Judo: Isao Okano O Soto Gari

Okano's unique o-soto-gari is an example of a pure technique throw. Amazing. These few luck western Judoka who got the chance to train with Okano are mostly unidentified but thanks to contributors we're getting to name a few: Roger Cadière: The big guy by the end of the Video is a 6th degree black-belt professor of self-defense traditional ju-jutsu and also a Judo instructor for Judo Sport Rochelais (location: Cacaud 17000 La Rochelle).

Genji Monogatari Symphony - Isao Tomita - 1

The Tale of Genji (源氏物語Genji Monogatari?) is a classic work of Japanese literature attributed to the Japanese noblewoman Murasaki Shikibu in the early eleventh century, around the peak of the Heian Period. It is sometimes called the world's first novel, the first modern novel, the first romance novel, or the first novel to still be considered a classic. This issue is a matter of debate. See Stature below. The first partial translation of Genji Monogatari into English was by Suematsu Kencho. A free translation of all but one chapter was produced by Arthur Waley. Edward Seidensticker made the first complete translation into English, using a more literal method than Waley. The most recent English translation, by Royall Tyler (2001), also tries to be faithful to the original text. Diet member Marutei Tsurunen has also made a translation in Finnish. Introduction The Genji, as the work is commonly called by aficionados, was written for the women of the aristocracy (the yokibito) and has many elements found in a modern novel: a central character and a very large number of major and minor characters, well-developed characterization of all the major players, a sequence of events happening over a period of time covering the central character's lifetime and beyond. The work does not make use of a plot; instead, much as in real life, events just happen and characters evolve simply by growing older. One remarkable feature of the Genji, and of Murasaki's skill, is its internal ...
Isao Tomita - A Night on Bare Mountain

I was surprised to see that this one has not been uploaded to Youtube yet. I see most of Isao Tomita's music but remarkably absent was A Night on Bare Mountain from the Firebird album in 1975 or '76. This is probably because the song is 13 minutes long and Youtube usually limits people to 10. A while back I had re-mastered this one and cut it down to 10 minutes due to an accessively drawn out last 3 minutes. So, it fits here on Youtube like this. Sorry for the hard core Tomita fans who want those last 3 minutes. And my apologies as well for the major hiccup at 2:54. I have no idea why that's there. Something happened while transcoding onto Youtube. That's not on the copy I uploaded. But DEFINATELY beam this to your TV or major sound system wherever it is in your house or computer or headphones and crank it up! I rendered this with a very high audio bitrate and it seems to have come through really well on audio. The video capture is the iTunes visualizer which seems to have been made for this kind of music. Anyone curious, that was a 10 minute, 5.5 gigabyte FRAPS HD capture. This of course is a highly unusual rendition of Night on Bare Mountain or Night on Bald Mountain by Mussorsky. You likely remember this piece from Fantasia by Disney. Here it is performed by Isao Tomita way back in the 70's with absolutely no digital interface. Amazing when you listen to it. He was using what's called a MOOG synthesizer which was completely analog, full of tubes! Then rendered onto ...

"He entered the 1964 Summer Olympics while studying at Chuo University's law school, and won the gold medal in the middleweight division. He won another gold medal at the World Judo Championships in 1965, becoming the champion of his division at only 21 years of age. He also won the Open weight class division of the All-Japan Judo Championships in 1967 and 1969, and placed second in the competition in 1968. He remains the lightest ever competitor to win the Open weight class of the All-Japan Championships, as he weighed around 80 kg throughout his career. He suddenly retired from competitive judo at only 25 years of age, and founded the Shoki Juku (currently the Ryutsu Keizai University's judo team) in 1970, where he instructed future Olympic gold medalist Kazuhiro Ninomiya. He also served as a coach for the Japanese Olympic judo team during the 1976 Summer Olympics. He later worked as a judo instructor at Keio University from 1989-1998, and the University of Tokyo from 1989-2000. He is currently an instructor and professor at Ryutsu Keizai University." - Wikipedia

Stravinsky The Rite of Spring - Introduction - Isao Tomita style

By Paul Shillito www.classitronic.net Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring - Introduction. Done in my Classitronic style, Classitronic is what I call electronic classical music with my style being heavily influenced by Isao Tomita. This is the first part of the classic Stravinsky ballet The Rite of Spring which caused a near riot when it was premiered in Paris on May 29th 1913. The rest of this work is to follow, so watch this space :-) Soft syths used on this included the Arturia Minimoog V2, Arturia Moog Modular, Arturia Jupiter 8V, Arturia Yamaha CS80V and soundtoys effects. The next parts are being done on an analogue modular system so it should sound even better than the virtual synths used so far.
