Taken from the HBO's movie "Rome", i think this clip best shows the violence and the anger linked to what is still considered the most tremendous murder of all times. The latin words are taken from "De Vita Caesarum" (The Lives of the Caesars), written by Suetonius in 110 AD. Here is the whole extract: LXXXII. Confederate soldier Julius Howell talking about his capture and imprisonment at the Union prison camp at Point Lookout, Md. Howell was born in 1846 near the Holy Neck section of Suffolk, in the Holland area. He was the youngest of 16 children, the son of a prominent Baptist minister. His daddy wouldn't allow him to join the army until he was 16½, he says in his account. He saw action guarding the Blackwater River against Yankees until his regiment was called to help defend Richmond in 1864. By then, he was a corporal and courier for two generals. In April 1865, Howell was taken prisoner at the battle of Sailor's Creek and was transported to Point Lookout, Md., a notorious Union prison. He was there when he heard about the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. "I arose pretty early," he says. "There were 20000 of us there. I saw a flag pole, and a flag stopped halfway." The youth, a slightly built man with bright red hair, knew what it meant. "I stuck my head in a tent and said, 'Boys, there must be some big Yankee dead.' " A guard told the men later that the president had been shot. Howell says he felt no hatred toward Lincoln, only kindness. "We didn't fight for the preservation or extension of slavery," he says. "It was a great curse on this country that we had slavery. We fought for states' rights, for states' rights." The manipulation created a link from the former East / West border to the US / Mexican border in order to reimagine the dramatic situation at worldwide borders today. The message was addressed to the tourists on location, that can travel easily over every border without risking their life. People's great trust in their photographic reproductions of reality was what motivated me to develop the *Image Fulgurator*. A camera can be used as a personal memory tool, since people do not doubt the veracity of their own photographs. Hence, photos can reproduce the reality of an individual environment or public space. At sacred or popular locations, or those having a political connotation, an intervention with the Fulgurator can be particularly effective. Especially objects with a special aura or great symbolic power are good targets for this kind of manipulation. In other words, with the Fulgurator it is possible to have a lasting effect on those kinds of individual moments and events that become accessible to the masses only because they are preserved photographically.
