Novation Launchpad - User Mode 1 (Drum Rack)
In this video we take a look at User Mode 1 on the Novation Launchpad, which is taylored for triggering Drum Racks in Ableton Live. By default the Pad LEDs don't respond when pressed in User Mode 1 or when notes are being played by Ableton so I'll show you some MIDI routing that will allow you to get a visual feedback. Using the Drum Racks in User Mode 1 it's quite easy to build up a drum loop using Overdub in a MIDI clip.

Developed with Serato, this palm-sized cue point and looping controller has been designed to fit exactly where you need it: on your turntables, CDJs, mixer or laptop. Dicer always ships in pairs - one for each side. Plug Dicer in, slot it on your turntable/CDJ, and you can instantly set cue points and use them to trigger 'Hot Cues'. Or, flip Dicer into 'Auto-Loop' or 'Loop Roll' modes, to trigger loops, or 'roll' sections of the track to create climaxes, drops and glitchy breaks. Each 'mode' illuminates Dicer's pads a different colour, so you can instantly see what mode the pads in, even in dark clubs and venues. The forthcoming Scratch Live 2.1 update will automatically map the Dicer to these functions and provide full LED feedback - red for Hot Cues, green for Loop Roll, and amber for Auto-Loop. Dicer can control all cue-point and looping functions in the current version of Serato Scratch Live 2.0. Novation Launchpad Beat Repeat (Using User Mode 2)
*Update* Here's the Audio Effect Rack as requested: www.sendspace.com Having tried out the Beat Repeat effect using Automap we are now going to take a look at how to map the Beat Repeat to the User Mode 2 Section of the Launchpad. If you want to use the Launchpad's standard Control Surface Mappings including the Clip Matrix, Mixer etc, seemingly you can't have Automap MIDI on at the same. The MIDI messages output by User Mode 2 are Note Values C, C#, D etc, so to map a Continuous control such as the Grid Value on the Beat Repeat you have to map a range of keys. Since the MIDI message is Note it's behaviour is Toggle, rather than Momentary, unlike how it was set up in Automap MIDI. Full details, with FX Rack Presets to follow soon! ;-)

How to use the new novation dicer. RED is for setting, deleting & triggering cue point. GREEN is for auto loop. YELLOW is for loops 1,2,4,8 & 16 bars. You can also midi map the yellow and green. I go over that in another video. It is attached to this one. If you have Serato and do lots of live mash ups or just use lots of loops and cues in your mix. You need to spend the 100 dollars and get the Dicer.
