As a result Italian Harlem became known as Spanish Harlem or El Barrio. The Lower East Side has been called home by many different ethnic groups of the world. Orchard Street used to be full of affordable and wholesale clothing stores. This street was even named "Bargain District". In the past ten years or so, though, the cheap stores have closed down to leave space to new designer shops, galleries and trendy restaurants and bars. The Bargain District continues to live on along Delancey Street but in a smaller form. Furthermore, the Lower East Side is now a favorite place of many tourists and young-at-heart people who want to experience the New York City night life. Chinatown, New York City - Video tour of Chatham Square, MOCA & Columbus Park

Today David Hill with New York Habitat www.nyhabitat.com is going to show you a fascinating New York neighborhood, Chinatown. Chinatown is located on the East Side of Lower Manhattan. Let's discover makes this area so special. Make sure to check New York Habitat blog for more information about Chinatown http Chatham Square: What better place to start our tour of Chinatown than in Chatham Square. Once a large open air market in the early 1800's, it became a center for tattoo parlors, flophouses, and saloons in the mid 1800's, but today has turned into a major intersection in Chinatown. You'll find the Kimlau Memorial Arch dedicated to Chinese Americans in the name of freedom and democracy. Chinatown's History and Landmarks: On Mott Street, just a few blocks away from Chatam Square, is where in 1858 the Cantonese businessman, Ah Ken, became the first Chinese to immigrate to Chinatown. He eventually opened a successful cigar shop and from that point on, a steady stream of Chinese started settling in the area. When the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was enacted the Chinese population in this small neighborhood exploded. Today Chinatown's population is estimated around 100000. The MoCA: You may have heard of New York's famous museum, the MoMA, but while you're in Chinatown, be sure to visit the MoCA, the Museum of Chinese in America. At the museum, you'll learn more about the history and culture of Chinese America. Columbus Park: Columbus Park is the largest park in ...

The others video tours of New York Habitat are available, so feel free to discover other areas of NYC such as Times Square http or Greenwich Village www.youtube.com You'll find SoHo in southern Manhattan just to the south of Greenwich Village. The boundaries of the heart of SoHo are roughly Houston Street to the north, Canal Street to the south, Crosby Street to the east and 6th Ave to the west. SoHo is a famous neighborhood to be the most fashionable areas in New York with its loft-style apartments, art galleries, and its diverse shopping. SoHo's Architecture and landmarks: Before we get into the modern day delights of SoHo, let's step back in history a bit. What is fascinating about this neighborhood is that it is the largest surviving cast-iron building district in the world. Many commercial buildings along Broadway and Spring Street feature this type of construction. Cast-iron's fire-resistant properties and strength made it possible to construct large building façades at less cost than comparable stone fronts. A great example of SoHo's cast-iron buildings is 28-30 Greene Street. Built in 1872, it's known as the "Queen of Greene Street". As you might know, SoHo is also well known for its loft style apartments. In the late 1800s, SoHo became an industrial district where workers toiled in dangerous conditions ...

The largest helicopter sightseeing and charter service in the Northeast. Liberty Helicopters is currently the only authorized helicopter sightseeing company in New York City. We began in the charter business on April 22, 1986 and added sightseeing tours of New York City originating from the VIP heliport on September 6th, 1990. At that time, Liberty had begun an aggressive plan selling in both the domestic and international markets. Using our strong customer base afforded us the opportunity to open a second location at the downtown Manhattan heliport in 1995. Liberty Helicopters was not only the first company to operate sightseeing tours from this multi-million dollar facility, but also the first to offer our customers the convenience of two Manhattan locations.Video brought to you by Travelindex Network and Travel & Tourism Foundation. Broadway, New York City - Video tour of Madison Square, Herald Square, Macy's and Flatiron Building

In this new video tour of New York City from the series "All Along Broadway" (see the first two episodes: "Wall street" ( www.youtube.com ) and "Union Square" ( www.youtube.com ), David Hill from New York Habitat continues his stroll along Broadway and presents Midtown Manhattan and its famous squares: Madison Square, Herald Square and Greeley Square. Broadway is one of the most famous roads in the world. It runs the length of Manhattan, from its southern tip to the northern tip of the island and continues in the Bronx, crossing many of Manhattan's neighborhoods. History The oldest "street" in New York City, Broadway was originally used as a trail by the Native Americans who lived here; later it was used by the Dutch settlers to travel to the northern forests to hunt. Madison Square Walking north along Broadway, you will reach a large intersection at Fifth Avenue and 23rd St. which creates a big square. This is Madison Square, named after the 4th US President, James Madison. It was here in 1842 where some of the first amateur baseball games were ever played. They used a vacant lot in the north part of the square (corner of Madison Avenue & 27th Street). Later, the original New York Knickerbocker Baseball club, one of the first professional baseball teams, started right here. Flatiron or Fuller Building One of the most beautiful buildings in this square is the Fuller Building, designed by Daniel Burnham in the Beaux-Arts architectural style. It was named "Fuller" after the ...

Broadway, New York - Video Tour di Midtown Manhattan (Madison & Herald Squares, Macy's)
