Truth About Mental Illness and Disease

www.youtube.com www.encognitive.com The idea of mental illness as a biological entity is easy to refute. In 1988, Seymour S. Kety, MD, Professor Emeritus of Neuroscience in Psychiatry, and Steven Matthysse, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychobiology, both of Harvard Medical School, said "an impartial reading of the recent literature does not provide the hoped-for clarification of the catecholamine hypotheses, nor does compelling evidence emerge for other biological differences that may characterize the brains of patients with mental disease" In 1992 a panel of experts assembled by the US Congress Office of Technology Assessment concluded "Many questions remain about the biology of mental disorders. In fact, research has yet to identify specific biological causes for any of these disorders. ... Mental disorders are classified on the basis of symptoms because there are as yet no biological markers or laboratory tests for them." Columbia University psychiatry professor Jack M. Gorman, MD, said "We really do not know what causes any psychiatric illness." Another Columbia University psychiatry professor, Jerrold S. Maxmen, MD, said "It is generally unrecognized that psychiatrists are the only medical specialists who treat disorders that, by definition, have no definitively known causes or cures. ... Removing The Stigma of Mental Illness

IN ORDER TO READ THE WORDS MORE CLEARLY, PLEASE WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY MODE. It is human nature to fear what we don't understand. Due to misunderstandings and inaccuracies made by the media,(everything from news reports to movies for example) our society's view has been distorted, which has created stigma about certain mental illnesses. DEFINITION OF STIGMA: a mark of disgrace or infamy; a stain or reproach, as on one's reputation. DEFINITION OF MENTAL ILLNESS: n. Any of various conditions characterized by impairment of an individual's normal cognitive, emotional, or behavioral functioning, and caused by social, psychological, biochemical, genetic, or other factors, such as infection or head trauma. Also called emotional illness, mental disease, mental disorder. 'dictionary.com' Bottom line is that we all must get more educated and stop using our fears as excuses. Cures for Mental Illness

Please don't think I believe this crap. People often do get better and become free of any mental disorder symptoms but psychiatry doesn't acknowledge that. In the world of psychiatry, what cures exist for mental illness. You are about to find out. This video references the top authorities of mental health in the United States. So, we have all these mental illnesses like depression, OCD, bipolar, ADHD, social anxiety disorder, Asperger's Syndrome, anorexia, and the list goes on. So, we prescribe all these drugs to people that are diagnosed with one or more of these mental disorders. Like antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor or Wellbutrin. SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are often promoted as correcting chemical imbalances in the brain but there is no proof that depression or mental illness is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain nor is there any proof that antidepressants correct an imbalance. Medications like Ritalin, Concerta, Adderall, Dexedrine, Strattera, Focalin and Metadata for ADHD. All have undesirable side effects and can damage a person's organs. Often extreme states of mind like schizophrenia are drugged with antipsychotic medications such as Risperdal, Zyprexa, Seroquel, Geodon, Haldol, Thorazine, Stelazine and Clozaril. All of these drugs are used to control symptoms only. They are not cure for mental disorders. They all have an unknown mechanism of action. Some have side effects and adverse events ...

Mental Illnesses in Japan - Background - Zeplin in Tokyo #4

I'll be talking a bit about the views on mental illnesses in japan, such as depression and other mental disorders, and how japanese people react to them.General info: My channel, TokyoZeplin, focuses on my experiences as a gaijin, a foreigner, living (or lived as of now) in Tokyo, Japan. While a lot of my videos are not facts about Japan, but rather my personal experiences in Japan, mostly Tokyo, a few of them do pop up. My topics range from prostitution in Japan, Japanese porn (no, not really), womens rights in Japan, working conditions in Tokyo, japanese hostesses and their culture, japanese history and culture in general, and much more. Now and then I help people learn japanese, especially japanese slang, though not a lot since there are a lot of tools for learn japanese online. But since I rarely went outside Tokyo, this is really mostly about Tokyo Japan, as my name indicates.

Recovery: Schizophrenia & Mental Illness -- Psychology

Be My Friend - www.myspace.com Recovery: Schizophrenia & Mental Illness -- Psychology People recovery from schizophrenia & severe mental disorders The assumption in psychiatry that "mental illness" is permanent is untrue. Many mental health problems such as depression, bipolar episodes, anxiety & psychosis are simply temporary acute states of mind which a person can fully recovery from. Is Mental Illness Contagious? - Ethan Watters

Complete video at: fora.tv Journalist Ethan Watters speculates about the contagiousness of mental illness, citing the hysteria that afflicted thousands of women during the Victorian era. "This is a matter of the unconscious mind, at any moment of time and culture, looking to speak the language of suffering for its moment in time," he says. ----- American culture is homogenizing the way the world goes mad. Our exportation of everything from movies to junk food is a well-documented phenomenon. But neither our golden arches nor our bomb craters represent our most troubling impact on the world: the bulldozing of the human mind itself. In Crazy Like Us, leading trend-spotter and science writer Ethan Watters shows that we are not only changing the way the world treats and understands mental illness, we are actually changing the symptoms and prevalence of the diseases themselves. - Hillside Club Ethan Watters is the author of Urban Tribes, an examination of the mores of affluent "never marrieds" and the coauthor of Making Monsters, a groundbreaking indictment of the recovered memory movement. A frequent contributor to The New York Times Magazine, Discover, Men's Journal, Details, Wired, and NPR, he has appeared on such national media as "Good Morning America," "Talk of the Nation," and CNN. His latest book is Crazy Like Us: The Globalization of the American Psyche.
