John Gunderson vs.Wagnney Fabiano -IFL
Round 1 (Images) The fight starts with both men standing and trading punches. Fabiano doesn't seem to be in a hurry to get the fight to the ground at the moment, which might be a dangerous strategy. Fabiano clinches and presses Gunderson against the ropes, but Gunderson defends the takedown well. Fabiano digs for the underhooks and manages to put Gunderson down, but Gunderson does a good job of defending against Fabiano's ground attack. Round 2 Gunderson lands a good right hand and then winces in pain. It looks as if he may have broken his hand with that punch. Fabiano gets another takedown and as Gunderson tries to escape Fabiano locks on a guillotine. Gunderson rolls to his back but Fabiano continues to squeeze. Gunderson is forced to tap out, and Fabiano will move on to face Chris Horodecki in the finals of the Grand Prix in December. Wagnney Fabiano defeats John Gunderson via submission (guillotine choke) at 1:53 of round two.

IFL Fighter Chris Horodecki
Don't be fooled by the looks of this teen who happens to be the youngest performer in the IFL at 19, and appears to be at least three years younger. Chris Horodecki, undefeated in his first six MMA matches, including his first two IFL bouts, is one tough customer, and already ranks in the top echelon of the league's lightweights. Horodecki was born in Poland, moved to Canada as a youth and now competes for the Los Angeles-based Anacondas. At age 13, he attended a seminar run by Shawn Tompkins in Ontario and was hooked. He developed his skills quickly, particularly his striking, and just days after his 18th birthday dispatched his first victim, a 29-year-old with 11 previous bouts. His age has not deterred Horodecki from letting his personality shine. On a team full of strong personalities, Horodecki has earned a reputation as something of a joker, but more importantly has earned the respect of his teammates and, so far, his vanquished opponents.

Both fighters start carefully, trading punches from distance. Schultz shoots in for a takedown and puts Horodecki down. "The Lion" goes to work inside Horodecki's guard, posturing up and landing some heavy right hands from the top. Horodecki is unable to break his posture as Schultz moves to half-guard and continues raining down huge right hands. Horodecki is in serious trouble, and when he fails to respond to Schultz's punches the referee moves in to stop the bout. Ryan Schultz defeats Chris Horodecki via TKO (punches) at 2:51 of round one. Schultz is the IFL lightweight champion.

IFL Weigh In Vegas 2008
All fighters made weight Thursday afternoon, giving the green light for the IFL's first event of 2008 here in Las Vegas. The weigh-in was punctuated by an enthusiastic reception for lightweight champion Ryan Schultz, followed by an intense staredown between Schultz and challenger John Gunderson. In another tense face-off, Dennis Davis and his former student Ian Loveland seemed to have no problem putting their past relationship behind as they both seemed eager to go at it. The build-up to this fight has seen somewhat incendiary comments from both men, and their meeting at the weigh-in only added to the excitement. The action gets underway from the Orleans Arena Friday night at 7:30 pm PST/10:30 EST with a two and a half hour live broadcast on HDNet.
