Meant to redefine modern classic, the 2+2 is a stunning piece of engineering and design. We went to the OC Fairgrounds Custom Car Show and decided to make a custom auto slide show. The 4th GOODGUYS Orange County Get Together 2010 had TONS of classic automobiles from 50's roadsters to Custom built muscle cars like Modified Camaros and Novas, Low riders like El caminos. I saw a crazy orange custom Studebaker front end with an El Camino rear end. Even a Funny car that hopped around the fairgrounds. Modern hot rods and custom luxury cars were plenty. Custom Classic Trucks Steve Greene, from Coconut Grove, Florida, is retired from his wholesale food distribution business and is now enjoying the good life, playing with several interesting vehicles in the stable, acquired over the years. An active enthusiast, Steve is used to very cool cars, like his supercharged 2010 Camaro and 2010 ZR1 Corvette in the driveway. This 1959 Chevrolet Apache, however, was a real departure from the norm. It was found by Steve's son-in-law, Robert Breeden, on Craigslist in San Diego. The idea of a vintage truck was just different enough to be intriguing, so Steve bought the truck and had it shipped East. The distinctive looking Apache was in fair shape when it arrived but Greene is serious about his vehicles; the '59 needed a few personalizing touches before it was ready to take its place in the family garage. Steve already had great success with a fabrication shop called Miranda Built in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Owner, Jeremy Miranda and his team had already worked on his Steve's Camaro. In addition to modern customs, they specialize in reinventing classics from yesteryear, using an infusion of modern technology. After agreeing on a build plan, a list of mods was prepared for the Apache, beginning with new chassis elements to upgrade the truck's 50-year-old technology. John Beltz was Oldsmobile's chief engineer in 1964 and one of the prime movers of the Toronado and 442 project. Beltz was promoted to Oldsmobile general manager at age 43 in 1969 when Harold N. Metzel retired. Beltz passed away in May of 1972 from cancer at the age of 46. John Beltz is leaning on a dual fan 455 Olds and posing with other experimental Olds engines that never saw production. Here are descriptions of these engines: 1. The 0W-43 all aluminum 455 with 4 valve per cylinders, four overhead cam Weber engine. With a redline of just under 8500rpm it was originally conceived for CAN AM racing. At 3000rpm it put out 300hp and at 6000rpm registered over 600hp. The top output recorded for this engine in the Lansing dyno facility was 700 real hp at 6800rpm. Tests were run with both carbueration and fuel injection. The block was cast from Reynolds 356 alloy and fitted with pressed-in dry steel cylinder liners for the Forged-True 12.20to 1 pistons. Billet steel connecting rods by Carillo was used along with a forged steel crank. The engine weighed in at 50 pounds lighter than the production 455 motor! It was developed at the same time as the ZL-1 Chevy 427 motor. 2. The W-43 4 valve per cylinder 455 developed by JOHN BELTZ , LLOYD GILL , JOE JONES AND FRANK BALL. Rated at 500-550hp with a single Rochester Quadrajet on an aluminum manifold. The priorities shown in the details in the construction of the grill, are at odds with the lack of a sun visor for the passenger. Still this car has personality and that is more than can be said of so many modern "appliances"

Ford has revived the 1964-1966 Mustang. It's not as simple as walking into a dealership and ordering the classic Ford Mustang but you can buy a new body-shell of the first-generation model (the convertible too) and begin to 'restore' it yourself using Ford-approved classic parts. Prices for the 1965 Ford Mustang body shell start at $15000. The new shell uses modern steel and welding techniques that makes it actually stronger and more durable than the original.
