The New Testament Canon

The historic Christian belief is that the Holy Spirit, who controlled the writing of the individual books of the bible, also controlled their inclusion in the canon. Many Christians seem to think that the bible, in its current form has existed for thousands of years. Although this might be a comforting belief, history shows that it isn't true. This is the second video in a series on the Canon of Scripture.

Was the New Testament Forged? Bart Ehrman vs Darrell Bock

premier.org.uk - Sceptical Bible scholar Bart Ehrman's latest book "Forged" claims that many of the writings of the New Testament are falsely attributed to apostles such as Peter and Paul. He claims that they were not written by them and that a deliberate deception was taking place. Darrell Bock of Dallas Theological Seminary responds, saying that the case for forgery is not as conclusive as Bart claims. They examine the evidence for whether 1 and 2 Peter were written by Peter as well as letters attributed to Paul such as Ephesians and 2 Thessolonians.

History of the New Testament I The Great Courses

www.thegreatcourses.com I would like to welcome you to this course on the New Testament. I'm Bart Ehrman, Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where I have been teaching courses on the New Testament and early Christianity for the past 11 years. I have been engaged in the academic study of the New Testament for 25 years, and I must say that even though my views of the New Testament have changed rather drastically since I was a student in college, my fascination for this book has never waned. The New Testament is probably the most revered and the most unknown book in our culture. This course of lectures is designed for people who want to learn something about it. Both people who don't know a lot about the New Testament but think that it is time that they did, and people who have studied the New Testament, who want to see what an academic approach to the New Testament might look like. Virtually all modern historians would agree that the New Testament has been the most significant book in the history of Western civilization. It lies at the root of our form of culture, and it continues to be an object of reverence and inspiration for millions of Christians today. A book that governs people's personal lives—that shapes their religious views, that provides them with the sense of hope. If you want to understand our culture, you have to know something about the New Testament. For all these reasons this book is worth our serious and ...

Is There a Such Thing as a "New Testament Only Christian"?

"Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill." - Jesus Christ (Matthew 5:17) Here our Lord speaks of fulfilling the law and the prophets. Well, since they're fulfilled, where do you find this law and these prophets? You find them in the Old Testament. There are some that say that "I'm a New Testament Only Christian" implying that they adhere only to what is written in the New Testament, but repeatedly the New Testament alludes back to the Old to bring clarity. They are not two seperate books, but make up one whole. In this clip from God's Law and Society by Eric Holmberg and The Apologetics Group, this issue is discussed. You can get this full length DVD at The Apologetics Group's Official Website www.theapologeticsgroup.com .
