January 23, 2008: NS 963, light engines, the 6th unit NS 6199 catches fire when the traction motor / armature fails and the roller bearing seizes. The 4th axle is burning away the traction motor, which causes a lot of sparks and flames to fly. Ties caught on fire, however smoldered out within a few minutes. Burnt shoes could be smelled over a half-hour period after the pass-by of the train. 963 consist of NS GP60 7125, NS Dash-9-40CW, NS Dash-8-40C, NS Dash-9-40C, NS RPU-6 864 Slug mated to NS SD40-2 6199. Obviously, I called this in and the train stopped short of CP Prescott after passing over the 79.9 detector announcing 'no defects' - 963 was moving within 45 minutes. Taken in Richland. From en.wikipedia.org The City Point Railroad (established in 1838) was a nine-mile railroad which started just south of Richmond, Virginia, from City Point (now part of the independent City of Hopewell) on the navigable portion of the James River to Petersburg, Virginia. It was acquired by the South Side Railroad in 1854. After the Civil War, it became part of the Atlantic, Mississippi and Ohio Railroad (A,M&O), a trunk line across Virginia's southern tier formed by mergers in 1870 by William Mahone, who had been builder of the Norfolk and Petersburg Railroad in the 1850s. The A,M&O was the oldest portion of the Norfolk and Western (N&W) when it was formed in 1881, under new owners with a keen interest and financial investments in the coal fields of Western Virginia and West Virginia, a product which came to define and enrich the railroad.

I filmed a busy railroad crossing today at Locust Grove Georgia. Norfolk Southern Train 385 South, was coming, and so was an Ambulance and A Fire Truck, and they barely cleared the Crossing before the Train arrived, then the Train came to a Screeching halt after just missing an Automobile. All in all I had an exciting day watching Trains.

(Norfolk, VA - PilotOnline) Wave after wave of young men surged forward to take turns punching and kicking their victim.The victim's friend, a young woman, tried to pull him back into his car. Attackers came after her, pulling her hair, punching her head and causing a bloody scratch to the surface of her eye. She called 911. A recording told her all lines were busy. She called again. Busy. On her third try, she got through and, hysterical, could scream only their location. "Church and Brambleton. Church and Brambleton. Church and Brambleton." It happened four blocks from where they work, here at The Virginian-Pilot. Two weeks have passed since reporters Dave Forster and Marjon Rostami - friends to me and many others at the newspaper - were attacked on a Saturday night as they drove home from a show at the Attucks Theatre. They had stopped at a red light, in a crowd of at least 100 young people walking on the sidewalk. Rostami locked her car door. Someone threw a rock at her window. Forster got out to confront the rock-thrower, and that's when the beating began. Neither suffered grave injuries, but both were out of work for a week. Forster's torso ached from blows to his ribs, and he retained a thumb-sized bump on his head. Rostami fears to be alone in her home. Forster wishes he'd stayed in the car. To kick off July, and with nothing going on along the NS Harrisburg Line on July 1, 2010, I decided to take a trip to Amtrak Keystone Corridor in the beautiful Lancaster Countryside. There were even some Norfolk Southern bonuses, as well as Strasburg! We visit all 3 grade crossings on the Keystone Corridor as well as some new locations from the previous video. Upon arrival to Newcomers Road in Mt. Joy, I missed the first eastbound Amtrak, train 642, after making a wrong turn and getting stuck behind slow drivers. 607 wasn't too far off so I figured I'd just recline in the car when all of a sudden the gates went down! I was really confused, stumbled out of the car and plopped the camera down, unfortunately I was on the backlit side of the tracks, but to my surprise, there was an eastbound NS local! I do apologize, it's not that great of a shot. H2J - Mt. Joy (Newcomers Road) NS GP38-2 5673 The rest of the day pretty much continues with the normal Amtrak runs until later in the day with a visit to Strasburg, and finishing off with an NS local. There was typical railfan luck, including getting cloud smucked and wind terrorized, but overall it was a fantastic outing. This was the first visit to both crossings in Mt. Joy, as well as a shot at Gordonville and Gap, and I was surprised to find the PRR position lights were removed from Irishtown, they also put an E-Bell on the south crossbuck, which this crossing had previously had no audio warning devices. 607 - Mt. Join us as we chase an empty coal train lead by NS SD70m-2 #2679 along the MGA Mine District from West Brownsville south through Bescoe and Mather on Sunday, October 7, 2007. Despite the first hints of fall foilage, temperatures topped 85 degrees, making the day feel more like July than October. The MGA Mine District consists of the former Monongahela Railway. The Mon was eventually controlled by Conrail, and later became part of Norfolk Southern in 1999. CSX maintains trackage rights over the former MGA system as well, with connections in Newell, PA and Fairmont, WV.

**Please Watch in HD** 12/19/2009 Conrail Shared Assets train WPCA-11 heads northbound on the Pennsgrove Secondary on a snowy Saturday afternoon. WPCA-11 isusually a 7-day a week train that runs between Conrail's Camden Pavonia yard and Deepwater, NJ. At the helm of today's train is Norfolk Southern SD45-2 #1701 and CSXT SD40-2 #8817 (CR Quality paint). Train was filmed passing through Woodbury, NJ. Shortly after this train returned north, Conrail Shared Assets shut down operations for the snowstorm. The Philadelphia/Southern NJ area recieved upwards of 21 inches of snow. August 13, 2007, Noon: Watch at least the first 3 minutes, this video is an entire documentary on what happens when a train gets a hotbox, in this case it was a false alarm. 11J has units NS 9674, UP SD70M 4897, and NS ES40DC 7510. I thought I was just filming the 'all the 11J' as usual, but was surprised to hear an alarm and then the detector report 'Hotbox, southside, axle two five seven!' I have many clips on this video, the first being the train passing, then locations blocked by the stopped 11J. Then his headend moves to clear the crossings about 1 and a half hours later. Notice the conductor walking back. Then the train finally moves for a bit and then stops at CP Dorf for a recrew, crew was due at 3 and the train sat there until 4:30. The train got moving by 5, a whopping 20 miles in 5 and a half hours. Hence the name 'all day 11J' which was given by the dispatcher to 11J a few days prior to this incident.
