Chic Eats - Cafeteria - New York Restaurants - on Voyage.tv

Visit www.voyage.tv for more hotel profiles and travel videos. Open 24 hours, seven days a week, Cafeteria has been a much-hyped celeb haunt since it open in 1998 and continues to offer the best in free New York entertainment people watching. The owners goal is simple enough: to provide guests with a feel-good dining experience: gourmet comfort food served in a sophisticated atmosphere, available round the clock. Whether you visit at brunch, lunch, dinner or after a night out, you can relax at a table outside, or cozy up by candlelight indoors. The Menu: Boasting upscale American comfort cuisine, Cafeteria serves everything from eggs to sandwiches to salads. Hearty entrées like meatloaf and fish and chips are balanced out by lighter continental favorites like grilled chicken paillard or atlantic salmon. Classic American desserts with indulgent extras are impossible to resist, such as deep fried oreos or the waffle banana split. Cocktails include the passion fruit caipirinha, the blackberry cardamom margarita and our favorite, the Inferno Bloody Mary, made with jalapeno vodka that's sure to cure a hangover. The Must-Have: After an epic night out, the only thing standing between you and your bed should be a plate of fried chicken and waffles. You'd be silly not to order the Mac Attack (a tasting of three different mac n cheeses), and while youre at it, a side of truffle parmesan fries. After all, its been a long night.

Italian Dine-asty - Cipriani Restaurant New York - on Voyage.tv

The scene reigns supreme at the glamorous SoHo outpost of the famed Cipriani restaurant empire, a sprawling, ground-level loft space with tables spilling out onto the neighborhoods main drag, West Broadway. Being the liveliest of the Cipriani clan of dining establishments and bars, this location can always be counted on for prime people-spotting and high-quality, if a bit expensive, Northern Italian cuisine. But the real reason to be here is the party-like atmosphere, which regularly draws boldface names like Denzel Washington, Gisele Bündchen, Nicole Richie, Leonardo DiCaprio and others. Fabulous Peter Beard photographs of Africa adorn the walls, while a glittering chandelier drips light on the attractive crowd sipping the house drink: the Bellini. Upstairs, the snug, Alpine-ski-lodge-style attic functions as an exclusive members-only club for the famous and the ultra-rich. On Sunday nights, it's home to a supermodel karaoke party, where a who's-who of A-list celebs and other glitterati types get together to guzzle champagne by the magnum and sing their favorite tunes. The Menu: You will find most of the classic Venetian dishes familiar from the other Cipriani restaurants, but downtown offers a few nods to the slim waistlines of fashion-conscious SoHo. Note the special section of the menu dedicated to "gaining weight safely." The lighter treats include burrata di bufala with soft polenta; fresh tomato salad; and tuna salad with cherry tomatoes and capers. If a bulging ...

Hook, Line and Sinker - Lure Restaurant, New York City - on Voyage.tv

Its hard to get more stylish than the fashionistas prowling the trendy streets of SoHo, but Lure Fish Bar's chic, ultra-modern interior comes close. The glitzy subterranean eatery has the feel of a superbly appointed yacht cabin, with a ships distinctively curved ceiling, sensual low lighting, slick, circular leather booths and round, nautical-style windows, ideal for peering up at the elegant heels of the pedestrians on the sidewalk above. The Menu: As the name and the unmistakably seaworthy decor suggest, Chef Josh Capons menu is heavy on seafood, with starters like New England clam chowder, niçoise salad, garlicky lobster croutons and tuna tiraditos in snappy ginger vinaigrette. Notable entrées include mahi mahi tacos in a crispy tortilla shell, an abundant serving of steamed mussels in lemon and white wine and a whole daurade accompanied by dill gnocchi. Theres also top-flight sushi, sashimi, and tempura and a winning raw bar spanning both coasts. The Must Have: While youre almost obligated to order at least one item thats sprung from the sea (the nautical theme is practically daring you not to), you wont be disappointed by sticking closer to shore, either. Lures best-kept secret is a sophisticated burger thats a take on the infamous patties at the In-N-Out chain on the West Coast. Its served on a brioche and is actually more delicious than the better-known burger at Fanellis across the street.

Tuscan Market - Salumeria Rossi - New York City Gourmet Dining - on Voyage.tv

Everyone knows that New York is a melting pot; people from all over the world have brought unique aspects of their homelands to the city, as seen in fashion, design, cultural events, language and heritage. The best part about all this influence, however, is the food! From Chinatown to Curry Hill, New York restaurants offer flavors and cuisines from around the world. Those who want a taste of rustic Italy, and also an authentic lifestyle experience to accompany it, need look no further than Salumeria Rosi on the Upper West Side. It was opened in 2008 by the Rosi family, who for the past 30 plus years have owned and operated Panacotto in Parma, a company producing artisanal quality cured meats. Partnering with chef Cesare Casella, they created this specialty foods shop and tiny restaurant that brings the delicious meats, cheeses and accompaniments of old-world Italy right to the heart of the city. Done in rich wood tones, the relaxed dining room evokes the ambience of a contemporary Osteria. Small plates like Costina (spicy Tuscan spare ribs) and Acciughe Marinate (marinated anchovies) are accompanied by a robust Italian wine list. But, the best way to indulge at Salumeri Rossi, is just as the Italians would: at the meat counter. Proscuitto, pancetta, sausages, salami, speck, mortadella --- if you can pronounce it (or even if you cant), youll be able to try it here and take it home. The knowledgeable and jovial counter staff complete the experience, sharing tastes of the ...

Farm to Table - Mas - New York City Gourmet Dining - on Voyage.tv

Tucked on a winding side street reminiscent of a European city is Mas (farmhouse), a West Village gem distinguished by floor-to-ceiling windows framed by old oak boards. Inside, a warm dining room, which calls to mind a French country home, beckons with sophisticated leather banquettes, white linen tablecloths and handstitched pillows. Owned and operated by James Beard awardwinning chef Galen Zamarra, the cuisine at Mas is based on one of his steadfast beliefs: Eat local, eat in season, and youll end up eating some of the best meals of your life. The Menu: Zamarras menu follows natures lead, changing daily according to what is harvest-fresh each season. The cuisine is defined as New American with a French influence, and draws its fresh ingredients from several local farms and gardens located outside the city. Dainty amuse-bouches set the tone for excellence, and appetizers such as house smoked duck breast with caramelized apples, braised endive and pickled figs layer succulent flavors without overpowering. Entrees include hearty fowl, fresh fish, prime meats and the freshest of vegetables. Top off the meal with a rich cheese plate or inventive and tasty desserts such as the olive oil cake with pine nut emulsion. Ice cream, in flavors such as nectarine, concord grape and blueberry cream cheese, are particularly unique and satisfying. The Must-Have: Each dish is built on Zamarras idea that with great ingredients comes great food, and a changing daily menu ensures that both ...

Bright Lights, Big City - Harbour Lights Restaurant - New York - on Voyage.tv

Visit www.voyage.tv for more hotel profiles and travel videos. The spelling may be British, but this New York restaurant on the waterfront in picturesque South Street Seaport is unmistakably American. The dining room extends out over the East River, offering glittering views of the Brooklyn Bridge, and New York Citys iconic skyline. This is an ideal spot for private parties, receptions and romantic evenings for two. Its really all about the vistas here (the clientele is mostly tourists who wind up here after a day shopping on seaport) and Harbour Lights is one of the few restaurants in the city that affords such a breathtaking postcard-worthy backdrop. The Menu First courses focus on seafood, with a raw bar that offers fresh, sea-salty oysters and meaty shrimp, among others. After that, your biggest challenge is choosing which direction to go: monkfish fricassee or the pasta special like lobster Ravioli? Soy & honey-grilled tuna steak or pan-roasted pork chops? And the sides, which include buttermilk whipped potatoes and garlic and herb roasted risotto, make deciding especially difficult. The Must-Have: At this restaurant, the absolute must-have is not a particular dish, but a particular table. Dining out on the deck with panoramic vistas makes a filet and lobster tail surf-and-turf even more enjoyable, or a shared dish of Seafood Royal (clams, oysters, shrimp, lobster, smoked salmon and tuna tartar) all the more romantic.

New York City Rooftop Farm

It's got a view to die for. Rooftop Farms atop a warehouse in Brooklyn grow more than 30 varieties of organic fruits and vegetables, including heirloom tomatoes, zucchini, aubergines and green onions. While green roofs are nothing new, the sheer scale of the farm in the heart of one of the world's most congested cities is impressive. Lisa Goode is the owner of Rooftop Farms. [Lisa Goode, Owner, Rooftop Farms]: "There's layers of drainage mat and separation fabric — it's all very technical stuff that the dirt actually just goes right on top of. And then you grow stuff in the dirt. But most importantly, a green roof has great environmental benefits such as storm-water reduction, which is a huge problem in New York City. There's cooling for the building and if we can amass enough green roofs, hopefully it will help the heat island issue in New York City too." The biggest problem with designing green roofs, Goode says, is convincing developers they are a good idea. She says there is a misguided perception that they can damage a building's roof. The reverse is true, she says. Greenery can protect a roof membrane from the damaging effects of the sun and cold weather. Andy Darrell, Regional Manager of the Environmental Defense Fund, says another benefit of Rooftop Farms is that it lowers the carbon footprint caused by trucks used to transport food into the city. [Andy Darrell, Regional Manager, Environmental Defense Fund]: "About 70 percent of the air cancer risk in the ...
