Thanks Jimi Festival - Guinness Guitar Record

Since 2003 the Thanks Jimi Festival has been an annual event paying tribute to Jimi Hendrix taking place in the historic center of Wroclaw Guitar City, Poland. In 2006 this gathering established a new world record for the "largest guitar orchestra" with 1581 guitarists playing "Hey Joe" together. This year the Thanks Jimi Festival is transforming into the center of an annual 1st of May "World Guitar Day" and is expanding significantly with satellite events happening simultaneously around the world as well as private individuals and smaller groups being able to also take part in real time via the web. 2007 only looks to be bigger than last year's record breaker. We hope you will join us in a day of global, positive creative celebration and a new UNION and solidarity (this is Poland after all...) of guitar. Be a part of making the 1st of May WORLD GUITAR DAY !!! more information here: cichonski.art.pl www.myspace.com

1939 Polish Defensive War - The Beginning of World War II

No copyright infringement intended This video may not be suitable for young viewers. W 1939 roku Polska zaatakowana została równocześnie przez dwa największe w historii ludzkości totalitaryzmy. Film dedykuję tym, którzy wyszli w pole stawić im czoło. THE SOVIETS The Soviets looked to destroy Polish self-rule using deportation of hundreds of thousands of Polish citizens and forcing their system of government upon them. They set out to remove a thousand years of Polish cultural influences. Polish was replaced in official usage. Schools spread Soviet indoctrination and religious education was forbidden. Monuments were destroyed, street names changed, bookshops closed, libraries burned and publishers shutdown. Soviet censorship was strictly enforced. Even the ringing of church bells was banned. In 1940 and the first half of 1941, the Soviets deported more than 1500000 Poles, most in four mass deportations. Most of them died of freezing cold, starvation and disease. The first deportation took place February 10, 1940, with more than 220000 sent to northern European Russia; the second on April 13-15, 1940, sending 300000 to 330000 primarily to Kazakhstan; a third wave in June-July 1940 totaled more than 240000 perhaps 400000; the fourth occurred in June, 1941, deporting 200000. The fourth wave contained a large number of children. Upon resumption of Polish-Soviet diplomatic relations in 1941, it was determined based on Soviet information that more than 760000 of the deportees <b>...</b>

(2/12) World War II Mind of a Code Breaker

World War II Videos During the two years of the war, British cryptologists decoded German communications with limited success. Older codes, used for low security messages, were readily identified and broken by the Bletchley Park team. Some newer codes were broken mathematically, but decoding and translating these messages by hand proved an arduous task. By the time messages were fully understood, the information they contained was often outdated. Compounding the problem, these intercepts contained very little useful intelligence information. Since the mid-1930s, the German government had used complex cipher machines to disguise their most important communications. The first great code breaking triumph at Bletchley Park came on August 30, 1941. A British "Y Station," one of the military listening stations that intercepted German communications, picked up a depth, a repeat transmission that used the same settings on the cipher machine. This intercept was forwarded to Bletchley Park. Cryptologists identified as "fish," the nickname for a message produced by the illusive Geheimschreiber cipher machine. Within two months, the Bletchley Park team broke the high-level German code. To facilitate the processing of "fish" intercepts, Bletchley Park engineers borrowed an idea from plans the Polish intelligence service gave Britain before the war. They constructed a machine that aided the deciphering of intercepts, nicknamed a "bombe" because of the low, roaring noise it made while <b>...</b>
