UNITY [GameCube Beta Demo - UNRELEASED!] V2

www.unseen64.net Designer Jeff Minter, of Defender and Tempest 2000 fame, has teamed up with Peter Molyneux (Black & White) to deliver an abstract 3D music shooter for GameCube. Part game, part light machine, Unity takes place in swirling, morphing vortex-like wormholes. The environment changes in accordance to the game's music. Relying heavily on techno music, Unity creates psychedelic pathways whose colors and shape bend and warp based on the tempo and beat of the music. It's unclear how much of the game is based off of Minter's VLM technology, but it seems likely that the layout of each wormhole will change every time you play. In December 2004, developer Llama Soft and publisher Lionhead Studios announced that Unity had been cancelled. cube.ign.com

Dead Phoenix [GameCube Prototype - CANCELLED!]

www.unseen64.net Dead Phoenix was unveiled as a third-person flight game. You'd take on the role of an angelic, winged man armed with massive guns. The trailer sparked even more salivating. It could be inferred from the trailer that it was an action heavy title. The main character appears to fight along side other troops, destroying hordes of monsters and gigantic bosses (which resemble giant lizards like triceratopses and dragons). The hero's arm also appeared to continually evolve into different forms of an energy cannon (similar to Vash the Stampede) -- eventually transforming the main character into a phoenix. The only other details were revealed during Capcom's initial presentation. Dead Phoenix took place on a flying island that was constantly evolving and changing. The main goal of this project was to allow you to "freely fly like a bird into a world of epic proportions." Capcom wanted the flying to be so good that you'd actually be able to feel the wind beneath your wings. With all the hype surrounding Dead Phoenix, it was quite a shock at the 2003 Electronic Entertainment Expo when Inaba's new project didn't make an appearance -- even the elusive Killer 7 was shown in video form. Since the trailer hinted at a few technical problems regarding control and camera and Katou stated that Dead Phoenix was continually changing, it was suspected that Capcom was waiting for a concrete build before showing the title. However, as the summer passed and there was no new news <b>...</b>

Kirby Adventure [GameCube Beta Trailer - UNRELEASED!]

www.unseen64.net "Kirby's first full-scale action game for Nintendo GameCube arrives with a variety of modes, including a wild multiplayer adventure. The story begins when Kirby sets out to get the stolen Warpstar back from King Dedede. It's tough going for Kirby when he's on his own...so it's a good thing he can catch a ride on the backs of his helpers. Utilizing a new attack system, Kirby can gain power by riding on up to three helpers. The more helpers, the more powerful the attack. It's up to Kirby to save the beautiful world of Dream Land." "Nintendo announced a new Kirby GameCube title seemingly out of nowhere this past week, without actually revealing details on how the game will end up playing. Today, we've got just one revealing bit of news the game will offer play for up to four players." cube.ign.com

Yoshi's Island 64 [Yoshi's Story - Beta] Nintendo 64 - 1996

www.unseen64.net First Look at Yoshi 64 Shoshinkai proved furtive ground for little bits of goodness like this clip of Yoshi's Island 64 December 2, 1996 - Yoshi's Island 64, once just a rumor, is now a reality. Or at least damn close to it. At Nintendo's 8th Annual Shoshinkai last week, Nintendo Co. Ltd. previewed a short movie of the game on its giant video screen kitty corner to the press room. The game appears to be a lush, lively, polygonally animated title with a vibrant color palate and characters familiar to those appearing in previous Yoshi and Mario games. What has not been announced by Nintendo is whether the game will appear on the 64DD or not (or whether it'll be on cart or disk). And, of course, Nintendo didn't include any literature at the show, nor did its execs include the game on the first half, 1997 line-up. Yoshi's Island 64 (working title), unfortunately, appears to a nostalgic title, harking back to PlayStation's Rayman or even Saturn's Bug!, both of which were "3D games," but only in look, and not in gameplay. The side-scrolling action looks disappointingly familiar, with Yoshi bouncing off giant ferns and leaves, and smacking bad guys on the head. http

Unreal [1996 Tech Demo / Proto]

www.unseen64.net "Originally, Unreal was going to be a Quake-style shooter—earlier screens showed a large status bar and centered weapons, similar to Doom and Quake. The main character was also going to be a woman, however in the final version the main character's gender is selectable in the game's "player setup" screen, though the default is a female character named Gina. One of the weapons shown in early screenshots was the "Quadshot"—a four-barreled shotgun. The model remains in-game, while there is no code for the weapon to function. Another weapon shown was a different pistol, however this may have just been an early version of the Automag. At one point the rifle could fire three shots at once, which is wrongly stated as the alternate fire in the Unreal manual that comes with the Unreal Anthology. As development progressed, various levels were cut from development. A few of these levels reappeared in the Return to Na Pali expansion pack. A number of enemies from early versions are present in the released software but with variations and improvements to their look. One monster that didn't make the cut was a dragon." - wikipedia

Shantae Advance [GBA Beta Demo - UNRELEASED!]

www.unseen64.net March 14, 2003 - Handheld game developer Way Forward has revealed the first screenshots of its in-development Game Boy Advance game, a sequel to its Game Boy Color platformer, Shantae. You may recall way back during the days of the Game Boy Color, the developer gave us a first look at the Game Boy Color version of Shantae, easily one of the most graphically advanced platformer to hit the Game Boy Color system. Unfortunately, it released after the launch of the Game Boy Advance, which most likely attributed to the game's limited release in the handheld market. This GBA platformer is a follow-up to the GBC adventure, featuring a similar graphics style but utilizing the Game Boy Advance hardware's more powerful capabilities. This sequel, tentatively titled Shantae Advance, features a larger quest than the original, with more labyrinths, more enemies, and more locations to explore. Shantae Advance will feature advance gameplay mechanics where players will have to move Shantae from the foreground to the background planes in this side-scrolling environment in order to accomplish specific tasks. And just like the original platformer, players will have to utilize Shantae's transforming capabilities to get through the challenges; players can change into a bird, elephant, monkey, or mermaid so they can fly, dig, climb and swim through the different levels. The Game Boy Advance platformer will even include a four player battle mode that only requires one copy of the <b>...</b>

The Indestructibles [by Bullfrog - PC CANCELLED!]

www.unseen64.net "It was going to be a 3D game with deformable terrain, which meant that you could toss cars into buildings and so on. You'd control one or more heroes and the game was intended to be pretty free form. The game design hinged on some advanced skeletal modeling technology that Bullfrog was touting for The Indestructibles and other games, like Gene Wars. Essentially, this technology would deliver deformable objects that would obey the internal laws of physics programmed into the game and allow objects to be deformed and rendered on the fly. [...] For The Indestructibles it meant that players would be able to design their own heroes and affect the terrain in creative ways. Unfortunately, Bullfrog couldn't pull the technology out of their magic hat, and the games we did see, such as Gene Wars, ended up being disappointing and derivative instead of innovative. The game went through a wild roller coaster while at Bullfrog. First it was going, then it was killed, then it was back on again, then it was killed. The gist is that the game couldn't reach a cohesive direction and was ultimately killed." http
