Kwikraft is a New Zealand hull designed and built by Tony Ward, 19 to 21 foot tunnel. There also is at least one Doug Riddle hull still racing and there are several unique one-offs, the two built by River Wild are good examples. One is a 21 foot B-class tunnel and the other is an 18 foot FX class tunnel. Bottoms are anywhere from .160 to 3/16ths. Sometimes AR plating is used as an extra layer of protection. Sides are generally .090, decks can be even less than that. Saving weight is very important and the location of the weight in the boat is even more important. Most use spoons, an add on piece in front of the intake. Hulls are generally tunnels although v-hulls have done well in FX class, and River Wild has built two super light "semi-wing in ground effect" hulls that are also quite good. The FX version did especially good in 2001. I believe the Eagle 19 foot Sport step-tech will become a big force in FX class in the next few years. Since these boats are raced through whitewater interspersed with rocks and logs, they need to have fairly precise handling characteristics compared to other types of race boats. They also need to be very predictable. Bad habits and quirks can put you up in the rocks or worse. The pumps are obvously highly modified, but based on Berkeley, Legend, Aggressor or American Turbine production pumps <b>...</b>

www.ravenracingvideo.com Jet Boat Racing the Salmon River in Riggins Idaho. The music is by Saints of Silence. Every third weekend in April race boats hit the Salmon River. This race event has been going on now for over 25 years. This was the first race of the 2009 jet boat racing season. Racers traveled as far away as Canada, Oregon, Washington, and California. The town of Riggins Idaho hosted a number of events that weekend. The had the annual BBQ, Toughman competition where anyone could get into the ring, put on a pair of boxing gloves and see who was the last person standing. The boats are made entirely out of aluminum. The engines range in horsepower from 360 horsepower to a whopping 600-800 horsepower. There speeds range from mid 80s to over 100+ mph. The safety features on these boats include 5 point racing harnesses, rollbars that are made out of chromoly steel, Some boats even use halon extinguishers, The drivers arrive on Friday to preview the rivers and look for the fastest race lines possible. They are not allowed to do this in their race boats though. The racers must use a personal pleasure boat or get a ride in a preview boat to run the course. Drivers must also try to remember where those fastest race lines were come Saturday. When the races get under way these jet boat racers must run a total of six legsthrough the river course. Three of those legs are down-stream and three are ran upstream. The racers do not race each other rather they are racing a clock <b>...</b>

This is a $300 97 tighr shark jet ski motor and a $25 12' aluminum boat. it probably did about 40mph in about 2 seconds. I built it in one weekend. Highway 95 Idaho's only north to south highway was temporaily closed to allow a tow truck to lower cables from off the bridge. It took 2 boats,1 Tow Truck, and 12 men to get the boat back onto the trailer safely. During the second leg of the Idaho Salmon Cup #16 (Wocket) did a barrel roll in some of the worst whitewater possible on the race course,the rapid is called TIME ZONE.
