They gave his father, Dr. Ken Veteto, a Tulsa Internal Medicine Doctor, a very gloomy prognosis. Cody's parents, family and friends gathered around him. TMZ reports that the lawsuit was filed on Wednesday July 20 in LA County Superior Court. The players and their wives claim, "The NFL knew as early as the 1920's of the harmful effects on a player's brain of concussions; however, until June of 2010 they concealed these facts from coaches, trainers, players and the public." The suit alleges that the NFL commissioned a study in 1994 called "NFL Committee on Mild Traumatic Brain Injury", followed by a report published in 2004. Both studies concluded there was "no evidence of worsening injury or chronic cumulative effects" from multiple concussions. In June of 2010, the NFL finally admitted that concussions can lead to dementia, memory loss and other symptoms. The NFL — along with Riddell, the manufacturer of their helmets — are being charged with fraud, negligence and failure to warn. It happened during the second quarter of the game as Manning dropped back to pass. According to ESPN, Manning collided with Giants running back Brandon Jacobs just before he was hit by Jets linebacker Calvin Pace. Manning's helmet came off and as he fell forward, he struck the face mask of Jets safety Jim Leonhard. A stunned Manning got to knees and then found his feet, immediately heading for the sidelines, as blood ran down his forehead and face. Manning did not return to play. The Giants went on to beat the Jets 31-16. ESPN says Manning suffered a "3-inch laceration on his head" that required 12 stitches to close. In a statement released by the Giants, Manning said "I feel fine." According to the Giants, Manning "showed no signs of a concussion" and "an X-ray revealed no damage." Manning went on to say in his statement that "I feel normal. I'll be back as soon as I can. It's really not an injury. Nothing serious. I really could go back out and play right now if I had to."
