The Young Leaders Media Summit gave participants an exciting opportunity to learn about the ins and outs of the news media industry while experiencing the fast pace of life in the Big Apple. Over four days, aspiring journalists and new media producers met with prominent executives and reporters at top news outlets and get hands-on experience in telling stories. They'll also explored how social media has forced news agencies to evolve and learn about the processes of covering worldwide events from elections to revolutions.

MPAC music represents change. It symbolizes a transition in history from conventional conservative methods of expression to more powerful identity-forming methods of self-awareness. Music has the ability to build or destroy the minds, morals, and ethical values of its listeners. Today's youth, as others of the past, are greatly drawn toward this form of expression. Although, it often guides listeners to positive, its reputation in mainstream society is one of filth, demoralization, and violence. Though many constructive songs and raps have breached this seemingly impenetrable empire, it is needless to say, the bad views have out weighed the good. MPAC music gears itself toward releasing rap and other forms of music that are positive and educational, while being presented as powerful and attractive to today's youth Muslim communities. Being Muslim does not imply being out of touch with one's surroundings. It does, however, encompass presenting oneself with an art form of morality and spirituality.
In its 5th year, the Young Leaders Government Summit provided top college and graduate students an insider look at the inner workings of the nation's capitol while simultaneously providing government officials and congressional leaders the opportunity to learn what is on the minds of young Muslim Americans. Over the course of six days, delegates get a rare opportunity to meet with senior officials in federal agencies, members of Congress, directors of think tanks, and other prominent individuals and discuss current policy issues while also exploring career opportunities.

this is a track from a recording i produced in the netherlands a few years ago for challange records entitled life on uranus. it was recorded in berkeley, caifornia at fantasy studios and features the west coast wing of what was at that time called the nova ghost sect*tet. some of the featured artist include the wonderfull vocalist diane witherpoon; from the bands of sun ra and cecil taylor is eddie gale on trumpet; guitarists stan-lee-franks and calvin keys; the keyboards of muziki roberts and michale aberg;josh jones and the ever present bob braye on traps; and myself on tenor saxophone as well as providing the composition and lyrics. the cd also features some of the best players from there in the netherlands like wolter wierbos on trombone; franky douglas on guitar; robert rook on piano; remco van der sluis on traps and saskia laroo on trumpet. it's really a beautiful project and it's ashame the record company chose not to promot it because it was one of the fineist recordings of the decade; like bobby huthcerson says:same shame. thanks to the tech wizards there at you tube i can now make it accessible to an interested public that does not have commercial interest as a 1st priority...

Meet Faran Tahir, a Pakistani American actor you may recognize from such blockbuster films as Iron Man and Star Trek. Tahir is a third generation actor. He originally attended UC Berkeley with plans to get a business degree, but ended up creating his own major to pursue acting. He then received a graduate degree from Harvard. Tahir has guest starred on many television shows, including 24, Lost, Chuck, and most recently, Greys Anatomy. It was his role as a Muslim character named Isaac on Greys Anatomy that caught MPACs attention. Tahir and the writers of Greys Anatomy will be honored at the MPAC Media Awards on Saturday May 1 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. During the 2nd year of the Young Leaders Hollywood Summit in Los Angeles, young American Muslims explored the role film, TV and the arts play in shaping public opinion and were provided practical tips for transforming talent into a successful career. Located in the capitol of the entertainment industry, the Summit gave young Muslim Americans the opportunity to learn about the magic behind the camera from scriptwriting to acting to directing, as well as the opportunity to meet network and studio executives, talent managers and screenwriters. With more and more emerging Muslim American artists entering Hollywood, this was a perfect opportunity for young artists who want to explore, or break into, the "biz."

The Muslim Public Affairs Council launched the "Count Me In" Census 2010 campaign on October of 2009 in order to ensure, "hard-to-count" communities such as the Arab, South Asian, and Iranian communities are completed counted. A complete count will make our communities visible to politicians to advocate effectively for our concerns.
