www.OnlineChessLessons.net - ("Show More" for more info ...) Facebook www.facebook.com Twitter: www.twitter.com Analysis by NM Will Stewart. Continuing Coverage of the unique Super Tournament: Amber 2011, presenting a Round 8 Rapid Game between Vassily Ivanchuk (of Ukraine) vs Boris Gelfand (of Israel). The opening was not particularly interesting in this game, as a standard Petroff was played with an early c4 by white to open up the position. Ivanchuk managed to impressively manipulate the resulting complications into a bishops of opposite color, attacking position for white. Gelfand lost his way, grabbing an inconsequential pawn on a3 while allowing a devastating mating attack on his king, initiated by an excellent bishop sacrifice by Ivanchuk in time-trouble. Great game by Ivanchuk, again demonstrating his exceptional resourcefulness and ice-cold nerves under time pressure. Amber is well-known because of it's unique format - half of the tournament is Blindfold Chess, and the other half is Rapid Chess (25 min, 30 sec increment). ***PGN, for your convenience *** [Event "Amber 2011"] [Site "Monte Negro"] [Date "2011.03.20"] [Round "8"] [White "Ivanchuk(R)"] [Black "GM_Gelfand(R)"] [Result "*"] [Opening "Petrov: classical attack, Jaenisch variation"] [ECO "C42"] [NIC "RG.06"] [Time "09:09:49"] [TimeControl "1500+10"] 1. e4 e5 2.
