Bruce Channel & Delbert McClinton - Hey Baby

7/14 - A few years ago a portable jukebox was discovered which belonged to John Lennon in the 1960s. The jukebox conntained a tracklist of 40 records - soul, R&B and Rock 'n' Roll - written in Lennon's own handwriting. These are the songs which shaped his musical education and they reveal many of the original sources of inspiration for his later songwriting.

Delbert McClinton - Come Together

Come Together is a song written primarily by John Lennon. The song is on the Beatles 1969 album, Abbey Road. The song reached the top of the charts in the US and was later covered by several other artists such as Aerosmith and The Rolling Stones. As for the wacky lyrics, don't try to interpret them. In a 1980 interview John himself said, "It's gobbledygook. 'Come Together' was an expression that Tim Leary had come up with and he just asked me to write a campaign song. (For office he was running for in Calif.) I tried and tried but I couldn't come up with one. I came up with this, 'Come Together' which would have been no good to him. You couldn't have a campaign song like that, right?" I am a Delbert McClinton fan so I'm uploading his version. Although it may not be the best I'm sure that many people have never heard his version. And maybe you also didn't know that Del taught John Lennon to play the harmonica.
Delbert McClinton::Weatherman

A bit of blues rock from Delbert McClinton, originally for the soundtrack for one of my favorite movies of all time, Groundhog Day. Song: Weatherman Artist: Delbert McClinton Year: 1993 Lyrics: predictions show a steady low, you're feeling just the same. but seasons come and seasons go. i'll make you smile again. if you don't believe take me by the hand, can't you feel you're warming up, yeah, i'm your weatherman. cold wind's blowing, slowly driving everyone insane. hard rain's falling, pitter-patter down your window pane. if precipitation's spoiling all your plans, just call information up, ask for the weatherman. ask for the weatherman. they say it's gone, say winter's done that don't mean a thing. 'cause i'm the one, that moves the sun for you i'd turn it into spring so when you're feeling lonely, try to understand, baby, i can warm you up 'cause i'm your weatherman. when it's cold outside. call your weatherman cold outside i can warm you up i can do it baby when it's nine below zero i can warm you up.

SANDY BEACHES DELBERT MCCLINTON

Delbert McClinton, one of the most laid back by the haystack guys around. Sandy Beaches, my personal favorite has only one flaw: It lasts only 3 minutes. Oh well, it's a great 3 minutes as Barry Beckett produces and his piano slot is taken by ultra-talented John Jarvis and trust me, he does not disappoint here. Of course Delbert's perfectly raspy voice is perfect for this song. Makes you feel like your on a beach in Mexico without leaving the house. Video Thumbnail: Delbert McClinton

Delbert McClinton - Down into Mexico

AMG Album Review by Thom Jurek Cost of Living continues the astonishing run of Delbert McClinton recordings that have come along since the mid-'90s. While some would argue that McClinton has always been consistent, Cost of Living ranks up there with Keeper of the Flame, Plain from the Heart, and Jealous Kind. This set contains 13 tunes, the majority of which McClinton either wrote or co-wrote with old mates including Gary Nicholson, Glen Clark, and Al Anderson. The sounds here are tough, gritty Texas rhythm & blues, hard honky tonk blues, slippery acoustic country, and killer funky white boy Southern soul. While there isn't a weak tune in the bunch, there are some standouts, such as the streetwise stroll of "The Part I Like the Best"; the David Parker/Manuel Villa swamp R&B of "I'll Change My Style"; the utterly spooky tale of robbery and tragedy "Down into Mexico," and the ripped-heart ballads "Kiss Her Once for Me" and "Your Memory, Me, and the Blues." There's also the rollicking wide-open rocker "Dead Wrong." The sheer intensity and acumen of McClinton's delivery on these songs takes his reputation as one of the great R&B singers to an entirely new shelf. For McClinton fans, this will be a major cause to celebrate, for the uninitiated, this is as fine a place as any to start. It's authentic, full of heart, and so deep it's fathomless.
