Migration (Original Composition)

Migration (Original Composition), by TJ Morgan This is the second track from my album, Beyond This Road. It's probably my most cinematic song, especially the last minute or so. If you like it and want to hear more, check out my album, which is available from most major digital music distributors: itunes.apple.com www.amazon.com www.cdbaby.com Disclaimer: What you are hearing is the studio version from my album. I was going to upload just the track with a photo but I thought a "play-along" performance would serve as a more interesting visual that a static album cover (see manor road vid). Unless you see a similar disclaimer, you can assume that all of my other performance uploads do not have prerecorded sound. -TJ

Great Migrations

Move or die. Survive as one. National Geographic Channel's Great Migrations gives the word "move" a whole new meaning. This seven-part global programming event takes viewers around the world on the arduous journeys millions of animals undertake to ensure the survival of their species. Shot from land and air, in trees and cliff-blinds, on ice floes and underwater, Great Migrations tells the formidable stories of many of the planet's species and their movements, while revealing new scientific discoveries with breathtaking high-definition clarity. The miraculous red crab migration on Christmas Island. Flying foxes in Australia and army ants in Costa Rica. Wildebeest, great white sharks, zebra and Mali elephants. Microscopic plankton and jellyfish in Indonesia. The first radio transmitter attached to a monarch butterfly. The first film crew on the ground in Sudan in 25 years, there to capture the migration of the white-eared kob. The beauty of these stories is underscored by new knowledge of these species' fragile existence and their life-and-death quest for survival in an ever-changing world. The all-National Geographic Great Migrations team spent two and a half years in the field, travelling 670000 kilometres in 120 countries and all seven continents to bring this spectacular first-of-its-kind production to life. www.natgeotv.com.au

DeepShot - Migrating tasks across devices using mobile phone cameras

Deep Shot is a framework for capturing a user's work state that is needed for a task (eg, the specific part of a webpage being viewed) and resuming it on a different device. In particular, Deep Shot supports two novel and intuitive interaction techniques, deep shooting and deep posting, for pulling and pushing work states, respectively, using a mobile phone camera. A user takes a picture of the screen of her computer and then sees the application with the current state on her phone. Our system recognizes the application that the user is looking through the camera, automatically migrates it onto the mobile phone, and recovers its state.

Stay: Migration and poverty in rural Mexico

The unauthorized immigrant population in the United States has tripled from 3.5 million people in 1990 to more than 11 million in 2010. Stepped-up patrols along the border with Mexico—the source of 60 percent of unauthorized immigrants—has had little impact. Why? Border enforcement does not get to the root of why people leave their home countries: to escape poverty. In 2009, 96 percent of US foreign assistance to Mexico was spent on military and drug enforcement. Investing in rural areas instead can help reduce the pressure to migrate.

The Great Migration Part 1

Each year more than one million wildebeest and zebra invade the Serengeti grasslands, making it a paradise for the predators that live there. But what happens when the herds move off again? We follow the moving story of one lion family's struggle to survive until the return of the great migration. Nature's Great Events tells the story of the epic trek of herds that follow the rains to fresh pastures, and the tale of the predators they leave behind. The crew captures the desperate plight of a single pride of lions, revealing a different side to the Serengeti. Rather than being a predators' paradise, it is a land in constant change, with wildebeest following the rains and leaving the lions to tough it out. The Ntudu pride has seven cubs, and is already suffering as the wildebeest leave to find fresh pastures. The four pride females struggle to find enough food for their hungry offspring. As weeks turn to months, the pride members become more emaciated and frailer, and the number of cubs dwindles to just two. As the herds begin to return, the plains reveal one final secret. For the first time since 1967 the Serengeti's only active volcano, Ol Doinyo Lengai, begins to billow ash and smoke. Filmed from the air, the team captures the exciting action. Fertilised by the volcanic ash over millions of years, these short grass plains are among the most productive grasslands in the world. After months of hardship, the pride's tragic story, through sickness, drought and fire, is over ...
