultra zoom photographic tool. More samples to come from this great camera that I can't put down. Enjoy! -TDD
