Königgrätzer Marsch
Der preußische Militärmusiker Gottfried Piefke komponierte nach dem Sieg der preußischen Truppen über die Österreicher bei Königgrätz (Sadowa) am 3. Juli 1866 den Königgrätzer Marsch (Armeemarsch II, 134 (Armeemarsch II, 195)). Dieser Sieg ebnete den Weg zur Vorherrschaft Preußens im Deutschen Bund und damit letztlich auch zur Gründung des deutschen Kaiserreiches 1871. Die erste Niederschrift des Marsches soll Piefke noch auf den Schlachtfeld selbst angefertigt haben. Der Sechs-Achtel-Marsch beschreibt in zwei Motiven zunächst das unentschiedene Gefecht zwischen dem ersten preußischen Kontingent und den Österreichern, das zweite Motiv steht für das entscheidende Eintreffen preußischer Verstärkung. Als Trio für den Königgrätzer Marsch verwendete Piefke den Hohenfriedberger Marsch, wohl um an die Siege Friedrichs II. über die Österreicher zu erinnern. Ergänzend dazu schuf Piefke den "Königgrätzer mit anderem Trio" (Heeresmarsch IIIB, 67), diese zweite Fassung besitzt heute aber keinen nennenswerten Bekanntheitsgrad mehr. Hohenfriedberger Marsch (English Subtitle)
The Hohenfriedberger March is a Prussian/German march that was written after the Prussian victory over the Austrians (and Saxons) at Hohenfriedberg (nowadays called Dobromierz, South-West Poland) in 1745, and is specially dedicated to the Prussian Dragoner-Regiment Nr. 5, for they have destroyed 20 Austrian and Saxon battalions, took 2500 prisoners, and captured 67 regimental standards, losing only 6 officers and 28 men killed. Assisting the Prussian to gain a decisive victory, the Austrian Prinz Karl was forced to retreat in disarray. After the charge at Hohenfriedberg, the regiment was permitted to wear a golden 67 on their cartridge cases. They also received a diploma from Frederick the Great, naming all officers who took part in the charge and praising the regiment, as well as granting them their own regimental march, the Hohenfriedberger March, composed by Frederick himself. -Please Rate & Comment- -Please Read the Description- This is a complete list of the organ tracks played in the "Fairground Organ" loop played by Merry-Go-Rounds and Carousels in Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 & 2. These tracks were originally recorded in 1976 by the CJ Mead Organisation, from a Voigt Model 35 69-Keyless Street/Band Organ at Bressingham Steam Museum, Norfolk. Called the Bressingham Voigt, it remained there for many years, but was eventually sold and now performs in the Netherlands. The record was owned by Chris Sawyer's father, and it's tracks were used in both RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 & 2. From what I understand, all of these songs are original arrangements from the Ruth Fair Organ Company. When the 'French Party' organised a "Napoléon Festival" for 12 October 1854 at Karl Schwender's Casino in Rudolfsheim, the Morgen-Post announced that, on this occasion, Johann would conduct the Strauss Orchestra in the first performance of a specially composed Napoleons-Fest-Marsch (Napoléon Festival March). That November it was announced in the Viennese press that "his Majesty, the Emperor Napoléon III, has been pleased to accept the dedication of the 'Napoleon March' composed by Johann Strauss." For his part, the French monarch expressed his gratitude to the young Viennese 'Musikdirektor' by arranging for him to be presented with a valuable pearl tiepin. To this day the swaggering Napoleon-Marsch enjoys considerable success wherever it is played - although it continues to present Strauss researchers with an intriguing puzzle. For the second theme of the trio section, Johann Strauss incorporated a French "national melody", the identity of which he took with him to the grave.
