Sikorsky H-19 Helicopter Flight Training - 1956 US Army instructional film

This film covers the H-19's preflight inspection, taxiing, normal takeoff, hovering, autorotations, normal and steep approach, and engine shutdown. Courtesy en.wikipedia.org The Sikorsky H-19 Chickasaw, (also known by its Sikorsky model number, S-55) was a multi-purpose helicopter used by the United States Army and United States Air Force. The H-19 Chickasaw holds the distinction of being the US Army's first true transport helicopter and, as such, played an important role in the initial formulation of Army doctrine regarding air mobility and the battlefield employment of troop-carrying helicopters. The H-19 underwent live service tests in the hands of the 6th Transportation Company, during the Korean War beginning in 1951 as an unarmed transport helicopter. Undergoing tests such as medical evacuation, tactical control and front-line cargo support, the helicopter succeeded admirably in surpassing the capabilities of the H-5 Dragonfly which had been used throughout the war by the Army.

Mind Your Manners (1953)

This classic stars "Woody" from Dating Dos and Don'ts -- a few years older, but just as out of touch with reality. As "Jack," he goes through this entire film being unbelievably polite, but the weird leer on his face makes you wonder what he's really thinking. Don't miss the soda shop populated by waitresses in Hans Brinker costumes(!), or the montage of adults thinking approvingly of Jack's behavior. Producer: Coronet Instructional Films

Cindy Goes to a Party (1955) Educational Film

After a conversation with her friend Dennis, Cindy is rather perplexed that she did not receive an invitation to Mary's party. In the tradition of Dream Vision folklore (cf. Chaucer, &c.), Cindy has a dream wherein her Fairy Godmother teaches her and Dennis how to have a fun time at a party. It goes without saying that the reason why kids are the way they are these days is because the teachings of this film are no longer taken seriously. Note also the incredible caliber of the acting. Blah, blah, and blah.

This fascinating 1958 documentary titled "How film is made", that documents the production process and birth of photographic and cinematic film, was initially uncovered as part of a heritage in the Netherlands. Although its exact source and purpose are as of yet still unknown, it may have been an instructional film for new employees at Kodak's factories world wide, and was probably used as a promotional film for the general public as well.

How to Be Well Groomed (1949)

This film details the grooming rituals of brother "Don" and sister "Sue". Both are incredibly neat; in fact, grooming seems to occupy their entire day, while their evenings are spent ironing outfits and polishing shoes. The work load is so heavy it requires two narrators! Features some excellent voice over lines, including: "Sue avoids red nail polish since it would call attention to her stubby hands." "Mother too keeps up a good appearance even around the house, for that keeps up her spirits." "Their good grooming habits help them in friendships and business. For your success depends a great deal on how you look." Producer: Coronet Instructional Films

"Semper Ride" - Extended Trailer

A fast paced, action packed film containing an overall responsible riding theme, instructional material, and mentoring from some of the motorcycle industrys most talented riders. In 2008, 25 Marines were killed in motorcycle accidents. The majority of these Marines were younger and had little experience on the bikes they were riding. The film was developed to supplement and enhance the Marine Corps motorcycle training program with a thrilling instructional film intended to create excitement and simultaneously give each viewer an appreciation of the risks involved in motorcycling. It will also provide each viewer with the steps and techniques involved in becoming a more skilled and safer rider. Semper Ride explores and educates riders on a wide variety of motorcycle riding disciplines, from motocross to sport bikes, street bikes, and dual-sport machines. Different riding styles and terrains are reviewed in-depth with an emphasis on those who pursue riding motorcycles for sport and thrills; the high risk population. First-class instructors, riders, and consultants from the professional motorcycle industry explain what each bike is intended to do, and how to improve riding skills. The tone of the film is a peer-to-peer, rider-to-rider style of instruction in an effort to break away from the traditionally dry instructional style often associated with training videos. The latest hi-definition technology was used in the production of the film to capture the riders in some of ...

How To Get the Film Look on DSLR Video

www.learningdslrvideo.com These techniques I am about to explain to you are based on my observations on how my videos require more work to match that of what I see on the big screen in the move theater. 1. Set your camera to 24fps. To be honest this is probably provides the smallest benefit of all the items I am going to tell you about. Most people can not tell the difference from 24 to 30 fps, this happens more on a sub-conscience level. The main reason I shoot at 24fps is not the look, it is because it creates smaller file sizes for me to edit with. 2. Shoot with a shadow depth of field (large sensor) This can be done with DSLR with large sensors like the 5D T2i and the 60D. This I think is the item that provides the most benefit of all the items I have. Not every shoot has to be this way, but just watch and film or good TV show and you will see super shallow depth of field used over and over. 3. aspect ratio, this is the second most important. Normal people notice this right away when their TV is letter boxed once the movie starts. This is a dead giveaway that this is a film. 4. Shoot in 720p or higher, to match film you are going to need all the resolution you can get. However many will not notice that much difference between 720 and 1080. 5. Use a tripod, a monopod, use a rig on your shoulder, most important keep it steady unless shakiness adds to your story. 6. Use a slider or a dolly at least a few times to reveal something 7. use a gib, most films use an ...

Dangerous Playground - Southern Pacific RailRoad 1950's - Educational Safety Film about Trains

This is an educational safety film released by the Southern Pacific Railroad in the 1950's showing the dangers that face unsuspecting children when they use the railroad property as a playground. Also shows other unacceptable behavious such as throwing rocks at trains or putting objects on the tracks, and their potential consequences including train derailment or personal injury. From a rail forum on "Altamont Press" I've learnt the sequence with the boy crossing the trestle was filmed on the NWP's Tiburon Branch (trestle over "Blackie's Pasture.") and the scenes of the PA with the kids and the engineer were filmed at SP's East Oakland yard. From en.wikipedia.org The Southern Pacific Transportation Company (reporting mark SP), earlier Southern Pacific Railroad (1865--1885) and Southern Pacific Company (1885--1969), and usually simply called the Southern Pacific or (from the railroad's initials) Espee, was an American railroad. The railroad was founded as a land holding company in 1865, later acquiring the Central Pacific Railroad by lease. By 1900, the Southern Pacific Company had grown into a major railroad system which incorporated many smaller companies, such as the Texas and New Orleans Railroad and Morgan's Louisiana and Texas Railroad, and which extended from New Orleans through Texas to El Paso, across New Mexico and through Tucson, to Los Angeles, throughout most of California including San Francisco and Sacramento; it also included the Central Pacific Railroad ...

The Fun of Being Thoughtful (1950)

"Everywhere you go, people talk about thoughtfulness." With this premise in mind, we are wisked into the life of "Jane Proctor," a happy teen who is slavishly devoted to her "fine, thoughtful family." While uttering lines such as "It'd be the thoughtful thing to do," and "That's what makes thoughtfulness worthwhile!" Jane tidies her room, fixes dinner for the family, and fixes her geeky brother Eddie up with a date. In the end, Jane's thoughtfulness pays off ("A new dress!!!") and we leave the Proctor family basking in the sunshine of family togetherness. The script for this film flies in several directions at once, which makes it fun but a little hard to follow. Producer: Coronet Instructional Films

How Quiet Helps at School (1953)

Social guidance film for young children suggesting that they take their noise out to the playground. This film starts off dull, but then it gets pretty strange. First, we're taken on a tour of a typical, boisterous grade school classroom ("You couldn't be proud to be part of such a noisy room, could you?" asks the narrator), and then we're taken into the classroom of "Miss Bradley" -- a place where all sound has apparently been banished. Miss Bradley tells us that keeping a classroom this quiet is good because it's "like an office," and that "knowing when to be quiet is a part of growing up." A cheerful geek named "Bobby" then gives several demonstrations of quiet behavior, and the narrator ends the film by asking, "This is a good room, isn't it?" Pretty weird stuff; lots of dead air. Watch for the scenes displaying the strange, tabletop "model farm." Producer: Coronet Instructional Films

Control Your Emotions (1950) Part 1

This bizarre film is hosted by an unnamed "psychologist." While spouting Pavlovian claptrap such as "Fear is triggered by loud noises" and "Your emotions can be your own greatest enemy," he repeatedly interrupts the story of "Jeff," the film's protagonist. Jeff -- who looks like a heroin addict -- has a lot of trouble controlling his emotions, and the psychologist is always ready to pop in with statements such as "If this kind of behavior is repeated often, it might lead to a permanently warped personality." Control Your Emotions doubles as a lesson in behaviorist psychology and an admonition to postwar American children. "Before man learned how to control fire and put it to work, it was man's greatest enemy. In much the same way, your emotions can be your own greatest enemy." Similar messages percolate throughout the social guidance films of the 1940s and 1950s (see, for example, A Date With Your Family, where the narrator intones, "Pleasant, unemotional conversation helps the digestion"). The links between the effort to manage and regulate outbursts of feeling and the national offensive to smooth out adolescent behavioral excesses often seem obscure. There is no doubt, however, that the architects of Fifties consensus (psychologists, educators, the judiciary, sociologists and advertisers) wished to discourage "unproductive" and negativistic behavior. "Severe emotional stress," says the narrator of this film, "often decreases efficiency." What seems clearest is that for ...

"Stop that Tank!" Canada (ca.1942) 2/3

3 videos running time 00:21:00 The Boys anti-tank rifle was sometimes referred to as "Charlie the Bastard" due to its recoil. A comic, arrogant Hitler is shown riding a tank, confidently ridiculing his adversaries, but Canadian soldiers, using anti-tank rifles, firing from trees, haystacks, barnyards, and even a latrine, rout the Nazi tank corps and literally blow Hitler to Hell. He tumbles into the fiery inferno and begins spouting German gibberish to a comic devil, who informs the audience- "Adolph says it isn't fair. He's being oppressed. He says it's an outrage. Der Fuehrer says against your anti-tank rifles, he simply can't win." The rest of the film is a detailed animated instructional film on the care and firing of the rifles. The Rifle, Anti-Tank, .55in, Boys commonly known as the "Boys (or, often and incorrectly,"Boyes") Anti-tank Rifle" was a British anti-tank rifle. There were two main types, an early model (MK I) which had a circular muzzle brake and T shaped bipod, and a later model (Mk II) that had a square muzzle brake and a V shaped bipod. There were also different cartridges, with a later one offering better penetration. He eponymous creator of this firearm was Captain Boys (the Assistant Superintendent of Design) who was a member of the British Small Arms Committee and a designer at the Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield. It was initially called Stanchion but was renamed after HC Boys as a mark of respect when he died a few days before the rifle was ...

Shy Guy (1947) Part 1 of 2

Phil (played by Dick York) is the son of an apparently single father who seems recently to have undergone corporate relocation, and things are very different for Phil. He has a problem "fitting in." Everything from the nature of the kids in the new town ("different") to what they wear ("not jackets like me, but a regular sweater") sets Phil apart. Armed only with confusing advice from his father, Phil has to reorganize his behavior and make a new home for himself. Shy Guy marks a kind of turning point in postwar history. When Mr. Norton advises Phil to "look around him" and see what the other kids are wearing and how they behave, he's conceding parental authority to the "gang" and, ultimately, helping to legitimize the formation of a distinct youth culture that rests on group identity and validation rather than the authority of elders. Such a youth culture probably has its roots in the wartime autonomy that teens experienced, but here the adults are okaying it. This change, of course, is one of the key social currents in postwar America. This is Dick York at his dorkiest. Dick's father is especially strange in this classic. Shy Guy is the film that established Coronet as THE social guidance filmmaker. Required viewing. Producer: Coronet Instructional Films
