While experimenting with a new camcorder, we forgot that a fred car had been removed from a train. The first installation in a well car was unbalanced and the car tipped over on the first curve. A quick trip back to the shops and the camcorder was fitted to a depressed well car. Needless to say, that missinbg fred car was long forgotten by then.

InterMountain has released an HO scale model of the latest GE locomotive, the ES44AC. Unfortunately, the InterMountain does not run well with other DC, nonsound locomotives by Athearn, Atlas, Genesis, Kato, for example. I rewired this locomotive and I call it an ES44ACXX. This video shows it testing on the Great Train Story Ho scale layout at MSI-Chicago. The speed is much faster but it may have another problem, pulling loads uphill. Further study is needed.

More BW dubs from the 1970s. Our Howard B "L" is about to leave the State ST Subway and join the north side mainline elevated. Note the semaphore signals at Clark JCT and at Howard Terminal. The train we are on is an 8 car 6000 PCs made from components of PCC streetcars. The cars arrived in the moddle 50s from the St Louis Car Company. The color scheme was the alpine green with off white to match the recently received Pullman 2000 high performance cars that opened the Lake ZStreet elevation.

For the 18th year commuters, shoppers, families, and Santa fans were treated to the lights, sounds, colors, and decorations, of the CTA Holiday Train, a seven car rolling festival that travels on every "L" line in the area. Six cars carry passengers while a flat car hosting Christmas trees, reindeer, and a deluxe red sleigh carrying St. Nick himself make up the train decorated by volunteers who start in late summer.

There are 20 Acela Express trainsets. They are six cars long. There is also a track geometry car housed in a spare end business car and when entrained...this makes for a seven car Acela EXPRESS TRAINSET THAT RUNS IN REGULAR SERVICE. While carrying passengers, the geometry car might be occupied doing its work or it could be empty, just going along for the ride.

For 19 years the Chicago Transit Authority has operated a decorated "L" train during the Christmas shopping season. The Holiday Train includes six passenger cars and a flat car complete with a Santa sleigh, Christmas trees, reindeer, and of course, Santa Claus himself. The train operates on every line during the season and published schedules make it easy for interested parties to see the train in person. Add to them the thousands who catch a glimpse of the train purely by coincedence, and you have quite an appreciative audience.

Its only 15 X 15 ft, but I like to say the Acela HO scale train layout gives "More Bang For The Buck by modelling the gritty urban scenery of the Northeast US that hosts the fastest train in North America, the 150 MPH Amtrak Acela Express. A model of the Amtrak electrified Northeast Corridor must have overhead catenary and the scratch built Pennsy style overhead is also the most expensive layout feature, save the travelling cases that allow the layout to be shipped in a baggage car. The layout has beome a regular at some of the largest train shows, including Trainfest, Amherst, iHobby-Expo and the NMRA National.

When Union Pacific vice president Bill Wimmer travelled to Chicago to receive an industry award, he exercised his exeuctive privileges and powered his private train with Union Pacific's Heritage Centennial DDA40X diesel locomotive.
