Ray played The Punisher in Punisher: War Zone (2008) and Jonathan directed The Punisher (2004). - Tommy Reid noted that getting mobster Danny Greene's story on film took 12 years. Reid, a native of New Jersey, says he learned about Greene while a student at Ohio State University. Reid went on to buy the options to the book by Rick Porrello titled "To Kill the Irishman: The War That Crippled the Mafia," on which the film is based. - The production temporarily re-opened the retired Tiger Stadium known as Navin Field for approximately one week. The stadium originally opened in 1912 and closed 87 years later when the Detroit Tigers departed for their new facility. The stadium was then demolished after the production completed filming. Over the summer of 1976, thirty-six bombs were detonated in the heart of Cleveland as a turf war raged between Irish mobster Danny Greene (Ray Stevenson) and the Italian mafia. After turning the tables on loan shark Shondor Birns (Christopher Walken) and joining forces with gangster John Nardi (Vincent D'Onofrio), Greene cuts his ties to the Mafia, and begins moving in on their turf. Surviving countless assassination attempts and killing off anyone who goes after him, Danny Greene's infamous invincibility and notorious fearlessness eventually led to the collapse of mafia syndicates across the US and also earned him the status of the man the mob couldn't kill. The Southern Irishman with 5029 Nunney Castle
In what has been reputed to be the last steam working to Fishguard, 5029 hauls The Southern Irishman from Newport to Carmarthen along the South Wales Main Line, and return from Fishguard Harbour to Cardiff. For this run the Castle wore the Red Dragon headboard, and 175 number codes on the return working. This was to be the first film to be made and filmed entirely in Wales by me, this is why I decided to add credit captions to the bottom of the screen of locations. South Wales also gave me the opportunity to capture its ideallic and unique look as never done so before. The weather became the major highlight for the day. In the begining starting off at Llanharan 5029 makes up time having left Cardiff 10 mins early as she is seen attacking Llanharan in fine style hauling 8 coaches. After an hour long car journey, we catch the Castle along the breezy but scenic stretches at Kidwelly. On the return working and with a Class 47 diesel at the rear of the train, Nunney Castle races through the authentic railway infrastructure at Ferryside and runs along the coastal bends to St Ishmael. The final scene catches the last few miles of the journey to Cardiff as the Castle roars up through Pyle. With special thanks to Bob Masterman of whom I met during the day and giving me tips and advice on locations.
