Rediscovering Government: Keynote Address by Eric Schneiderman | The New School for Social Research

The New School for Social Research based in New York City, offers master's and doctoral programs in anthropology, economics, philosophy, politics, psychology, and sociology; interdisciplinary master's programs in historical studies and liberal studies. THE NEW SCHOOL FOR SOCIAL RESEARCH | www.newschool.edu The Roosevelt Institute, a groundbreaking progressive think tank, will launch a new project in 2012: Rediscovering Government. With this Initiative, the Institute will employ research, public conferences, and a communications strategy to develop a new narrative about the purpose and value of public action to counter the anti-government language, attitudes, and policies that have dominated American politics for a generation. The project will launch with a major conference and a special issue in The Nation; then, informed by that discussion, the program will continue with a series of papers by leading thinkers, roundtable discussions, conferences, and an online communications campaign to create a national conversation about the role of government, and promote "active government" in the public discourse. As a result, the program will play the important role of helping to equip progressive advocates, grassroots organizations, and the media with language necessary for a strong and well-informed defense of active government.
