The Massed Pipes and Drums include: The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, The Royal Corps of Signals, The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, 2nd Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles, and the Scottish Universities Officers Training Corps. This performance was recorded on August 25, 2007.
A proud moment for any Indian! The massed bands of the Indian armed forces - army, navy and air force, performing an old British ritual in front of the Rajpath or Vijay Chowk. Beating of the Tetreat. In India it officially denotes the end of Republic Day festivities. It is conducted on the evening of January 29, the third day after the Republic Day. It is performed by the bands of the three wings of the military, the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. The venue is Raisina Hill and an adjacent square - Vijay Chowk, flanked by the north and south block of the Rashtrapati Bhavan (President's Palace) towards the end of Rajpath. The Chief Guest of the function is the President of India who arrives escorted by the President's Bodyguards (PBG), a cavalry unit. When the President begins to arrive, a Fanfare is sounded by the trumpeters of the Brigade of the Guards on their natural trumpets, and then the PBG commander asks the unit to give the National Salute, which is followed by the playing of the Indian National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana, by the Massed Bands, and at the same time by the unfurling of the Flag of India on the flagpole right at the Vijay Chowk. The ceremony was started in the early 1950s when Major Roberts of the Indian Army developed the ceremony of display by the massed bands in which Military Bands, Pipes and Drums Bands, Buglers and Trumpeters from various Army Regiments besides bands Navy and Air Force take part. In the evening, about 7 pm they go in a slow march towards the Airborne square, to grace the real Market Garden Commemoration. You find everything about laying wreaths, speeches, national anthems of Poland, United Kingdom and The Netherlands (Mazurek Dabrowskiego, God save the queen, Wilhelmus), Dutch Hymn 293 Last Post, respectfull silence to the casualities and the reveille. The completion of the ceremony was at the Arnhem town hall, of which I taped the performance of the Massed Pipes and Drums Band. Thanks to God for sending deliverance. Thanks to those who lost their lives for the victory. Rest in peace! The "Massed Pipes and Drums Band" encompasses these bands: •1. The massed bands of the Brigade of Guards playing as they march from Horse Guards Parade to Buckingham Palace after Trooping the Colour - The Colonel's Review - in London on 4 June 2011. The bands are playing Blankenburg's march Abmarsch in die Quartiere - Back to Camp. Blankenburg wrote nearly 1400 marches, not all of which survive. A small number are very well known, but it's not every day that you get to hear this one. This particular march is catalogued as Blankenburg's Opus 61 and dates from 1908. I've included the march from the beginning. The bands don't come into view until some way through, but it's worth the wait - and just listen to the skill in that writing and the quality of this playing. In front of the massed bands are five Drum Majors in State Dress doing the State Walk. Strangely, there is no Drum Major from the Scots Guards on this occasion, even although it is the Colour of the 1st Battalion Scots Guards which has been trooped. It's a tight fit for the bands even although The Mall is quite wide. Just after 01:30 you can hear the Drum Major nearest the camera shouting out a warning to the Guardsman on his left to stand back, and again just after 01:43 to the Officer. The soldiers lining the route were from the Irish Guards. It is perhaps worth acknowledging that these musicians and soldiers had been on parade for about two hours - and the musicians have played about 50 different pieces!

George Watson's Pipes and Drums at the Braemar Gathering 2011. This video covers the street march where the Massed Bands play from the Invercauld Hotel through the village to the Games Park. A not inconsiderable distance if you are 12 years old and carrying a drum! George Watson's College (Juvenile) Pipe Band - Scottish Champions 2011, British Champions 2011, European Champions 2011, World Champions 2011 and Cowal Champions 2011. Champion of Champions (Band) 2011,2009,2007,2006,2005,2004,2003,2002. Champion of Champions (Drum Corps) 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008 , 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002. George Watson's College Pipes and Drums have three bands of varying ability. There are currently over 200 children being taught either piping or drumming at Watson's. Competing all over the UK at Juvenile and Novice Juvenile level, the Pipes and Drums are now one of the most successful teaching establishments in the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association. Both the Novice Juvenile and the Juvenile bands won the 2009 World and Scottish Champions in their grade. They have also won the Champion of Champions award on numerous occasions. The Pipes and Drums perform mainly at school functions however are in huge demand to play at other events including The Great Scottish Walk, Concerts and other Corporate Events. They have also travelled to various countries, performing in Canada, Japan, Belgium and Russia where they were extremely well received.
