In a unique step for an industrial robot manufacturer, robotics giant KUKA has released a mobile platform (!) with open interfaces (!) including several open source (!) software modules for education and research (!). The video shows a prototype. The final version will feature magnesium casings for the arm to make it even lighter, re-designed covers for the body that allow for easier battery access and - obviously - omniwheels in KUKA-orange. Watch video in HD for best experience! Two KUKA Lightweight Robots are remote controlled (tele-operated) by a Microsoft surface application utilizing mult-touch and tangible interaction. The operator cannot see the robots directly, he can just use three types of feedback that are provided: the picture taken by a camera mounted on the right robot, a 3D visualization of the robot poses and the force values measured by the robots at their end effectors. These force values are displayed inside the 3D visualization. The application is powered by a robot control architecture developed in the research project SoftRobot. The architecture includes a real-time robot control core supporting the Realtime Primitives Interface (RPI) and the Java-based Robotics API for high level robot application modeling.

Tamiya based 1:14 rc refusetruck, model 1972 RotoPress 215 G with extra large hopper for bulky waste, halfway build. The drum is turning now on half the power, becouse the hinges of the hopper are not build yet, (I connected the hopper with sellotape) so there is still not much crushing power The truck will be equipped with a multi function set, to allow the truck to drive, working lights, sound, the compactionsystem and hopper to work.

At Ravensburger, five KUKA robots get puzzles and games ready for storage and dispatch. In a state-of-the-art automation system from FPT, KUKA palletizing robots palletize boxes of puzzles and games, with the correct grip for each different size of box. From the production line to the high-bay warehouse, the products make their way from the conveyor to the pallet and via the stretch wrapper to the warehouse, all without the need for a fork lift truck. The particular highlight: the whole sequence of operations is controlled by the KUKA KR C2. Ravensburger Spieleverlag GmbH was looking for an automation solution that could cope with a large number of different products. It quickly became apparent that a general overhaul of the old layering palletizer would be too cost-intensive and require too much effort. Furthermore, it was also necessary to be able to palletize delicate puzzles and games without damaging the packaging. The omniMove® wheel consists of eight specially shaped, non-driven rollers, which are mounted between two identical stable rims. The unique advantage of this is that platforms with omniMove® wheels can be moved in any direction from a standing start. The wheels do not have a steering mechanism, as changes in direction are determined by the direction of rotation of the wheels relative to one another. The motivation to do this was strong pressure to reduce costs and the resultant desire for higher cost-effectiveness. TINE Meieriet Øst decided to introduce greater automation in order to achieve a significant increase in palletizing capacity. The company, a subsidiary of TINE BA, Norways largest producer of dairy products, thus wanted to move away from manual palletizing downstream of a TetraPak filling machine. In addition to this, older systems were also earmarked for replacement. Another reason for greater automation was the lack of space available.
