O Holy Night - Maureen Hegarty

Christmas Carol....Music: Adolphe Charles Adam....Words: John Sullivan Dwight. I know the second part of the second verse is not what it should be. I had a memory block when recording. The words should have been "He knows our needs Our weakness is no stranger Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend. There is also a third verse!! Some time I will record the whole carol.

In Derry Vale (The Derry Air) Maureen Hegarty

"In Derry Vale" These are the first words I learned to The Derry Air. I will always remember I was at primary school and I had never even heard of "Danny Boy" Most of the pictures I took with my little digital camera. . IN DERRY VALE In Derry Vale beside the singing river So oft I strayed a many years ago And culled at noon the golden daffodillies That came with spring to set the world aglow Oh Derry vale my thoughts are ever turning To your bread stream and fairy circled lea For your green Isle my exiled heart is yearning So far away across the sea. In Derry Vale amid the Foyle's dark waters The salmon leap above the surging weir The seabirds call I still can hear them calling In night's long dreams of those so dear. Oh tarrying years fly faster ever faster I long to see the vale beloved so well I long to know that I am not forgotten And there at home in peace to dwell. The lovely accompaniment is played by Elizabeth Bicker.

My Lagan Love

One of the most beautiful love songs ever written. Often discussed as to whether it concerns the Lagan in Donegal or the Lagan in Belfast. We generally only hear the first and third verses. MY LAGAN LOVE Where Lagan stream sings lullaby there blows a lily fair: The twilight gleam is in her eye, the night is on her hair And, like a love-sick lenanshee, she hath my heart in thrall; Nor life I owe, nor liberty, for Love is Lord of all. Her father sails a running-barge 'twixt Leambeag and The Bruim And on the lonely river barge she clears the hearth for him When she was only fairy-high her gentle mother died But dew-love keeps her memory green on the Lagan side. And often when the beetle's horn hath lulled the eve to sleep, I steal unto her sheiling lorn, and thro' the dooring peep. There on the cricket's singing stone she spares the bogwood fire, And hums in sad sweet undertone the song of heart's desire. Her welcome, like her love for me, is from her heart within Her warm kiss is felicity that knows no taint of sin And when I stir my foot to go 'tis leaving love and light To feel the wind of longing blow from out the dark of night.

Posted this in reply to a request....I might take it off again. A Lullaby from County Donegal, Ireland. James McCafferty on the piano. Recorded many years ago....I hate to think how many.....so... the girlie voice. THE GARTAN MOTHER'S LULLABY. Words by County Donegal. Seosamh MacCathmhaoil. Sleep, O babe, for the red bee hums The silent twilight's fall Eeval from the Grey Rock comes To wrap the world in thrall A lyan van o, my child, my joy, My love and heart's desire The crickets sing you lullaby Beside the dying fire Dusk is drawn, and the Green Man's thorn is wreathed in rings of fog; Sheevra sails his boat till morn Upon the starry bog A lyan van o, the paly moon hath brimm'd her cusp in dew And weeps to hear the sad sleep-tune I sing, O love to you Sleep, O babe, for the red bee hums the silent twilight's fall. Eeval from the Grey Rock comes to wrap the world in thrall A lyan van o, my child, my joy , My love and heart's desire The crickets sing you lullaby beside the dying fire.

An Coulin agus An Tsean Coulin/Irish Air

Two beautiful airs played by two Derry musicians who play like two people with one mind. There is no-one plays Irish slow airs like Eugene o'Donnell possibly because of his classical training but I believe it is in his heart and in his blood, and no-one better to accompany him than James McCafferty. These men knew each other for nearly 50 years and the CD from which this video was made was recorded in four hours without rehearsal....! I took all the pictures in Donegal within 20 miles of Derry - except the picture of Eugene.
