Income Inequality Ignorance

Despite the gap between rich and poor in the United States growing steadily since the 1970's most Americans are not getting angry or protesting in the streets. This could be because most of them are unaware of it, with both lower and upper class people considering themselves to be middle class.

Income Inequality

As a conservative, I disagree with many of the policies of the Obama administration. The policy that I have the biggest problem with is the class warfare campaign that has now been going on for three years. We all watched as the Occupy Wall Street protestors railed against corporate executives. While many Americans were against the bank bailouts, I think we all need to put this income inequality campaign into perspective.

Obama Vs Bush On Income Inequality Growth

Via Naked Capitalism: "...under Bush, the 1% captured a disproportionate share of the income gains from the Bush boom of 2002-2007. They got 65 cents of every dollar created in that boom, up 20 cents from when Clinton was President. Under Obama, the 1% got 93 cents of every dollar created in that boom. That's not only more than under Bush, up 28 cents. In the transition from Bush to Obama, inequality got worse, faster, than under the transition from Clinton to Bush. Obama accelerated the growth of inequality. The data set is excellent, it's from the IRS and it's extremely detailed. This yawing gap of inequality isn't an accident, and it's not just because of Republicans. It's a set of policy choices...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down. Income Inequality Discussion - Nick Hanauer

Billionaire Nick Hanauer recently spoke at TED Talk about income inequality. After the speech, TED decided it was not going to release it to the public.. www.sott.net If you're plugged into the Internet, chances are you've seen a TED talk - the wonky, provocative web videos that have become a sort of nerd franchise. TED.com is where the slogan of the nonprofit group behind the site is "Ideas Worth Spreading." TED organizers invited a multimillionaire Seattle venture capitalist named Nick Hanauer - the first nonfamily investor in Amazon.com - to give a speech on March 1 at their TED University conference. Inequality was the topic - specifically, Hanauer's contention that the middle class, and not wealthy innovators like himself, are America's true "job creators." You can't find that speech online. TED officials told Hanauer initially they were eager to distribute it. "I want to put this talk out into the world!" one of them wrote him in an e-mail in late April. But early this month they changed course, telling Hanauer that his remarks were too "political" and too controversial for posting. Other TED talks posted online veer sharply into controversial and political territory, including NASA scientist James Hansen comparing climate change to an asteroid barreling toward Earth, and philanthropist Melinda Gates pushing for more access to contraception in the developing world. Hanauer's talk "probably ranks as one of the most politically controversial talks we've ever run, and ...

Income Inequality Increases More After Government Redistribution - Professor Richard D Wolff

PUBLISHED ON NOVEMBER 8, 2011 The Congressional Budget Office release a report revealing that income inequality between the top 1% and top 99% has (unsurprisingly) increased between 1979 and 2007. According to the report, the top 1% nearly doubled their income and the brunt of this is born by the middle class. Furthermore, after factoring in government "redistribution," statistics show that the income inequality is worse. The claim that the government redistributes income from rich to poor is not the case--it is the other way around.
