The Future of Japanese Kimono

Where Japan kimono may be headed in the 21st century. In Japan today you can still occasionally spot people (women mostly) wearing the traditional Japanese kimono. If you encounter someone in kimono walking along the street in Japan then it is likely they are on their way to some important event such as a marriage or school entrance ceremony. Community festivals and religious events are also great places to see people dressed in some version of Japan's traditional costume. Only a few decades ago in Japan it was not uncommon to frequently see older women wearing subdued kimono as they went about their town errands. Such women commonly wore kimono as their standard outfit, and may have held an impressive wardrobe of these beautiful robes in their home. The traditional kimono wardrobe for a woman did in the past commonly include one or more kimono for everyday wear; another for shopping, traveling or meeting with friends; still another for semi-formal visiting; another for weddings and receptions and finally a black crested ceremonial kimono for use at funerals. In addition, a woman would require a large number of supplemental items such as a kimono corset, special undershirts and half-slips, a lined under-kimono and half-collar, silk waistband, tabi socks and zori or geta sandals! My wife's grandmother wore and made her own kimono all her adult life until her passing in the mid 1980's. While growing up, my wife Yumiko and her grandmother shared a small bedroom together, and ...

==Websites== Twitter: twitter.com Blog: kobekevin.blogspot.com Coming of Age Day or Seijin no Hi 成人の日 is a Japanese holiday held annually on the second Monday of January. It is held in order to congratulate and encourage all those who have reached the age of majority (20 years old) over the past year, and to help them realize that they have become adults. Festivities include the coming of age ceremonies (成人式 seijin-shiki) held at local and prefectural offices, as well as after-parties amongst family and friends. I took this footage this morning while wandering around downtown Kobe, Japan. After arriving in Kyoto we began the day with a visit to a kimono rental shop where Emily and Yumiko enjoyed selecting lovely kimonos to wear for our day of sightseeing and temple outings.

Kimono Kitty Noms Sushi

Sushi is one of the most popular food nowadays. Cats can enjoy sushi too because the main ingredient is usually fish. We set aside a few pieces of salmon, tuna, and yellowtail for our kimono kitty Mochi to savor. Due to safety concerns, we heated up the sushi for some time. We also requested and made sure that there was no wasabi underneath the fish, because wasabi is strongly acidic and can cause stomach upsets in pets. We mainly fed Mochi the fish portion. She really enjoyed the sushi, especially the yellowtail. Visit SweetFurr.blogspot.com for pictures and videos of Mochi and our other pets.

KIMONO♥PRINCESS

KIMONO♥PRINCESS by jun from DanceDanceRevolution X2 and DanceDanceRevolution Hottest Party 3. The composer for this song is Junko Karashima, better known as her alias "jun". She's a popular artist among DDR fans for her catchy happy hardcore songs, but she has recently shown that she can expand her genres beyond more than that genre. Take the R&B song "No Matter What" or the hardcore techno song "PARANOIA ~HADES", for example. jun also serves as one of the members, along with NAOKI MAEDA, of the popular J-Group TЁЯRA. The vocalist for this song is Anna Kaelin, a singer and songwriter from Salt Lake City, Utah. She also sings NAOKI's "You are a Star" in these games Lyrics: (Let me know if there are any mistakes!) I've been invited to a summer festival Music surrounds me on this special night I find myself getting lost in the moment 'Cause you're still dancing and you're in my sight You're stepping along, can't get my eyes off of you Then I see you're looking back at me Could this be what I think it is? Can feel my heart beat like a new butterfly. I know, you've got to be the one I could tell when our eyes met each other I get strong, but my knees are feelin' weak And I feel myself at last You've got the cutest little smile We can tell there's attraction going on now Stars are all aligning, one by one For our love, you are my prince charming And you make me feel like I am a KIMONO♥PRINCESS! Toshiya - Pretty Japanese Girls in Kimono doing Kyudo (Japanese Archery) in Kyoto

therovingroninreport.blogspot.com Toshiya is a centuries old tradition close to New Year's where archers come to test their mettle at Sanjusangendo Temple in Kyoto. Over 2000 archers go there many of them young girls in kimono and hakama celebrating their coming of age ceremonies. In the past archers would try to see how many arrows they could shoot in a 24-hour period or how many times they could hit the target out of a set number of arrows. Today because of the huge number of participants, each archer generally shoots about 2 arrows at targets 60 meters away. The main attraction is the number of pretty girls in their beautiful kimono.

Trip to Kyoto - Part Three: Maiko Kimono Rental

During our tour of Kyoto we encountered a group of young women who had elected to have themselves done up like apprentice geisha called maiko. The appearance of maiko are one of the hallmark symbols of Japan though many people confuse these women with geisha who are typically more subdued in appearance. Maiko and geisha are now rare sights in Japan though visitors to Kyoto can choose to rent the special kimono and have their hair and make-up prepared in the style of a maiko. The meaning of the word geisha translates as artist while the meaning of maiko means dance child or half jewel (the latter term comes from the fact that maiko as apprentices typically receive half the wage of a full geisha). Geisha are maiko are not prostitutes though this image has developed outside Japan. Their purpose is to sing, dance and entertain the customer (typically men) with clever wit and conversation. My thanks to Wikipedia for these interesting facts.
