Bus Attendant Vs. Student

Hattie Yvonne Branch told police that a 14-year-old boy riding her bus would regularly shout profanity at her, threaten to break her jaw and gesture with his elbow as if to strike her. The 70-year-old Polk school bus attendant said her job was to "keep the peace on the bus," and the boy would bully her on a daily basis, according to a transcript. "I don't have any problem with nobody but him," she said. On June 2, police say Branch went into a rage and beat the boy — pulling his hair, hitting him and biting his back twice. Prosecutors recently released recorded surveillance footage on the bus showing the encounter between Branch and the boy. The bus was parked and loading up with passengers. Investigative reports say the 14-year-old boy was horsing around and tossed a 5-year-old boy over a bus seat. The 5-year-old boy's feet accidentally struck Branch, reports state. Branch told police she thought the 14-year-old boy intended for the younger boy's feet to hit her, and she began to defend herself when it appeared to her that the boy had his "deuces up." She said she recalled biting the boy's back but didn't remember putting him in a "full nelson" wrestling hold. The bus' driver, Charlene Wimes, can be heard on the video yelling for Branch to stop and let the boy go, "I hate it's happened," Branch told police. "I really do ... But he had set fear in me, 'cause he was always threatening me and every time he passed by me he tried to hit me in the face. And walk off and laugh ...

Cop Rescues Dazed Deer By Carrying It Off The Road

A dazed deer's life was saved by a Huron County sheriff's deputy. Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson reports a car crashed into a deer Friday night on Hellems Road in Dwight Township. Fortunately, no one was injured. However, the doe was so shocked by the incident that it remained frozen in the middle of the road for at least 25 minutes after the crash. When Deputy Ryan Swartz arrived at the scene, he first thought the animal was a decoy. However, he soon realized that it alive. In an attempt to avoid another crash, he made a decision on how to get the deer off the roadway. Sheriff Hanson says while he doesn't recommend just anyone approaching an animal, Deputy Swartz is well trained and has much experience in handing deer. So, the deputy decided to walk to the deer and carry it off the road instead of shooting the deer.Fortunately, Deputy Swartz was safely able to move the deer, and the deer regained the ability to trot off into the field.

Handcuffed Man Escapes From Police Car

An in-cruiser camera captured a suspect in handcuffs wriggle free of them, unlock the car, and flee from police. In the video, Quincy Alexander, 26, managed to slip out of his handcuffs almost immediately, but he appears to hesitate -- looking around and perhaps weighing his options -- before finally escaping from the cruiser, presumably through a window. The officer's reaction was not captured on film, but he checked on Alexander twice prior to the quiet exit, according to The Detroit Free Press. After a three-hour manhunt by four departments and two K-9s, Alexander was found hiding in a swampy area. Roughly a month after the July incident, West Bloomfield Township Chief Michael Patton issued the officer a three-day suspension, but the punishment was reduced to a written reprimand on Tuesday. Alexander pleaded guilty to heroin possession and obstructing a police officer.

Cop Busted Doing 120 MPH On Way To 2nd Job

A Miami cop who found himself cuffed after facing a state trooper's gun at the end of a 120 mph chase said he was late for his second job, authorities said. Florida Highway Patrol Trooper DJ Watts had her gun drawn when she arrested Fausto Lopez, 35, Oct. 11 following a 7-minute chase on the Florida Turnpike in Broward County, The Miami Herald reported Saturday. The trooper said the Miami squad car drew her attention because it was switching lanes lanes dangerously, and the driver then failed to respond to her patrol car's flashing lights and siren. Lopez, who the Herald said couldn't be reached for comment, finally stopped his car near Hollywood. Watts ordered Lopez out of the vehicle at gunpoint, handcuffed him and detained him. Lopez allegedly told the trooper he was driving fast because he was late for his off-duty job, the Herald said. The Miami officer, charged with reckless driving, is still on the job because, Cmdr. Delrish Moss told the Herald, "at this point it's a traffic offense."

ATM Theft Fail

The Davis Police Department has released surveillance video of a brazen break-in at a Target store early Sunday morning. The video shows two men driving a Dodge truck into and through the store on 2nd Street. The video shows the truck crashing through two sets of glass doors. According to police, the men were after the store's ATM. The men and the truck were inside the store for about three minutes. In the video, it appears the men are attaching a cable to the ATM. They made several attempts to pull the machine out of the store but their cable ended up snapping. The men then dashed out, leaving the full-size truck inside the Target. You cannot see the would-be thieves faces and their hands are covered, but Davis police are hoping someone saw the two burglars with the truck prior to the break-in. Davis police said Target put the damage to the store and merchandize at $120000. Several cameras caught images of the crime, now police hope the public can help them catch the actual criminals.

Tornado Demolishes Truck In Oklahoma

The twister spiraled on the ground and slammed into a semi truck, ripping it apart on Interstate 40 in Oklahoma. Amazingly, the driver, Jeremiah Morrison, survived and only has minor injuries. He says he knew about the tornado warning and had pulled over on the side of the freeway, but was still in the truck. "As it came toward me, I saw it out in the distance, so I pulled my truck over. I was getting ready to get in the ditch, because that's what I've always been taught to do," said Morrison. "I kinda started to get out, looked up, looked like the tornado kind of disappeared. So, I got back in the truck. Tried to get my seat belt buckled, and about that time, I felt the driver side of the truck come off the ground. I closed my eyes. Put my arms over my face and bounced around in the cab a little bit. Not real sure if I blacked out. I know that I was laying on the ground. Picked myself up, looked over. The truck was on its wheels. I ran around to see -- I guess kind of sort of assess the damage."

Dashcam Video Released In Texas Fire

The Bastrop County Sheriff's Department has released hours of footage from dozens of patrol units sent out during the Labor Day wildfires. It shows how far deputies were willing to go do help. "We did everything that we could physically do to try and protect people, and warn them, and get them out of an area," Sheriff Terry Pickering said. Deputies risked their lives for days trying to save homes and lives. In all, nearly 1600 homes were destroyed. Two lives were lost. There might have been more had deputies not been so persistent with evacuations. Susanne Scoggins of Tahitian Village said it took multiple reminders to convince her to leave. "We probably had another five deputies and volunteers and we said, 'Okay, this is serious,'" Scoggins said. Sheriff's deputies will continue to review the audio and video in the coming months. They will look at what worked and what they could have done differently. "Unfortunately, the fire just moved so fast that we couldn't get everywhere," Sheriff Pickering said.
