Clemson University hosted more than 100 auto industry representatives from around the world on April 5th and 6th for the International Conference on Sustainable Automotive Technologies at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR). It was the first time for the conference to be held in North America. After visiting Clemson's main campus earlier in the week, Dr. Klaus Scharioth, German ambassador to the United States, told the conference that investments between Germany and the United States, such as BMW's South Carolina plant, help foster an exchange of ideas and new techniques. I was invited to do a 20 minute lap session in a cup lite car at Mirabel, Quebec. The cars are 2/3 scale NASCAR cars, with yamaha 700cc 2 stroke snowmobile motors and clutching, rear wheel drive, live axle, and hoosier slicks. They almost drive like a legend car. Here's a couple of minutes of footage. Thanks to Pierre-Andre Modieau for letting me try his car, it was a great experience!
