This bit is part of the grand title score that the Maestro Ilaiyaraaja wrote for the 1980 movie Nenjathai Killathe. Ilaiyaraaja always gave music par excellence for Mahindran movies and this movie was no exception. I am just playing a brief bit from the full title score. I view this as a counterpoint written for 2 voices - An Acoustic and a Bass Guitar. The original title score itself treats jogging sound as the main rhythm of the song. It signifies how romance develops between the hero and the heroine as they do morning jogs together. The song "Paruvame" composed for this situation remains as one of the most adorable songs by millions of South Indians. The score starts with 4 bars of 9/8 which can be viewed as Sankeerna Eka Talam in Carnatic Parlance. After that it continues as a regular 6/8 of a swing waltz meter played by a brush kit. When the movement with Sitar ends, this counterpoint starts between 2 guitars takes over. It culminates into a typical Raaja's flourish of solo violin backed by a full scale string ensemble. The original title score along with the sheet music (for the counterpoint part alone) can be found at: raagadevan.blogspot.com
