Kenshin vs. Police Swordsmen, Rurouni Kenshin - Season 1, Tokyo Arc
Rurouni Kenshin - Season 1 (Tokyo Story Arc), Episode #3 - "Swordsman of Sorrow: The Man Who Slays His Past" This is the moment I fell in love with the character of Kenshin Himura. At this point, the magnitude of the impact Kenshin's actions had during the Revolution were still unknown. Yamagata Aritomo, now one of the highly ranked Meiji goverment officials, has sought Kenshin in order to convince him of his needed presence within the new goverment and era that Kenshin helped to usher in during his time fighting as "Battosai" the Man-slayer. Kenshin has decided that "manslaughter" is not something that should be rewarded. Instead, he decides that he can best suit this new era by protecting his friends and anybody else that needs help using his reverse-blade sword. This scene also reveals Kenshin's refusal to kill. My very favorite part of this exchange is Kenshin's ability to convey how power corrupts, as the police swordsmen have shown through their actions. Kenshin decides that he can best help the new government by being WITH the people and affecting their lives one at a time. His integrity, compassion and his unrelenting determination for protecting the weak and those that have no say in the new government are perfectly captured in this scene and, well, this is the moment I believe Kenshin begins to create a new "legend". Rurouni Kenshin Last OVA Deleted Scenes with English Sub-titles It took a while to try to translate the original Portugese sub-titles and Nipponggo audio into an english sub-title. Granted that I dont speak either. In the last OVA, this fits in between when Kauro fell ill waiting for Kenshin at the dock, waiting for him to return from China... and Yahiko's visit to the ill Kauro lying on the floor remembering the good old days together. The deleted scene starts with the last apperance of Saito in kenshin's life. Talking to Kauro, he finally realizes that his fight with kenshin wouldn't be the same as during the bakumatsu, or even much later before they went on their shishio trip to kyoto. He finally accepts that Kenshin is a different person now, and not the killer he once knew. He walks away with a slight hint of disappointment on his shoulders that he's association with Kenshin finally ends. The next scene show the night Kauro proposes to Kenshin (lucky guy..hehehe) and how at the start of being a rurouni, the results of his being a battousai traumatized him deeply, pushing him more to be a wanderer. At this point, Kauro askes kenshin to be part of her family. Suceeding scenes show Kenshin and Kaurou's Wedding, life as newly weds, the birth and early years of Kenjji, their son, then the flashback ends with Kauro, ill in bed, talking to Yahiko who visited her. No infringement intended. Just a fan of an Anime and Anime Ova I had watched and appreciated over 8 years ago...

Rurouni Kenshin - Season 1 (Tokyo Story Arc), Episode #24 - " Midnight Battle: Sanosuke vs. Kenshin Revisted" I suspect this scene is forgotten and overlooked, but rings so true when you think about it. It does, however, require some background to fully appreciate it. As the remaining two members of the Sekihōtai army, Sano and Katsuhiro Tsukioka have planned to take their revenge on the Meiji government for the slaughter of their comrades and beloved leader, Captain Sagara. Only Kenshin stands in their way. While it is tough to argue against the grievance Sano and Katsu have, there planned action of chaos and destruction of the government headquarters is something Kenshin cannot allow. As a sworn protector of innocent lives, as well as the chance for the Meiji government to find its way toward peace and democracy, Kenshin stands between these two men from committing their misguided deeds. I absolutely love the way this scene is lit, as this set is the perfect backdrop for this confrontation. The revelation at the end the scene by Katsu (with a little help from Sano) is one of my favorite moments in the whole anime. Sano and Katsu want so bad to return the good name to the Sekihōtai and to the memory of their mentor, Captain Sagara, they almost make the biggest mistake of their lives. Fortunately, Sano and Katsu finally realize their actions would have had only the opposite result that they desired. The best part is Kenshin didn't even have to say it...his eyes conveyed <b>...</b>

Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story (るろうに剣心 明治剣客浪漫譚, Rurōni Kenshin Meiji Kenkaku Romantan?) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki. The fictional setting takes place during the early Meiji period in Japan. The story is about a fictional assassin named Himura Kenshin, formerly known as the "Hitokiri Battōsai" (人斬り抜刀斎, "Hitokiri Battōsai"? or "Battosai the Manslayer" in the English dub) who becomes a wanderer to protect the people of Japan. Being a fan of the Shinsengumi, Watsuki designed the characters by basing their characteristics to that of the real Shinsengumi members and also used fictional representation of them and other historical characters from the Bakumatsu period of Japan.

Fuji vs. Hiko - Part 1, Rurouni Kenshin - Season 2, Kyoto Arc
Rurouni Kenshin - Season 2 (Kyoto Story Arc), Episode #53 - " "The Giant versus Superman" Part 1 of 2 While the show's namesake is away dealing with Shishio - Karouy, Yahiko, Misao and other members of the Oniwaban Group have just accomplished the impossible and defeated 3 members of the Juppongatana during the battle of the Aoiya. At what should have been their moment of triumph, it would seem the fates were against these brave warriors as two more members of the Juppongatana appear to challenge the remaining defenders of the Aoiya. The Destruction Army of Fuji and Saitsuchi make their way to the scene and effectively drain any remaining hope for our heroes. BUT -- hope is not completely lost. Seijuro Hiko, Kenshin's master, (at the request of Kenshin) appears just in time to provide protection to those that believed in his "dumb" apprentice. Hiko is an incredibly imposing man -- very confident, sure in his abilities and while a little rough around the edges; he is a good man who ultimately will do the right thing. He is warrior, a killer, but has a strong sense of morality and honor that is very befitting a master of such a powerful martial art. What's so amazing about this scene is despite how massive and grandiose Fuji is - when matched up against Hiko -- you can't help but think that Fuji is really in for it. Rurouni Kenshin - Season 2 (Kyoto Story Arc), Episode #53 - " "The Giant versus Superman" Part 2 of 2 - Be sure and check out Part 1 of this confrontation here: www.youtube.com The characters have chewed the scenery long enough -- now the fight starts. This scene would not have nearly the impact it had without the amazing score playing throughout. "Warriors Suite" is a grand, epic, sweeping piece of music that is so rousing and moving, you can't help but feel totally and completely in the moment. While the reciting of the sword technique by the swordsman can sometimes seem corny (especially dubbed) I think the music and overall staging gives the scene a resonance that just plain works. Though no actual violence is shown, it's the build up that makes for such an intense, fun and exciting moment that you can't help but receive a charge from. The fight is short, but the direction, blocking of the action/characters and editing all come together for one of my favorite scenes in the anime. The anticipation of action is sometimes better than the action, itself. Damn Hiko is cool.
