It was paramount when casting the role of Robert Kearns for Flash of Genius that audiences would believe this is a well-intentioned man who cherishes his family, but loses himself in an unimaginable lawsuit. We want to like him; we want to believe in and root for him even during the times he becomes unlikable. Enter actor Greg Kinnear. Refreshing and inspiring are the words Kinnear uses to describe his draw to the story. The richness of character and the integrity of what Kearns was fighting for—not the money, but his dignity and what was right. That kind of purity is rare. Director Abrahams solid track record as a producer inspired the confidence in the performer it would take to film the part. Kinnear continues: Marcs deeply passionate about this story on both personal and cinematic levels, and he stuck to it and fought for it and found the truth of it. To prepare for the role, Kinnear researched the Kearns family story and began to assemble a portrait of the complex inventor and his family. He immersed himself in articles about the case and studied the familys home movies and an appearance by the inventor on David Lettermans late night show that captured the essence of the engineer. The performer was keen to not simply paint Kearns as an infallible hero, but a father and a husband who made some very difficult decisions on behalf of his family, some of which devastated them. On the first of October me, Eric (yurysausage), and Mike (MikeDelic14) went down to Hamilton for the day. These few videos are from CP, I'll have a video of the CN trains on a later date. Anyways... In the morning after catching CN 422 at Bayview, we headed to Kinnear where we caught CP 246 with SOO 6035, CITX 2799, NREX 7275 & CP 8243 working the yard. We we're waiting for him to depart, but he sat in the yard so we left. Later in the day we found out he left the yard many hours later. While waiting for CN 148, the CP Ham turn was heading for Kinnear with 4 geeps hauling auto racks. he was coming down the hill quite fast. The last clip is CP 255 with 2 GE's chugging up the Niagra Escarpment, and over Mill St in Waterdown. Enjoy!

Two recession-tastic PIFs for housing grants from around 1979, starring the great squashed-prop-forward comic actor Roy Kinnear as the sort of put-upon doughy man for which he had the perfect face. Kinnear lives in the kind of Winter-of-Discontent "squalor contemporary" that most first-world youngsters these days would find completely incomprehensible. Not only does he only have one toilet, it's not even in the house. Humiliation upon humiliation is piled upon poor Kinnear, underlined by an openly contemptuous voiceover from fellow dead comedy genius Leonard Rossiter, who gives the impression of some kind of Government surveillance man observing him with faintly detatched amusement from a distance, without his knowledge. The trials of parenthood are at the forefront of this murky horror effort that recalls 1970s child-possession hits like AUDREY ROSE ('77) and The EXORCIST ('73). Inner-city school teacher Paul (Greg Kinnear) and his wife Jessica (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) are distraught after losing their eight-year-old son David (Cameron Bright) in an accident. At the funeral, Jessica's old science professor Dr. Wells (Robert Deniro) offers them a chance to rebuild their lives: a mansion in the country near his DNA clinic, a private school teaching job for Paul, and an exact clone of their dead son. Sworn to secrecy and facing all sorts of moral issues, the grief-stricken couple accepts Wells' offer. All goes well until the new David passes the age he previously died, then comes ghostly visions of burning children, and premonitions of murder. A creepily unobtrusive score and the film's drab look help maintain a welcome low-key, character-driven mood here, with the result that GODSEND works both as a standard horror film and a darkly psychological meditation on the uncertainty, misgivings, and sheer terror involved with child rearing. Deniro is great, as usual, and the gorgeous Romijn-Stamos proves herself adept in an unglamorous, tensely dramatic change-of-pace role as the split-apart mother.
