2007 STEREO Snapshots ~ Comet McNaught ~ Sun - Earth CME ~ Corona Australis

I am enlightened to see such a view. Thanks ESA, NASA, SECCHI, STEREO departments. Nice perspective of our solar system and neighbouring bodies, including a labeled earth and moon, as seen by STEREO satellite A on February 18, 2007. Another neat STEREO image is the earth impacting CME taken with STEREO A HI-1A & 2A (Shown near the very end of this video) VIDEO FEATURES ------------------------------------------ Labeled planets and other bodies within and outside our solar system. January 2007 - non-periodic Comet McNaught @perihelion and JPL orbit simulation Corona Australis also known as Corona Austrina, Coronae Austrinae, and "The Southern Crown".... contrasts with semi-circular, arc shaped Corona Borealis, "The Northern Crown." The Brightest star in Corona Australis is Alpha Coronae Australis, belonging to approximate spectral type A2V. It has an apparent magnitude of +4.10. In the northern sky.. the brighest star in constellation Corona Borealis is a binary star system named Alpha Coronae Borealis. It has an apparent magnitude that slightly varies from +2.21 to +2.32. Interesting quote: "As the brightest star in Corona Borealis, it lent its name to the brightest in Corona Australis." - wikipedia Our star is typed as spectral class G2V, based on temperature, size and luminosity. Credits to STEREO, SECCHI, NASA, Ulysses, Cassini, IBEX.. and others! Many thanks for the educational tools, video, effort and science put into the Heliospheric research missions. The Ballad of Lovejoy - The Comet that Could

www.thesuntoday.org - On December 2, 2011, Astronomer Terry Lovejoy discovered a Kreutz or sungrazing comet using a ground based telescope. The comet was labeled C W3 or simply Lovejoy. It was then seen by STEREO (Behind 12/11 then Ahead 12/12) with the Heliospheric Imagers (HI1). It was reported by SOHO and NRL (Karl Battams). Karl has kept up a great running story with tons of details at sungrazer.nrl.navy.mil. SOHO LASCO C3 starting seeing Lovejoy on 12 By that time there was a lot of excitement. Lovejoy was determined to be quite large for a sungrazer (10 times most) with an estimated size of 100+ meters. All this indicated that this would be the brightest such comet seen from space but it was also only the second one seen from the ground. This also means that Terry Lovejoy is the first person to find a Kreutz comet from the ground and space! After SOHO, the STEREO coronagraphs started observing Lovejoy. The orbit has been plotted and since SDO had already seen a sungrazer in EUV light it was time to prepare to see another one. Also, PROBA2 and Hinode started making plans. But the other exciting bit was that the predicted orbit had Lovejoy going around the Sun and with its size there was the chance it would not evaporate in the solar corona. Most people didn't think it would survive but nobody really knew. Well to get to the point - It survived! I haven't felt such excitement in a long time. Seeing grown scientists giddy (including myself) was great! The whole event ...
