And They Took Me Away
My submission for the 2009 Nikon Festival, which sadly did not make the cut for the top 50 contenders. It's a story that I don't tell very often anymore. Shot almost entirely over the span of two hectic days and one long and strange night on a 3-month-old 5D mark II with a dying sensor (watch for dead pixels! They look red!). Edited in Final Cut Pro by my sister, Connie Yen. Strobist info: some scenes shot with a cheap clamp light, a 60-watt incandescent bulb, a 28x22" white foam core / bounce board, and a 300-watt UPS that beeped every 33 seconds and lasted less than 50 minutes per charge. Bootstraps and no budget. *shrug* Music used with permission: Erla's Waltz was written, arranged, recorded, mixed, and mastered in a single day by the unbelievably talented Ólafur Arnalds. This short film, though it ain't pretty, is dedicated to everyone that went through Tranquility Bay, Jamaica. For those who are gone, may your souls rest in peace. For those who are missing, please get in touch. And for those who are still with us, I hope evry'ting is irie ;) I'm planning on expanding on the film, if I ever get the budget to do so. Open to suggestions, comments, criticisms, and reminiscing. Hit me up!
