" Toaca " and the bells at Putna monastery: " Laudo Deum verum, plebem voco, congrego clerum; defunctos plango, fulmina fugo, festa decoro. - I praise the true God, I call the people, I assemble the clergy; I bewail the dead, I dispense storm clouds, I do honour to feasts." " Toaca " is a percussion instrument made of a long, thick and well-planed piece of timber which is hit in different rhythms by 1 or 2 wooden hammers, with a technique requiring special skills. It is used chiefly in monasteries to summon the brethren to prayer, or to lead processions. From Holy Thursday until the Resurrection service at first hour of Easter Sunday it is forbidden to toll the bells, as a sign of mourning and grief for Our Lord's sufferings and death, so only the "toaca" will be heard. The bells tolling will announce the Resurrection ! The Putna monastery, situated in North of Romania, is an Orthodox monastery, one of the most important cultural, religious and artistic centers established in medieval Moldavia. It was built between 1466-1470 and dedicated to Virgin Mary by glorious Prince Stephen the Great (1457-1504) named " Athleta Christi " by Pope Sixtus IV. Stephen is famous for building and influencing the building of dozens of churches and monasteries all over Moldavia (allegedly, he founded a religious edifice after each important military victory). Bârsana is one of the famous villages of Maramures historical region in Romania. Maramures is the best preserved and most original ethnographical region in Europe. Characteristic for Maramures are the ancestral songs and costumes and the wood architecture, here a real civilisation in wood existing. În Bârsana had existed an important Orthodox monastery between the 14th century and 1791. The today monastery was refounded in 1993. The three wood churches are historical monuments dating from 17-18th century. One of them is the original church of the ancient monastery. The new buildings of the monastery have been build by the local peasants in Maramures traditional architectural style. Everything is in wood.

The Valaam Monastery, or Valamo Monastery is a stauropegic Orthodox monastery in Russian Karelia, located on Valaam, the largest island in Lake Ladoga, the largest lake in Europe.According to one tradition, the monastery was founded by a 10th century Greek monk, Sergius, and his Karelian companion, Herman.The Valaam monastery was a northern outpost of Eastern Orthodoxy against the heathens and, later, a western outpost against Catholic Christianity from Tavastia, Savonia and (Swedish) Karelia.

+St. John the New Monastery - located in Suceava, Suceava Country +++The holy, glorious and right-victorious Great-martyr JOHN THE NEW of SUCEAVA was a romanian saint of the 14th century. His feast days are celebrated on June 2 and June 24. St. John was born in Trebizond in Asia Minor in about 1300 to devout Orthodox parents.On a trading trip to Cetatea Albă, then part of Moldova but now Bilhorod-Dnistrovs'kyy in the Ukraine, he got to know a Venetian merchant named Reiz whilst they were sailing on the Black Sea. They discussed the faith many times and, seeing that John always defeated his arguments, the Venetian decided to take revenge. On arriving in Cetatea Albă, Reiz spread a rumor that John, despite being raised Christian, was interested in the Muslim faith. Cetatea Albă at that time had been conquered by Muslim Tartars, and when their ruler heard the rumor he called for John. He was taken before the ruler and asked if it was true that he wished to deny the Christian faith and become a Muslim. He responded that he would never give up his faith in the true God in order to worship created things or the inventions of men. This response offended the Tartar ruler, who ordered John to renounce his faith on pain of torture. He refused to do so, enduring many beatings, and was eventually martyred by being dragged behind a horse through the streets of the city before having his head struck off by a 'fanatical Jew'. The year was 1330 and John was only about 30 years old <b>...</b>

Un astfel de loc se afla si in Romania pe Valea Plopului sub coordonara parintelui Nicolae Tanase, loc in care se afla peste 300 de copii orfani. Pentru mai multe informatii vizitati : bisericasecreta.wordpress.com Manastirea Banceni - sfant lacas de inchinaciune al romanilor din Ucraina Dincolo de granita de nord a Romaniei la doar cativa kilometri, pe teritoriul Ucrainei, pe o colina inverzita, se afla manastirea Banceni, loc de profunda spiritualitate care ii aduna pe romanii din aceasta regiune. O biserica de mari dimensiuni strajuieste in mijlocul manastirii. Aici, dar si in celelalte biserici mai mici ale acestui asezamant monahal, se oficiaza slujba in limba romana. Petuniile care se revarsa de la cele trei etaje ale corpului de chilii si ale staretiei proaspat zugravite in culoarea turcoaz, aleile cu trandafiri de diferite culori, vasele cu flori de la intrarea trapezei, imbogatesc aceasta oaza de liniste de la marginea padurii. Si totusi, linistea aceasta este, in timpul zilei, intrerupta de zgomotul masinilor si al constructorilor. La Banceni se construieste in continuare sub obladuirea Parintelui Staret Mihail Jar, cel care, cu binecuvantarea lui Dumnezeu, a ridicat acest ansamblu manastiresc, format din mai multe cladiri. In partea stanga, sub un pavilion acoperit cu tabla albastra ce te duce cu gandul la cerul senin, se afla Altarul de vara unde se oficiaza Liturghiile cand se aduna foarte multi credinciosi.
