This video documents boot camp at Parris Island in the 1950s. The video is divided into three parts. Part I was produced by the Marine Corps. It is in black & white and narrated. It documents the boot camp experience with scenes of recruits getting haircuts, on the drill field, the rifle range, confidence course, using pugil sticks and even the infamous "bucket drill." The second part of this video is in color and contains the "out-takes" (scenes not used in the original production) of the first film. There is no narration in this part (a music soundtrack) but the scenes taken in 1957 and 1958 offer additional perspectives on the training recruits received. The third part of this video is in black and white with a music soundtrack. It was made in 1951.

Dean's dad (who were also a marine) kept saying "They (Dean's platoon) don't even know how to march, My drill instructors would have killed us! I should have taught him (Dean) how to march before he went to bootcamp!" I'm like "Are you serious??? You went to Marine bootcamp about 100 years and 120 lb ago, just shut up!"

MCRD Boot Camp Graduation and Vacation pictures. San Diego CA. Pictures from Nancy & my trip to San Diego to see Jake's graduation. The drills on the base streets were new recruits that were probably in their 2-3rd week. The ones on the parade grounds were of the graduating Marines. Green cap ceremony was the family day on Thursday. Full dress was on Friday. Played by the US Marine band. Best National Anthem I ever heard. We attended the Flag raising ceremony on Friday at 7:40am. Very moving. Assorted pictures of us at the USS Midway aircraft carrier which was decommissioned after 47 years in 1992. We were there the same week they were having a reunion for all the guys/gals that had served on the Midway during it's service. And us on a cruise around SD harbor Friday night after the graduation. Music is by Rascal Flatts and this video was from all of pics and was put together by her.

I want to share these video excerpts with all my family. Maybe you can imagine the feelings I had when I first focused the video camera in on Kaleb during the Moto run. I hadn't seen him for 14 weeks, and had not received a letter for four weeks. I was so proud when I first saw him, along with hundreds of other parents. Be sure to watch the video at the very end, when he finally gets Liberty. His face changes from very serious to relaxed.
