North Korean Rocket Launch Fails

Friday, April 13, 2012 11:21 +0900 (JST) North Korea has launched what it called a satellite-carrying rocket but the projectile disintegrated soon after the launch. Japan's Defense Ministry says debris fell into the Yellow Sea, without affecting Japanese territory. The ministry says a US early warning satellite system confirmed the launch at about 7:40 AM, Japan Time. The projectile was launched from the western coast of North Korea toward the south and flew for more than one minute. A Defense Ministry official says the projectile reached an altitude of about 120 kilometers before it disintegrated into around 10 pieces. They are thought to have fallen into the Yellow Sea west of the Korean Peninsula. The official says none of the pieces reached Japanese territory. The National Police Agency and the Fire and Disaster Management Agency say there are no reports of damage. The Defense Ministry is closely analyzing the trajectory using data provided by the US military and obtained by Aegis destroyers from Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force. Two Aegis destroyers have been positioned in the East China Sea around Okinawa, and another in the Sea of Japan. Cedits: NHK World English W1TV 10 MINUTES www.w1tv.com.br

Kim Jong Il's Foreign Adventure - North Korea

North Korean villages in the Siberian wilderness? To see more go to www.youtube.com Follow us on Facebook (goo.gl or Twitter (www.twitter.com We take a madcap look at one of the weirdest experiments of globalisation: North Korea's deceased leader Kim Jong-Il exporting his people and propaganda machine to Russia in a bid for cold, hard cash. "You should see their way of living. They live in smelly barns in multiples of ten," a Russian police chief tells us as he drives towards the Korean village. Speaking to the Korean loggers as they take a cigarette break the picture is painted in even starker terms: "What he's saying here is that the majority of workers have a ten-year plus labour commitment to live and work in the middle of nowhere for almost no pay." So why do they do it? As ever the North Korea propoganda machine is present to remind the workers of the 'home land' and the wise teachings of Kim Jong-Il and his father Kim Il Sung. A sign at the town reads: "Kim Il Sung lives with us forever." Yet travelling into one of the strangest of North Korea's frontiers, it is clear that the hermit kingdom's isolationist tactics are not paying off in these camps. Will new leader Kim Jong-un continue the bizarre experiment? January 2012

North Korea's Kim Jong-Un gives first speech at centenary parade - 15Apr2012

PYONGYANG: North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un delivered his first ever public speech on Sunday at a major military parade in Pyongyang to mark 100 years since the birth of the country's founder Kim Il-Sung. The commemorations came just two days after a satellite launch timed to mark the centenary fizzled out embarrassingly when the rocket apparently exploded within minutes of blastoff and plunged into the sea. The celebratory performances by civilians and troops nonetheless went ahead in a vast square named after the country's founder, Kim Jong-Un's grandfather. Live TV footage showed thousands of goose-stepping soldiers carrying red flags march into the large Kim Il-Sung Square to the sound of drumbeats. "I offer the purest respect and the greatest honour to great comrades Kim Il-Sung and Kim Jong-Il," Jong-Un said in what was described by Pyongyang's state TV as the first ever public speech by the young leader. Jong-Un, clad in a dark Mao suit, fidgeted as he read from a prepared statement from a viewing stand overlooking tens of thousands of troops taking part in the massive parade. He read quickly in a youthful voice, rarely looking up from the prepared text of the speech before a bank of microphones. "I express my greetings to our compatriots in South Korea and across the world who dedicate themselves to reunification and the prosperity of the nations," he told cheering crowds. "Let's move on toward our final victory!" he said, pointing his finger ahead to cheering ...

Rockets over North Korea: Stunning video of Pyongyang's festive fireworks

Rockets exploded above North Korea Sunday, this time in celebration, as a glittering fireworks display lit up the night sky of Pyongyang. The pyrotechnics show was part of the climax to days of special events intended to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Kim Il Sung, officially revered in North Korea as its founding leader. On Sunday night, sound and light erupted above the Taedong River, which runs through the centre of capital Pyongyang. The main backdrop to the show was a monument called "The Tower of the Juche Idea." Juche is an ideology which North Korean authorities say was developed by Kim Il Sung. It is often translated into English as "self reliance." Earlier Sunday, North Korea's new leader Kim Jong Un made his first known televised public speech - a major departure from the style of his father and predecessor as leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Il. A massive military parade through central Pyongyang's Kim Il Sung Square followed Kim's speech. RT on Twitter: twitter.com RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com

"Hell holes": North Korea's secret prison camps

Amnesty International has published satellite imagery and new testimony that shed light on the horrific conditions in North Korea's network of political prison camps, which hold an estimated 200000 people. The images reveal the location, size and conditions inside the camps. Amnesty International spoke to a number of people, including former inmates from the political prison camp at Yodok as well as guards in other political prison camps, to obtain information about life in the camps. According to former detainees at the political prison camp at Yodok, prisoners are forced to work in conditions approaching slavery and are frequently subjected to torture and other cruel, inhumane, and degrading treatment. All the detainees at Yodok have witnessed public executions. "North Korea can no longer deny the undeniable. For decades the authorities have refused to admit to the existence of mass political prison camps," said Sam Zarifi, Amnesty International Asia Pacific Director.

North Korean leader calls for 'final victory'

North Korea's new leader has delivered his first major public speech on the occasion of the centenary of its founder's birth, calling for a push to "final victory" at a mass military parade in the country's capital. Kim Jong-un, the third Kim to rule North Korea, read monotonously from a script in Pyongyang's central square on Sunday after marching soldiers and sailors demonstrated the North's military power. In a move that indicated Kim would stick to the "military-first" policies that have put North Korea on the verge of nuclear weapons capacity, he lauded his grandfather, Kim Il-sung, and his father, Kim Jong-il, as the "founder and the builder of our revolutionary armed forces". Inside North Korea by an American Tourist - Part 1 of 4 HD (TRAIN PORTION)

Train travel from China to North Korea: Beijing-Pyongyang. See Videos 2, 3 and 4 for the walking tour of the DPRK. This was a propaganda tour that brings tourists to the country's showcase cities and most fertile regions. I posted these videos to give people who are thinking about visiting North Korea an overview of what they will likely see there (A variety of tours are offered but in general the itineraries are similar). These videos are not truncated or narrated, making them long and often boring, but NK footage is rare, so more is better in this case. I was mostly allowed to film openly because, again, it was of the best areas with the better fed and dressed elite population that the NK government wants the outside world to see -- which is poor, yet not much worse off than Eastern Europe or China was in the late 1970's. Don't be fooled though, these images are not representative of most of North Korea. Look for hidden videos smuggled out to see how too many North Koreans live, with oppression, famine, orphans, and not to mention the 200000 political victims living in soviet style Gulag camps. Should you hurry up and visit North Korea before it collapses? Unfortunately, you likely have many years to plan a trip, because nothing looks to change anytime soon. South Korea, China and the USA are all content with North Korea's continued existence. The US and South Korea have many non-military avenues to take if it wanted the regime to collapse, because North Korea is so ...
