January 12, 1984 This was a vintage N. Carolina - Maryland matchup featuring players like Jordan, Len Bias, Sam Perkins, Kenny Smith, Brad Daugherty and more. Bias had a great first half scoring 16 points. Finished with 24pts and 4rbs. (24pts was his career-high at that time). Perkins was with 26/12. Jordan scored 21 and he was a monster on the boards with 12 rbds (7 off). He also had 2 blocks and at least 4 steals that I put in the video but could be even more. He came up with all the big points, rebounds and the steal at the end of the game. And of course, he has his famous dunk at the buzzer. North Carolina Man, James Verone Robs Bank For $1 To Get Health Care In Jail
A North Carolina man robbed a local store for a dollar just so he could get health care in prison, he said. James Verone, 59, handed the teller a note demanding $1 and claimed he had a gun, ABC News reported. He then walked away and sat down, waiting for police. "I started to walk away from the teller, then I went back and said, I'll be sitting right over there in the chair waiting for the police," he said, according to local television station 9News. "I wanted to make it known that this wasn't for monetary reasons, but for medical reasons." Verone, who committed the robbery on June 9, does not plan to pay his bail, which was recently reduced to $2000. With little money to his name and many medical problems, including a growth on his chest, two ruptured disks and an unidentified problem with his left foot, he said the "robbery" was his last resort. "The pain was beyond the tolerance that I could accept," he told the Gaston Gazette. "I kind of hit a brick wall with everything." He calculated that a non-violent crime like the bank hold-up would land him in jail, and even enable him to collect Social Security benefits upon his release. Donald Sullivan says the Constitution gives us the right to travel the public highways, and he shouldn't be charged or regulated for simply exercising his right. You might be surprised to hear a judge ruled in his favor. Sullivan said, "I can govern myself. And America is about self-government." "If a person proves he's responsible, leave him alone, he can govern himself, he doesn't need to be bothered by the government," said Sullivan. Donald Sullivan isn't your typical guy. Deadly NC tornado rages in Sanford, Raleigh leaving massive destruction
Rescuers are searching for survivors in the US state of North Carolina after deadly tornadoes killed at least 21 and injured more than 80 others. A state of emergency has been declared, after high winds destroyed more than 130 homes and damaged many more. Hurricane-force winds and drenching rains from Irene battered the North Carolina coast early Saturday as the storm began its potentially catastrophic run up the Eastern Seaboard. More than 2 million people were told to move to safer places. The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Irene's maximum sustained winds were around 85 mph on Saturday morning, down from about 100 mph a day earlier. But they warned the hurricane would remain a large and powerful one throughout the day as it headed toward the mid-Atlantic.
