Yankee Doodle (Lyrics)

Various European countries claim the original of the tune we know as Yankee Doodle, and it was the British who brought the tune to America during the French and Indian Wars. The opening words of the song refer to the fact that when Oliver Cromwell rode horseback into Oxford in 1653 he wore a hat decorated with a single feather fastened by an elaborate knot --- an Italian decoration called a "macaroni." The British troops used the song and the term sarcastically, to ridicule the makeshift appearance of the dress of American Colonial troops. When the Revolution began, the Americans adopted the song as a rallying tune, and it was played by fifers and drummers in every camp and battle. At the British surrender at Yorktown on Oct. 19, 1781, the American army band played Yankee Doodle to celebrate the American victory.

Financial Derivatives: What are They? - Housing Bubble Collapse - Unregulated Insurance

Was the lack of regulation on financial derivatives the main cause of our economic collapse? Or was it the easy money that Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac were giving out for home mortgages like there was no tomorrow? I would say that it was both, but there were other factors involved as well. The way I see it is that there was overregulation on one hand, Fanny and Freddie, while on the other hand there was under regulation when it came to these derivatives. I believe that this economic crisis we find ourselves in can be laid squarely on the shoulders of our federal government. They were the ones, along with the Feds, who made regulations that provided easy money for the taking, which was the cause of the housing bubble, which would have to collapse eventually, that is why they call it a bubble, because it is unsustainable. I believe it's good that they are now proposing regulations on these insane casino style derivatives that have no economic value for our country. I just hope that congress does not do what it is famous for, which is to overreact to a problem, and in the process, make it worse. jbranstetter04

Americans Fear Their Government

If you think the Bush Administration was bad, you haven't seen anything yet. The Obama Administration will be something that every freedom loving American will learn to detest. This is not something that I can prove, but it is something that will eventually be realized by the average rational American over time. Obama is a threat to our American way of life, and should be treated as such. Just checkout his associations, I would not be associated with someone who is associated with someone who is associated with the kind of people that Obama is associated with, is that clear enough. This is the future of our country that we are talking about, and people are willing to give the keys to it to someone like Obama? Well all that I can say is that we will reap what we have sewn.

Second Amendment; A Political Right; Historic Context; Not about Hunting! - Newt Gingrich

The Second Amendment is not about hunting; it is a political right. Historic context of the Amendment makes it very clear as to why some thought it necessary to write it into our federal constitution; they wanted it protected, and for good reason. When the British Empire made its first attempt at quelling our first outburst of liberty, they failed. Why did they fail? It was because we were armed, and may I say, unlike any other people in the world at the time. The British did not expect us to be so uppity and free spirited. And because of us being armed, we finally, through great difficulty and much dedication of our leaders and patriotic soldiers, gained our independence. So that is why the Second Amendment was added to our constitution; that we would always remain a free people beholden to no government for our God given liberties. jbranstetter04

Greek Default Implications: Greece's debt and austerity; tax collecting; German role

The Greek Bank Debt crisis is precarious for the world's financial health. Are the Greek people 100% responsible for what has happened? No they are not. They are only about 95% responsible, which is no different than the Americans being responsible for what is happening in their own country. We need to stop blaming the boogieman greedy banks for everything. No one held a gun to your head to take out another credit card, or to buy a nicer house than you could afford. And in the same respect no one forced the Greek people to vote in politicians that give out entitlements without collecting the taxes to pay for them. Now it is time to pay the piper, in Greece as well as in America. The fairytale life is over; it's time to get back to work. There is no free lunch; we are the ones who in the end pay for everything. Get ready to live like your Grandparents used to live, which when you think about it, was not that bad. Work hard, save your money, and only buy what you really need. And to that I would add, first be grateful for what you have, and then you might get what you want. jbranstetter04

Bush's Response to 9/11: Afghanistan small footprint vs large to capture Osama bin Laden Pt 3

Liberal lies debunked concerning the Bush Administration's 9-11 terrorist attack response. During the presidential campaign Obama used to always say that Bush, as if he were running against him, had taken his eye off of the ball, and that is why we had not captured or killed Osama yet. And then later on, after the election, but before becoming President, Obama was criticized for paying too much attention to a certain issue, (I forget which one), and not paying enough attention to another. And his response was that he could focus on more than one thing at a time; that he could walk and chew gum at the same time. So what does this tell us about Obama? I think that it tells us that he is just a typical politician at best and a deceiver at worst. jbranstetter04

Debating Independence; Second Continental Congress: Declaration of Independence

To declare independence from Great Britain or not was the question, but first they had to decide whether they would even debate it. For all intents and purposes they were already at war, and declaring independence was only a formality. But to not declare would mean the slow death of their cause—that every man can make himself. Would these men risk it all for liberty? Would they, as Jefferson would later write, pledge their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor? Or would they waffle and debate as General Washington fought the British with his ragtag army hoping against all odds to secure a victory against the most powerful empire in the world? In the end they did the right thing, they voted to declare us an independent nation. With that one vote they set in motion the betterment of mankind, for with the rise of the American tide of liberty, the liberty of all the world would rise as well. Without what these men started back then, the world would be a much darker place today. jbranstetter04

Palestinian Refugee "Crisis" — Right of Return; Israel's viewpoint

Where should the Palestinian refugees go? Who is responsible for them? Is it Israel? Or is it the Arab states? In 1950 the refuges were numbered at 711000. Today they number 4.7 million. So I ask once again, where should they go? After and during the wars Israel has absorbed all of the Jewish refugees purged from Arab states, so why do the Arab states not do the same with the Palestinian refugees? The answer is because they want to destroy Israel, then after Israel is destroyed and the nuclear radiation subsides, the refugees will "return" to "their" homeland, which has always been the plan of the Arab states. Do they really expect Israel after all of these decades and generations of Palestinians being born, do they expect little Israel to absorb them and still remain a Jewish state, of course not. Is it any wonder that a settlement cannot be found? Although Israel is always willing to talk and to give in on issues, the Arabs only have one thing on their minds, and that is the destruction of Israel. How do you negotiate with people like that? Armed 11 year old Girl Defends Home from 3 armed Burglars: Armed Citizen

Alyssa Gutierrez bravely defended her home and her life with her Mom's rifle. She was not going to end up, if she could help it, another victim of criminal violence. She first tried to hide from the criminal intruders, but when they discovered her, she ran quickly to a bedroom and retrieved her Mom's little pink single shot bolt action 22 caliber rifle to defend her home and life. "My heart kept pounding and pounding" said brave little Alyssa. After she loaded the rifle she checked the bathroom and the living room to make sure that they were clear of the thugs. She then went to her Mothers closet with her loaded rifle in hand to call 9-11. "I was planning, if they came right next to me, I would shoot them," said Alyssa. Luckily, for the slime ball intruders, they had already made their getaway out the back door of the house. But as bad luck would have it for the degenerate's, an off duty police officer who was driving by saw them jumping the fence and arrested them on the spot. So all ended well, the bottom dwellers were taken away thanks to the bravery of Alyssa Gutierrez. The reason this story caught my attention is because earlier this year I bought my then 10 year old niece this very same rifle, except in black. And then the rest of the family and me went up to the mountains where I taught her how to shot it. Obama: "Fundamentally Transforming the United States of America" Long Version

Here is what Candidate Obama wanted for our country when he was running for President of the United States of America. He said that "we are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America." What he meant was what he said in the video, or was it? Or maybe he meant that he wanted to uproot our Republic and make it into something of his liking, something that would allow the "redistribution" of wealth like he promised during the election. Maybe he wants a country where those who produce supplement those who do not produce. Obama said on February 16, 2008; "Don't tell me that words don't matter." Are we to believe him? Do words really matter? Is "fundamentally transforming America" what he was talking about in this speech? Or is it something else that he wants to do to our country. Only you can decide that. You be the judge. Your judgment will be counted on Election Day 2012. jbranstetter04

Muslim Sedition on American Soil? Preaching Enmity for democracy; Killing US troops justified

American Muslim's committing treason? Should these radical Jihads be stopped by the US authorities on the grounds that they are inciting violence against the American people, military, and government? Just where is the line, and have they crossed it? That is the question. But a bigger question is whether or not the Constitution is a suicide pact. I would say that Franklin Roosevelt thought that it was not when he interned American citizens of Japanese descent. I would also say that President Lincoln thought that it was not when he suspended habeas corpus. Another question is just how much do you want the FBI etc, looking into the activities of law abiding Americans who are just frustrated with the way that their government is being run (not necessarily these guys). I'm just saying that if we crack down on the speech of these radical American Muslims, then how soon will it be before the government is cracking down on your perceived radical speech? These are some of the questions that you need to ask yourself before you jump on the ban-speech bandwagon. Here is what they said: "The Koran commands that you, disavow, and make hatred and enmity (hostility) between democracy, between nationalism, between secularism, and you see Obama as the enemy he really is. That you see the United States as the enemy it really is." Is this sedition? Are these people committing treason against this Nation? Dirty Harry's Enhanced Interrogation Techniques - Was it Torture? Or just good Police Work?

Clint Eastwood's style of getting information from a suspect was very effective in my opinion. Yes it may have gone against some of our laws, and quite possibly even our constitution, but they were effective nonetheless. When the life of a fourteen year old girl is a stake, then I would give the police officer a break, and in fact, if I were on his jury, I would vote to acquit him of all "torture" charges, its called jury nullification, and I would use it. If we cannot bend the rules to save the life of a good police officer who "tortured" a low life scum bag who should not even be breathing the same air as the rest of us, then there is something wrong with us. Just think of all of the money and misery that is saved when one of those dirt bags gets a bullet in the head from one of our finest. Think of the woman who will not be raped, the people who will not have there property stolen, etc. I would dare to say that one 75 cent bullet could save upwards of one million dollars easily, and most likely more than that. When I was first watching the movie I thought Officer Harry Callahan was just trying to stop the bleeding on the poor gentleman's leg by applying pressure to it with his foot, but apparently, according to his superiors, he was trying to extract information from the subject with the use of torture, who would have known? I guess one mans torture, is another mans kind jester towards a fellow human being. jbranstetter04

Debating Slavery Clause in the Declaration of Independence: Second Continental Congress

Would the cause of freedom go on for the Colonies without addressing freedom for the black slaves? Would some in the Continental Congress let the issue of slavery derail the fight for independence? In the end they would not, they would compromise on the issue letting it be sorted out in the future. Something very important is mentioned in this video, the fact that it was the British Empire that promoted and allowed the slave trade in the Colonies. They let it set its ugly roots into the colonies until it was nearly impossible to uproot. It would in the end take a civil war and the deaths of over 620000 Americans to purge slavery from our country. Those who call our nation hypocritical based on us retaining slavery after our revolution for freedom, are incorrect in their analysis. Without the compromise on slavery during this debate and in the debate concerning our new constitution, this nation would never have existed, and without this Nation, liberty would not exist throughout the world to the extent that is does today. We owe all of this to their ability to compromise and to let slavery stay in place until such time as it could be removed without destroying what would become the greatest force for liberty mankind has ever known; the United States of America. jbranstetter04

Dennis Miller - Defeatism in Iraq You are my Peeps"

Dennis Miller's opinion on Iraq just prior to the 2006 elections. "You are my peeps, and I'm here all the way until the results show"; a nuclear bomb goes off in Manhattan Island. Then we can all deal with the results of our inaction. We are one country, one people, an American people, our future is the same, God bless America.

Osama Bin Laden, Shortly After 9/11

Osama Bin Laden speaks about the September 11, 2001 attack on the USA. Usāmah bin Muḥammad bin `Awaḍ bin Lādin (Arabic: أسامة بن محمد بن عوض بن لادن‎; born 10 March 1957), most often mentioned as Osama bin Laden or Usama bin Laden, is an Islamic militant, and believed to be the founder of the Jihadist organization Al-Qaeda. He is a member of the prestigious and wealthy bin Laden family. In conjunction with several other Islamic militant leaders, bin Laden issued two fatawa—in 1996 and then again in 1998—that Muslims should kill civilians and military personnel from the United States and allied countries until they withdraw their military forces from Muslim countries and cease their support for the state of Israel's policies. He has been indicted in United States federal court for his alleged involvement in the 1998 US embassy bombings in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya, and is on the US Federal Bureau of Investigation's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. Although bin Laden has not been indicted for the September 11, 2001 attacks, he has been reported to have orally claimed responsibility for them, in a Conservative leaning British language newspaper and in videos released to the public. The attacks involved the hijacking of United Airlines Flight 93, United Airlines Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 11, American Airlines Flight 77, and the subsequent destruction of the World Trade Center in New York City, New York, and severe damage to The Pentagon in Arlington ...

Hail Columbia! with Lyrics; First American National Anthem - United States of America

After the French Revolution, conflict arose between France and England, and American relations with both countries became strained, because American leaders differed in their sympathies with these nations. As a result, France and the United States were on the verge of war in the spring of 1798. To try to unify the Nation, Joseph Hopkinson (son of Francis Hopkinson, composer and signer of the Declaration of Independence) wrote the words of Hail, Columbia! and set them to the tone of The President's March, said to have been composed by Philip Phile as Washington's inaugural march. The new song called for all Americans to support George Washington, who had been recalled from retirement by President John Adams to resume his position as Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy. The song did help to unify the Nation and avert war; and it was long regarded in Europe as our National Anthem. -From the Album Cover Hail Columbia, happy land! Hail, ye heroes, heav'n-born band, Who fought and bled in freedom's cause, Who fought and bled in freedom's cause, And when the storm of war was gone Enjoy'd the peace your valor won. Let independence be our boast, Ever mindful what it cost; Ever grateful for the prize, Let its altar reach the skies. Chorus Firm, united let us be, Rallying round our liberty, As a band of brothers joined, Peace and safety we shall find. Sound, sound the trump of fame, Let Washington's great name Ring through the world with loud applause, Ring through the world ...

Re: Did Reagan have Alzheimer's While in Office? As President; You Decide...

President Ronald Reagan deals with the press in late 1987. Is he showing signs of the disease that eventually killed him? Or is he doing better than you and I would do at a question and answer session like this? I for one think that he did just fine, and that his son's allegations are just a load of crap in order to create notoriety for himself and his book. jbranstetter04 Reagan's son falls short of his father Ron Reagan's claim - without substantiation - that his father, former President Ronald Reagan, had Alzheimer's disease while in office, exposes junior as being opportunistic and disingenuous ("Misreading Reagan," Wednesday, Commentary). It is obvious to most everyone that Ron didn't agree with his father's ideology and is making this false claim to sell his book just as Reagan's 100th birthday nears. Why else would he attempt to tarnish his father's great legacy? Ronald Reagan was known as the "Great Communicator" because he spoke from the heart and was a charismatic speaker and leader. Because of Reagan, the 1980s were a period of great prosperity for Americans, and America was looked upon as a tower of strength for good all around the world. It must be awfully difficult for Ron, as the son of Ronald Reagan, to stand in the shadow of such a giant of a man. By chipping away at his father's greatness, it seems he is desperately trying to make himself look a little larger - but he comes off much smaller. Lewis and Clark Explore the Louisiana Purchase - America's Manifest Destiny

America's Manifest Destiny started with our acquisition of the Louisiana Purchase which basically doubled the size of the United States with a single stroke of a pen. This was the beginning of our expansionism that in the end left us controlling the best land in North America, which when combined with our cunning and ingenuity, lead us to become the greatest country on earth. This old movie starring Charlton Heston and that other guy really tells it like it was. It even shows everyone saying the Lords Prayer over their fallen comrade, which shows us that yes, this country was founded as a Christian nation, and that those Christian values have made us the great country that we are today. I didn't notice any Muslims or Hindus in this movie, not that there's anything wrong with being one of them, it's just that this country was not created under the influence of those religions. Now back to America and our cunning and ingenuity. This, the greatest country ever, was built by hard working self-reliant Americans who fended for themselves and did not rely on their government for handouts. They built this country up to its greatness of today by working hard and inventing new ways to do things in a more productive way. Hard working American were, are, the backbone of this country, and without them we would be no better than the rest of the mediocre countries in the world. Now some will say that we stole this land from the American Indians, and to a certain extent that is right ...

River Fog in the Winter

Video of fog coming off of the river in the winter do to the temperature difference. I guess it is some form of evaporation. If you want to know what river it is, it is the one right out my back door. It does this fog thing about 10 or 20 times a year, and that is a guess because I don't get up early enough on the weekends to see it. Also, if it is an all around foggy day, then it might be doing it, but you cannot see it, because the fog is in the way. This all reminds me that in the global warming models they do not calculate into them the effect of cloud cover. This is what I have heard and read, but I am still not 100% sure that it is true, but if it is true, then their calculations could be way off. The reason is because as the oceans get warmer they evaporate more, and that evaporation could create more cloud cover on the earth which in return would block the sunlight, thereby cooling the earth. Now I'm no expert like Al Gore, but it only makes sense to me that this could be a big flaw in their studies and that this global warming think might not be something to worry about. At least we should not destroy our economy over it. jbranstetter04
