Set in Khorog's restored Central Park, the Roof of the World Festival included two ensembles of traditional music from across the river in Afghanistan, one troupe from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan each, and a local group performing folkloric Tajik tunes. Local NGOs and international development organizations set up stands and demonstrated energy efficient technologies during the day.

Garm Chashma hotspring near Khorog in Wakhan Valley, Tajikistan

Bro. Chan Khoon San visited the Garm Chashma hotspring on 30 May 2011. This natural hotspring is located about 50 km south of Khorog in the Wakhan Valley of Tajikistan. The water in the pool is blue in colour due to the presence of copper. Calcium deposits form at the areas where the hot water flows out to make it look like a miniature waterfall. Men and women have separate bathing pools.

A ride from Dushanbe to Khorog with Modern Talking in the background

Central Asian guys seem to like Enrique Iglesias. And Modern Talking. A day in a jeep or private transport starts at least with a song of one of those two bands.

Dushanbe Khorog Spectacular Flight on AN-28

Short video from the scheduled flight Dushanbe-Khorog on board Tajik Airway's AN-28. The flight is regularly canceled for bad weather and when watching the video, you'll see, why you wouldn't want to fly in fog or storm. In Soviet times pilots going on this flight were paid extra risk-money and today there are only three left that have the licence to do the flight. It's probably one of the most spectacular scheduled flights on earth. Five times through this 1-hour flight the plane shoots over ridges only 20 - 50 feet beneath the plane.

Khorog in Early spring.

The view from Bizmich "dachak". However, it's much more beautiful during the early summer and late fall. The crisp moring air, the dark blue river, the first lights of sun touching the picks of the very high mountains - so underappreciated and yet so mesmorizing...
