Light offshore winds and lined up swell provided the the top 32 with world class waves, allowing for one of the best air-shows of 2011 to unfold before the the local Puerto Rican crowd. Hayato racked up the best two wave combination of the day with a series of strong combo's but the highest single score went to Spanish rider Alvaro Marin who posted a 9 pointer for a deep tube ride. R3 will hit the water at 9am and the GQS will be finished tomorrow finalising the 7 positions that will make the main event later in the week. MUSIC// KNESSET - Brain Waves In Flight performed by Knesset Adam Morley (Mossel Bay, ZAF) has taken out the 2011 Sintra Portugal Pro trials in very contestable 1.5 meter waves at Praia Grande. Morley managed to link up clean air-roll-spin to roll combinations throughout the day, securing him a well deserved 2000 points towards his 2012 Grand Slam qualification campaign. Morley is looking good to qualify for the 2012 GSS, requiring only one good result in a standalone GQS event, very achievable at the next Qualifying IBA event in early September at Ferrol, Spain. Morley commented: "I am so stoked to win today's trials, but now the real work starts. Morley added, "It will be epic to have three South African's in a Grand Slam event. Dave Hubbard from Hawaii showed his versatility on a bodyboard when he won the dropknee final against new world champion Damian King and came second to Frenchman Pierre-Louis Costes in the men's final at the Encanto Pro Puerto Rico today. With less than 30 seconds left in the final the Frenchman still needed a good scoring wave to win, in the hollow four to six foot conditions. A wave came his way and he gave it his all, landing two back flips in a row and getting the score. His friends carried him on their shoulders to the presentation area where he celebrated his first Grand Slam Series win in front of the cheering crowd. King was carried on the shoulders of his Australian friends to the competitors area. Ardiel Jimenez from the Canary Islands, the man Damian King had to beat to become world champion, walked over and congratulated him on his win. Damian's father in-law, Jimmy, handed him a beer before King walked on stage to receive his trophy. Visibly emotional, Damian King thanked his father in-law for all his support and the crowd for being so great. Puerto Rican, Natasha Sagardia, caused two major upsets in today's Women's World Tour round four and quarterfinal heats. Natasha beat world numbers one and two, Eunate Aguirre from the Basque Country and Brazilian Neymara Carvalho, while her mother cheered for her from the beach. Sagardia's win over Aguirre means the WWT title race will be decided in the Azores Islands, the final stop on the WWT. Australian Women's Tour champion Lily Pollard will face Natasha Sagardia in the semi-finals. The other semi is between Brazilians, Karla Costa-Taylor and Isabela Sousa. After making it through the stressful leader board rounds he won his first elimination round for this year on the IBA GSS World Tour, against Jared Houston. Unfortunately in the 3rd Quarter Final on the Final Day, Novy couldn't stop Alex Uranga, who eventually went on to win the Event.

Hugo Pinheiro and Rita Pires were the best in Santa Catarina, the third stop of the National Bodyboarding Tour, which will take its decision in Carcavelos, between 17 and 19 In December. Hugo Pinheiro staged a thrilling finale against the talented athlete from Figueira da Foz, Jaime Jesus, to snatch victory on his last wave after domination from Jesus. It was Pierre's IBA GSS win, and he was pumped. With this win Pierre is now in 2nd place on the IBA GSS World Tour Rankings, and the IBA GSS World Tour Champion for 2011 will be crowned at the infamous "El Fronton" in the Canary Islands. He dislocated his collar bone 2 days before coming and continued to enter in the trials, which he won. He then went on to take on the world's top 24 IBA World Tour bodyboarders in the main event, and after going face first in the reef he defeated Jake Stone in the final. What an amazing effort!
