Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata (animated score, 1st mvt.) piano solo

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) Q:Can I get free sheet music for this piece? A: Yes, you can download the score shown in the video from here: www.musanim.com Q: What do the colors in the bar-graph score mean? A: The colors indicate the "pitch class" of the notes; that is, every C# is a certain color (blue), every E is a certain color (olive green), etc. The piece is in the key of C# minor, so there's lots of blue and green, especially at the beginning and end. The choice of colors is based on the "circle of fifths," which you can read about here: en.wikipedia.org This method of coloring notes is described more here: www.musanim.com Because this form of coloring reflects tonality, the places where the piece moves into another key are easily visible; here's a picture of the whole piece: www.musanim.com BTW, the colors are more distinct in the high-quality version of the video. Q: Who is playing? Who are you? How long have you been playing the piano? A: See this: www.musanim.com Q: I want to learn to play the piano; what advice can you give me? A: I've put some suggestions here: www.musanim.com Q: What did this sheet music look like back in Beethoven's time? A: Here is a facsimile of the first edition, printed in 1802. www.musanim.com Q: What do the light/dark areas in the bar-graph score show? A: They show the effect of the damper pedal. Q: What do the x's in the score mean? A: Those are double-sharps. A sharp goes up one semitone (F to F-sharp) and a double sharp goes up ...

Beethoven - Moonlight (FULL) - Piano Sonata No. 14

Facebook page: www.facebook.com Paul Pitman The Piano Sonata No. 14 in C♯ minor "Quasi una fantasia", op. 27, No. 2, by Ludwig van Beethoven The sonata has three movements: Adagio sostenuto. Allegretto (click to go at 6:00 min). Presto agitato (click to go at 8:05 min). Adagio sostenuto The first movement, in C♯ minor, is written in an approximate truncated sonata form. The movement opens with an octave in the left hand and a triplet figuration in the right. A melody that Hector Berlioz called a "lamentation", mostly by the right hand, is played against an accompanying ostinato triplet rhythm, simultaneously played by the right hand. The movement is played pianissimo or "very quietly", and the loudest it gets is mezzo forte or "moderately loud". The adagio sostenuto has made a powerful impression on many listeners; for instance, Berlioz said of it that it "is one of those poems that human language does not know how to qualify. The work was very popular in Beethoven's day, to the point of exasperating the composer himself, who remarked to Carl Czerny, "Surely I've written better things. Allegretto The second movement is a relatively conventional scherzo and trio, a moment of relative calm written in D-flat major, the enharmonic equivalent of C♯ major, the more easily-notated parallel major of C♯ minor. Franz Liszt described the second movement as "a flower between two chasms."[citation needed] The slight majority of the movement is in piano, but a handful of sforzandos ...

How to Play Moonlight Sonata Part 1 - Piano Tutorial

Part 1 of Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven in C# minor. Hey guys, hope you enjoy part one. Please leave me some notes on how to improve my tutorial videos - Any comments are appreciated. Here are all the notes for Part 1. This should be used in conjunction with the video as this will probably be hard to follow if just read by itself. I'm hoping this isn't too complicated; if it is please let me know and then I'll try to make it better. Notes to the left of the slash are what the left hand plays and what's right of the slash are what the right hand plays. Notes that are together with no commas in between are to be played together (as can be seen by octaves in the left hand). If there is a dash to the left of the slash, nothing is played in the left hand. When there is a x2 or x4 with the notes, only the right hand is to be played that many times. Hopefully this can be of help, if not I'll try to make it easier to understand. :) C#C# / G#, C#, E x4 BB / G#, C#, E x4 AA / A, C#, E x2 F#F# / A, D, F# x2 G#G# / G#, C, F# - / G#, C#, E G#G# / G#, C#, D# - / F#, C, D# C#G#C# / E, G#, C# - / G#, C#, E x2 - / G#G#, C#, E, (high)G# CG#C / G#G#, D#, F# - / G#, D#, F# x2 - / G#G#, D#, F#, (high)G# C#C# / G#G#, C#, E - / G#, C#, E F#F# / AA, C#, F# - / A, C#, F# BB / G#G#, B, E - / G#, B, E BB / AF#, B, D# - / AB (long stretch), B, D#

It was written for piano, of course, because the electric cello had yet to be invented... "I used both of my 5-string electric cellos (one tuned extra high and one extra low) and the acoustic cellos to give this piece a unique feel and a high level of emotion. I used another melody from Beethoven -- try and guess what it is (guess before you scroll down to the credits where it is listed!) It starts at 1:21 and reoccurs throughout the tune. This melody happened spontaneous in the studio and saved the tune from a bad case of writer's block." -Steven Sharp Nelson Credits Music produced by Al van der Beek & Steven Sharp Nelson Written and performed by Steven Sharp Nelson Inspired by Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" and the melody from Beethoven's 7th Symphony, 2nd movement (Allegretto) Recorded, mixed & mastered by Al van der Beek at TPG Studios Video produced by Paul ...

Moonlight Sonata, Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor by Ludwig Van Beethoven

The Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor "Quasi una fantasia", Op. 27, No. 2, by Ludwig van Beethoven, popularly known as the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German), was completed in 1801.[1] It is rumored to be dedicated to his pupil, 17-year-old[2] Countess Giulietta Guicciardi,[3] with whom Beethoven was, or had been, in love.[4] The name "Moonlight" Sonata derives from an 1832 description of the first movement by music critic Ludwig Rellstab, who compared it to moonlight shining upon Lake Lucerne.[1][5] Beethoven included the phrase "Quasi una fantasia" (Italian: Almost a fantasy)[6] in the title partly because the sonata does not follow the traditional sonata pattern where the first movement is in regular sonata form, and where the three or four movements are arranged in a fast-slow-[fast]-fast sequence. Instead, the Moonlight sonata possesses an end-weighted trajectory; the climax is held off until the third movement. To be sure, the deviation from traditional sonata form is intentional. In his analysis of the Moonlight sonata, German critic Paul Bekker states that The opening sonata-allegro movement gave the work a definite character from the beginningwhich succeeding movements could supplement but not change. Beethoven rebelled against this determinative quality in the first movement. He wanted a prelude, an introduction, not a proposition.[7] By placing the most dramatic form (sonata form) at the end of the piece, Beethoven could magnify the drama inherent ...

This is a real time video. Relax, tranquil music under the moonlight as you listen to one the most romantically peaceful musical compositions of all time, Beethoven's 'Moonlight' Sonata No.14 in C sharp Minor Op.27 No.2. The tempo of the piano music matching perfectly the dancing moonlight on the waters surface. (Claro de Luna or Clair de Lune). This instrumental classical music is perfect music for relaxation. The lake where I filmed this very tranquil scene is called lough Gill, which is perfectly matched with the Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven. This lake runs between County Leitrim and Sligo in the northwest of Ireland. It is probably most famously known by a poem entitled 'The Lake Isle of Innisfree" by William Butler Yeats. This is a little video i threw together in 10 minutes as a tribute to Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor , or Moonlight Sonata if you prefer and to our nearest solar system neighbour, the Moon. I have liked this tune, originally penned by the great composer Ludwig Van Beethoven ever since it first caught my attention in 1996 in Resident Evil when Jill Valentine had to remember how to play it to open a doorway in the mansion. Great days. I find that the tune itself is very calming and relaxing and it gives me great pleasure to listen to it. I hope you enjoy it as much as i do.

Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata

This mystifying piece whose beauty somewhat haunts, is unusual in not being accompanied with any of my photographs. For perhaps obvious reasons, my rather humble camera has not been able to capture any video-worthy shots of the Moon. Also, as this well-known piece conjures up so many different images for people, I decided to choose one online picture similar to my own interpretation of the piece. Formally known as Piano Sonata No.14, it wasn't until 1832, 31 years after completion that a critic compared the piece to moonlight shining upon Lake Lucerne (Germany). The piece however is rumoured to be a dedication to the composer's pupil, Countess Giulietta Guicciardi, whom he had loved. Beethoven himself gave the sonata the name "Quasi una Fantasia" (or "Almost a Fantasy") as it didn't follow the conventional tempo of its movements. Critic, Paul Bekker described this as, "The opening sonata-allegro movement gave the work a definite character from the beginning... which succeeding movements could supplement but not change. Beethoven rebelled against this determinative quality in the first movement. He wanted a prelude, an introduction, not a proposition." Whatever your interpretation of this piece, it's mystery, or fantasy quality, has enabled it to be just as poignant to the listener today, as it was over 200 years ago.

Lovely piano arrangement of How Great Thou Art with Moonlight Sonata by Phyllis Morgan Chetakian. Phyllis began playing piano by ear at the early age of 3 years, when one Sunday afternoon, she sat down at her grandmother's piano and played a hymn that had been sung that day in church. Over the years, she has performed as a concert pianist and also toured with and accompanied Norma Zimmer (the Champagne Lady of Lawrence Welk) and Thurl Ravenscroft (aka Tony the Tiger and vocalist in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Moonlight Sonata, Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor Ludwig van Beethoven

Moonlight Sonata, Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor - Ludwig van Beethoven The Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor "Quasi una fantasia", Op. 27, No. 2, popularly known as the Moonlight Sonata, is a piano sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven. Completed in 1801 and dedicated in 1802 to his pupil, Countess Giulietta Guicciardi, it is one of Beethoven's most popular compositions for the piano. The first edition of the score is headed Sonata quasi una fantasia, a title this work shares with its companion piece, Op. 27, No. 1. Grove Music Online translates the Italian title as "sonata in the manner of a fantasy". The name "Moonlight Sonata" has its origins in remarks by the German music critic and poet Ludwig Rellstab. In 1832, five years after Beethoven's death, Rellstab likened the effect of the first movement to that of moonlight shining upon Lake Lucerne. Within ten years, the name "Moonlight Sonata" ("Mondscheinsonate" in German) was being used in German and English publications. Later in the nineteenth century, it could be said that the sonata was "universally known" by that name. Many critics have objected to the subjective, Romantic nature of the title "Moonlight", which has at times been called "a misleading approach to a movement with almost the character of a funeral march" and "absurd". Other critics have approved of the sobriquet, finding it evocative or in line with their own associations with the work. Gramophone founder Compton Mackenzie found the title "harmless ...
