Gene Kardos & His Orch. - A Hot Dog A Blanket And You, 1931

This orchestra - which, actually, was active only in the Ist half of the 1930s, presenting the early swing style, in many recordings retained though, the charm of hot dance Roaring Twenties. More detailed info about Gene Kardos and his band can be found in other clips with his music, in my site. Recording: Gene Kardos & His Orch. - A Hot Dog, A Blanket And You, voc. Gene Kardos Orchestra - Red Headed Baby, 1931

Gene Kardos & His Orchestra, voc. Dick Robertson -- Red Headed Baby, Victor 1931 NOTE: Gene KARDOS -- American tenor sax player who led a New York territory orchestra from 1931 to 1938. The band's early swing sound earned it a large acclaim and made Kardos a regular contract at the Roseland Ballroom. The group made its first recordings for Victor in 1931. It also made several early recordings on the Crown label under the name of Kardos' pianist Joel Shaw. House vocalist Dick Robertson was featured on many of those early sides, in 1935 however, Robertson left the band to lead his own dance orchestra. The tunes given Kardos to record were bright and bouncy, but rarely of lasting quality. Later recordings were made under Kardos' name on RCA and ARC with new vocalists, such as: Chick Bullock, Pat Henry, Don Carrol, Cecil Bridge, Lee Russell or Jackie Gale.

NJIT Innovations - Joseph Kardos

Joe Kardos is a Civil Engineering major in the Albert Dorman Honors College at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is investigating how bridge scour affects the bridges in the state of New Jersey in the Hydraulics and Hydrogeology Laboratory. Scour, defined as "the erosion or removal of streambed or bank material from bridge foundations due to flowing water" is the most common cause of highway bridge failures in the United States. His research is helping the NJ Department of Transportation study 165 bridges to better understand their structural integrity and safety.

Sleepy Hall & His Collegians, v. Smith Ballew: How The Time Can Fly, Melotone 1931 ---------------------------- NOTE: I have no idea who Sleepy Hall was. The artistic quality of his band is superb. Probably, Sleepy Hall and His Collegians was one of those fantastic nicknames covering the studio orchestras for the cheaper labels.
