Indy mayor's race turns negative, already

The race for mayor of Indianapolis took on a new tone Friday as Democrat Melina Kennedy launched the first negative television ad. The timing is unusual because it's not yet Labor Day. It means that Kennedy is trailing incumbent Republican Greg Ballard, though no public polls have been published.

2 Phoenix Mayoral candidates illegally excluded from debate, "good ole boy politics"

Two city of Phoenix Mayoral Candidates (Jennifer Wright and Anna Brennan) have been excluded from a Debate held at a City of Phoenix owned facility on August 15, hosted by the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce. The City of Phoenix is an active member of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, and is in clear violation of Arizona State Law regarding elections. One of the candidates excluded, is polling at the top of the field, and a reasonable person could conclude that this is the same 'good ole boy politics' often used by incumbents and special interests to control election outcomes. In response to this unacceptable and illegal interference with the election process, the 2012 Project, a grassroots organization, hand delivered a notice of violation to the Phoenix Mayor's office as well as the City Manager. Ronn Ludders and Lee Earle leaders of the 2012 Project also requested that either the two excluded candidates be allowed to participate, or that the debate be cancelled. The reponse from the Phoenix City Attorney , Gary Verburg is as follows: "Assistant City Manager, Ed Zuercher, has asked me to respond to your letter dated August 15, 2011. The City of Phoenix Convention Center, of which Symphony Hall is a part of, operates as an enterprise leasing space to tenants who are interested in conducting events at the facility. The City has standard rental rates which are charged for the use of the facilities. With respect to the use of Symphony Hall, the Greater Phoenix ...

Kelowna mayoral race - time for new or the same old same old

I think of career politicians as dinosaurs, their time has come and gone and they are no more then a relic from the past. For real change we have to stop the revolving door politics. The future we face is vastly different from the past we come from and as such, new creative cutting edge solutions are needed to the problems plaguing the world, Canada, BC, Okanagan and Kelowna. No one should doubt that government cuts federally and provincially will come and that health care and education will be impacted, we have to prepare today for tomorrow. Cost cutting measures have to be in place and must start by leadership from the top earners down, and in that Kelowna is very top heavy. Transparency in how City Hall operates is not an option. A new team of councillors and mayor is needed.
