05/26/2010 Massive Colorado Hail Storm.

BNVN Weather Paparazzi Tony Laubach was out with the Twistex.org research team today for the storms in Colorado. A massive hail storm hit east of Denver, CO today in Hudson and Wiggins Counties. Hail fell for over a half an hour in some area and piled up to almost a foot deep. Snow plows were out trying to clear the hail covered roads for motorists and emergency vehicles. In the video which is over eight minutes long, it documents the large hail and the destruction to vehicles and vegetation as the hail smashed into motorists and ripped the leafs from the trees. Additional footage shows hail falling in a lake and in a creek with water splashing from the large hail stones falling at terminal velocity from the severe thunderstorm. The video includes a lot of various shots of the hail storm and aftermath of the hail storm including why it is not a good idea to block the underpasses by parking under them during a hail storm as emergency vehicles can not get through. Hail Storm - July 12, 2011 (pt.5)

Lakewood, Colorado. The Aftermath. Here's the flash flood I mentioned in another post. Brave by-standers watch in amazment. The water was up over the brake wells in some cars. One guy flooded out his exhaust system it seems. The park/green space where we sometimes walk Angus was completely flooded out. Here is where a new lake was formed in under 20 minutes. Good times..

Colorado Storm Damage 7/20/2009 Part 1

Tornado? Microburst? I don't know. These are pictures of the damage from a very bad hail storm that hit our house last night. The damage to the house is not terrible, but we do lose a window, some screens, and the roof to our deck. Our cars all have bad hail dings to one side and we have a few broken break lights.

The Hailstorm

There was this rumbling, like an earthquake rushing in our direction, or a freight train. We heard it coming. Then, like a giant wave, everything was being battered by dense, jawbreaker-sized hail. The hailstorm stripped the leaves off the trees and left everything plastered with shredded leaves.

2011-08-25 Grass Fire - Lakewood, CO

***NOT FOR BROADCAST - LICENSING AVAILABLE*** STORM CHASER TONY LAUBACH www.tornadoeskick.com VIDEO DESCRIPTION A small grass fire broke out near Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood shortly before noon on Thursday, August 25, 2011. Witnesses say they heard popping from a electrical line about the time the fire started. The fire didn't threaten any structures, but did briefly threaten a few vehicles parked in the Red Rocks Apartment Complex parking lot across from Building D. West Metro Fire Fighters were on the scene within 5 minutes of the phoned in reports and quickly put out the fire. While not confirmed, it is believed the fire did start from the electrical lines. However several residents living in the Red Rocks Apartments claim that the area is frequently used by smokers. No serious damage was reported, however plastic covers over some of the lines at the ground were melted from the flames. Arbutus Drive from West 2nd Place to the Red Rocks Campus Loop was closed for about 25 minutes while crews put out the fire.

Colorado Tornado 7/20/2009 Aftermath

This is video of a Tornado, or something close to a tornado, that hit our house outside Denver on 7/20 Evening. The storm hit at about 10:15 and lasted for about ten minutes. I went outside to roll up the windows on my car around 9:45, seeing the storm to the north. It produced a lot of lightening, but I didn't think much of it. Around 10:00, we heard a loud clap of thunder, so we went in to turn off the computers. I looked out the window to see the rain moving almost sideways! My mom and I woke up my dad, about the time my sister called, saying she though it looked like a tornado. I looked out again to see the rain and cloud almost swirling! I decided the best thing to do was run into the shower in the basement and pray! After the storm, we looked outside. We lost a couple of windows (on the house and our truck) and our deck roof is completely destroyed, as you can see in the pictures. Our cars all have dings and the plastic light covers are broken. It was also really foggy. The ground was covered in hail, almost like snow. The largest appeared to be golf ball sized. Here are my pictures. I'm not a good night photographer, but I hope it gives you an idea of the damage. I'll take some more in the morning when I can see.
