Chocolate Bunny Melts Under Incandescent Light, Survives LED Light

CreeLEDRevolution.com A chocolate bunny is placed under a 65W incandescent light and a 12W Cree LRP-38 LED lights. About 90 minutes later, the chocolate bunny under the incandescent light melts since about 90 percent of energy from them is emitted as heat. Energy efficient LED lights produce significantly less heat. In the middle of the time lapse, the bunny under the incandescent light fell over. You'll see my hand adjusting the plate so the chocolate bunny remains in the shot.

Mercury Pollution from Compact Fluorescent vs Incandescent Light Bulbs

Here I thought I'd share a bit of research I did over the past few days. Are incandescents better because they don't contain mercury? NO. We can reduce mercury pollution from CFLs to zero by taking two steps: 1) use clean sources of power, 2) recycle the bulbs after they blow. Think about it.

Incandescent Ballast

Experimental wiring of a standard incandescent light bulb connected in series with a small F15T12 15 watts fluorescent lamp to act as a ballast. The incandescent bulb regulates the current arriving to the fluorescent lamp preventing it from destruction, the same was a typical magnetic ballast would work. The best result for light output, heat, electrode use and optimal lamp lifespan is to use a 60 watts 120 volts incandescent bulb. Be careful not to overdrive your fluorescent lamp. You need a current of 0.5 amps for the tube to fire up. Watts / Volts = Amperes. In this case, 60 / 120 = 0.5 This is a nice little project for under 20 bucks if you want a mix of smooth incandescent and bright fluorescent light. Using a bulb also get rid of any hum or annoying buzz from a regular ballast. This can be great for bed light, desk lamp where the hum can be a nuisance, however it is not a efficient solution for economical application as the wattage loss is greater with an incandescent ballast than a magnetic type.

Philips EcoVantage incandescent light bulbs: cool to the touch

Info on the alleged "2012 incandescent ban": members.misty.com Philips EcoVantage are halogen incandescent light bulbs designed to meet the new 2012 efficiency standards, with brighter lighting at lower wattages and longer service life -- all without the disadvantages of compact fluorescents. And thanks to the shape of the halogen capsule inside, the bottom of the glass bulb stays cool to the touch. EcoVantage bulbs are available in regular Soft White as well as less yellowey "Natural Light" (similar to GE Reveal), in a variety of wattages. So far I've been able to find them on the shelf at A&P and Wegman's, plus you can order them online.

Reenacting Edison's Invention of the Incandescent Light Bulb

Produced in conjunction with Light's Golden Jubilee, a campaign celebrating the 50th anniversary of Thomas Edison' invention of the commercially available electric light bulb, which ended with an event held in Dearborn, Michigan on October 21, 1929. In the evening, after a banquet in Thomas Edisons honor, Edison, Henry Ford, and Herbert Hoover went to Edisons reconstructed Menlo Park Laboratory, New Jersey, laboratory in Greenfield Village. Here they met with Edisons former assistant, Francis Jehl, for a reenactment of Edisons creation of the first successful incandescent light bulb fifty years before. Modern subtitles have been added to compensate for the primitive late 1920s sound recording of the event.

FPTV ep. 9: "Global Warming" and the Incandescent Lightbulb

In mid February of 2007, the McGuinty government announced that it was considering a host of power conservation measures, including a ban on the incandescent lightbulb. Both the governing Liberals and the opposition Progressive Conservatives referred to this proposal as one aimed at fighting global warming by limiting CO2 emissions. Opposition leader John Tory actually suggested that the ban should be imposed immediately, to fight global warming, and that McGuinty's slowness to ban the incandescent bulb was unacceptable. In this episode of FPTV, Freedom Party of Ontario leader Paul McKeever exposes the actual reason for the incandescent lightbulb ban in Ontario. Hint: it isn't a fight against global warming.

This is basically the same model Stirling engine as in the previous video, but it has been made more rigid structurally and fitted with a linear alternator. The alternator has a Neodymium magnet 25 mm in diameter attached to the power piston of the Stirling and a coil fixed to a wooden armature. The coil is connected to an incandescent bulb (Christmas decoration type) which glows as the engine picks up speed.

Light Bulbs vs. The Nanny State

In September, the European Union banned the sale of 100-watt incandescent light bulbs, with lawbreakers facing up to $70000 in fines. Over the next few years, bans on lower-wattage bulbs kick in. In the United States, similar legislation comes into play in 2012. The idea is to kickstart the market for compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), which use less energy than conventional incandescents. Although CFLs present any number of problems (even beyond a much higher initial cost), governments all over the globe are determined to make them the new standard. Invented in its modern form by Thomas Edison in 1879, the light bulb became synonymous with a brilliant idea. Now, it seems, it's just one more symbol of a nanny state that increasingly dictates more choices in our public and private lives. "Light bulbs vs. The Nanny State" is produced by Meredith Bragg and Nick Gillespie. Approximately two minutes. Go to reason.tv for embed code and downloadable versions.

TMBG-Why Does The Sun Shine? (The Sun Is A Mass of Incandescent Gas) original version lyrics

The sun is mass of incandescent gas, A gigantic nuclear furnace, Where hydrogen is built into helium At a temperature of millions of degrees. Yo ho! It's hot, the sun is not a place where we could live. But here on earth there'd be no life without the light it gives. We need its light. We need its heat. We need its energy. Without the sun, without a doubt There'd be no you and me. The sun is mass of incandescent gas, A gigantic nuclear furnace. Where hydrogen is built into helium At a temperature of millions of degrees. The sun is hot. (It is so hot that everything on it is a gas, iron, copper, aluminum, and many others.) The sun is large. (If the sun were hollow, a million Earths could fit inside, and yet, the sun is only a middle sized star.) The sun is far away. (About 93 million miles away, and thats why it looks so small!) And even when it's out of sight, the sun shines night and day. The sun gives heat. The sun gives light. The sunlight that we see. The sunlight comes from our own sun's atomic energy. (Scientists have found that the sun is a huge atom-csmashing machine. The heat and light of the sun come from the nuclear reactions of hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, and helium!) The sun is mass of incandescent gas, A gigantic nuclear furnace. Where hydrogen is built into helium At a temperature of millions of degrees.

Tungsten ballasted fluorescent lamp circuit (100W filament lamp and 20W fluorescent tube)

Such things use to be available where a mixture of fluorescent and incandescent lighting was required back in the 50s and 60s. You could get special filament lamps to use in series with a fluorescent tube and special MCFB or MCFD tubes with one or two internal conductive stripes connected to the opposite cathodes suitable for use with a tungsten ballast circuit or resistor ballast. I've tried this before and it does indeed work so this time I decided to video it. You can also see that it works without a starter provided the tube is near an earthed object so I had to use my hand, also look how the electronic starter performs terribly with this circuit!
