WATCH IN HD FOR BEST AUDIO/VIDEO QUALITY. This is a video of my modded Vox AC4TV w/1x12 Cab. I have made the cab into an open back, and swapped the tubes from the stock Sovteks to a JJ EL84 and 12at7. It is somewhat hard to hear the difference in the recording, but the JJ's give so much more headroom and clarity to this amp. After these simple mods, I have fell in love with this little amp that now has big tone! The audio captured is COMPLETELY DRY. I tracked the samples into protools through my digi 003 using a Cascade Fat Head II Ribbon. Didn't move the mic or the knobs on the amp. Just changed between 1 and 4 Watts and then swapped the tubes and did the same, never moving the microphone. I tried to make it as accurate as I could. This is a demo of my blues tone, to try to convince people you dont need boutique pedals and loads of cash to get a decent sound. My amp is crate gt65, with a celestion vintage 30 speaker. I then played through a dod fx84 compressor to bring an extra dimensional and clarity to my sound. That goes into a digitech bad monkey, and then into an art tube preamp with jj tube. The guitar was a 03 mexican stratocaster with dimarzio virtual vintage pickups, area 61 in the bridge, and area 58 in mid and neck. Used a lil bit of the amps reverb, and some delay from my digitech digidelay Hope this helps someone, and sry for the cheesy vid, i just wanted as pure of a sound as i could get, so i mic'd it vs. using a video camera! Marshall MA50H First half = Shuangang Second half = JJ in V2 (about 19:20) Short comparison 0:35 vs 22:04 . Same Amp settings, same guitar, same mic position, same everything, just different tube in V2. This video has a lot of volume changes. The basic setup is I play a bit on the OD channel, volume of 5 (pretty loud) then bring down the volume using a pedal in the fx loop (digitech RP set to do nothing but adjust volume). This is better than using the channel volume because of the bright cap / fizz issue. For the loud parts, the mic positions were the same (desk, H2 level with the top of the cab, about 8 feet from the cab) This was the second take, the first one had a mic issue, so the guitar gets slightly out of tune in the first half, and is later corrected. I wasn't aware of it until I listened to the playback. Amp is on OD channel, sometimes on boost, Gain on 4, crunch balance max, Presence like 3 to start, resonance like 5 to start, treble like 7, mids like 4, bass like 6. As it says in the video, this is the EQ I've been using with the JJ tube - if I was EQing for the Chinese one, I want to dial back the treble a bit, keep the presence up, and add a little bass. On the second half (JJ tube) (about 19:20 in) I start out with the clean channel. it's set to 3 o'clock (volume reduced via fx loop), and I use an EQ pedal to boost it, then II do the regular loud OD test, then a more realistic / bearable level test. The JJ might be a better tone for metal or something, but <b>...</b>

MA50H thru M412 cab. Set to a sort of bassy, mid scoop level on the eq, but still dark and bright at the same time, to my ear. I will say I have a JJ tube in V2 that makes the OD channel darker and less fizzy, but less gain. The boosted channel is a lot less fizzy than with the stock Chinese tube. Cleans @ about 3:56 Stepped on the boost at 4:27. Pretty sure this is Bill Lawrence p/u for the most part on a super strat type guitar (telling my memory and the difficulty playing the bit on the upper register).
