Simi Valley Nuclear Disaster

Simi Valley California was the site of the worst nuclear disaster in US history in 1959, and the amounts of radiation leaked to the environment and atomosphere were more than 240 times that of the accident at 3-Mile Island. The area is beautiful today, but what still remains from many decades ago?

Japan's Nuclear Disaster Explained

Donate: american.redcross.org In which Hank explains nuclear power and the situation at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant in Japan. In short, fission products continually decaying in both active and spent fuel rods create enough heat to melt themselves. The coolant systems that would prevent this from happening were disabled by the tsunami. Cracks in the fuel rods created an environment allowing hydrogen to form, which concentrated and then exploded several times destroying both the primary and secondary containment structures at at least one reactor. The result is that the reactor needs to remain cooled or else radiation from the meltdown will be released to the environment in significant quantities. The people working to keep the reactor from overheating are risking their lives to do so, and we all hope they will be able to stabilize the reactor without harm.

Windscale Britains Biggest Nuclear Disaster ( Nothing compared to Fukushima ).

Fifty years ago, on the night of 10 October 1957, Britain was on the brink of an unprecedented nuclear tragedy. A fire ripped through the radioactive materials in the core of Windscale, Britain's first nuclear reactor. Tom Tuohy, the deputy general manager at the site, led the team faced with dealing with a nightmare no-one had thought possible. "Mankind had never faced a situation like this; there's no-one to give you any advice," he said. Tuohy and his men were confronted by a terrifying dilemma. If they let the fire burn out, it could spread radioactivity over a large area of Britain. But if they put water on the reactor, they risked turning it into a nuclear bomb that could kill them all. Now tapes of the inquiry into the accident, heard for the first time in a BBC film, reveal the reasons why the politicians covered up the causes of the accident. Scientists had been warning about the dangers of an accident for some time. The safety margins of the radioactive materials inside the reactor were being further and further eroded. "They were running much too close to the precipice," says Dr Dunworth, a senior manager in the Nuclear Research Laboratory in Harwell, Oxfordshire, who was one of those highlighting the potential dangers. But the politicians and the military ignored the warnings; instead they increased demands on Windscale to produce material for an H-bomb. For 50 years, the official record on the accident has been that the very men who had averted a potentially ...

Surviving Disaster Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster part 1

Examining the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster, this docudrama is hard to watch. Told from the perspective of investigating scientist Valeri Legasov, the story makes no bones about being a subjective attempt to tie together the social, political and human fallout from the worlds worst nuclear accident. And seeing the graphically recreated effects of grotesque levels of radiation, it quickly becomes clear that here were both human bravery and stupidity beyond measure. Workers at the power station had not been informed of the potentially dangerous design flaw in their reactor that information was classified and so staff didnt know that hitting the button to shut the plant down could, in fact, cause it to go into meltdown. Scared for their jobs when they should have been scared for their lives, management then claimed the problems could be sorted when in fact there was no reactor left; the minister, meanwhile, initially felt that panic is worse than radiation. Later, divers knowingly swam to their deaths in a successful attempt to avoid a thermal explosion that would have levelled 200 square kilometres and irradiated 200 million peoples water supply. "

Disaster At Chernobyl (Nothing compared to Fukushima ).

The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine (officially Ukrainian SSR), which was under the direct jurisdiction of the central Moscow's authorities. An explosion and fire released large quantities of radioactive contamination into the atmosphere, which spread over much of Western USSR and Europe. It is considered the worst nuclear power plant accident in history atleast until Fukushima, and is one of only three classified as a level 7 event on the International Nuclear Event Scale (the other being the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster). The battle to contain the contamination and avert a greater catastrophe ultimately involved over 500000 workers and cost an estimated 18 billion rubles, crippling the Soviet economy. The disaster began during a systems test on Saturday, 26 April 1986 at reactor number four of the Chernobyl plant, which is near the city of Prypiat and within a close proximity to the administrative border with Belarus and Dnieper river. There was a sudden power output surge, and when an emergency shutdown was attempted, a more extreme spike in power output occurred, which led to a reactor vessel rupture and a series of explosions. These events exposed the graphite moderator of the reactor to air, causing it to ignite. The resulting fire sent a plume of highly radioactive smoke fallout into the atmosphere and over an extensive geographical area, including Pripyat. The plume ...

Nuclear Disaster Preparedness Special: Cold War Atomic Bomb Evacuation Film (1957)

DVD: www.amazon.com CONELRAD (Control of Electromagnetic Radiation) was a method of emergency broadcasting to the public of the United States in the event of enemy attack during the Cold War. It was intended to serve two purposes; to prevent Soviet bombers from homing in on American cities by using radio or TV stations as beacons, and to provide essential civil defense information. US President Harry S. Truman established CONELRAD in 1951. After the development of intercontinental ballistic missiles reduced the likelihood of a bomber attack, CONELRAD was replaced by the Emergency Broadcast System on August 5, 1963, which was later replaced with the Emergency Alert System in 1997; all were administered by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Unlike its successors, the EBS and EAS, CONELRAD was never used for nor intended to be used for severe weather warnings or local civil emergencies. Prior to 1951, there was no method that the US government could use to broadcast warnings to citizens in the event of an emergency. However, radio stations and networks could interrupt normal programming and issue a bulletin in the event of an emergency, as happened during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, as well as the first successful tornado warning near Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City in 1948. This type of broadcasting was the forerunner to CONELRAD. The CONELRAD concept was originally known as the Key Station System. According to an FCC document created ...

Windscale: Britain's Biggest Nuclear Disaster - Part 01

On the night of 10 October 1957 a fire broke out in Pile Number one at Windscale. The reactor had been loaded beyond its original design limit in order to provide materials for Britain's nuclear weapons programme. Nuclear fuel cartridges caught fire, releasing contaminants into the atmosphere via the reactors air cooling system. As fire ripped through the pile, the staff at Windscale struggled to find a way to extinguish it and avert disaster, a situation no-one had ever faced before. Windscale: Britain's biggest nuclear disaster was broadcast on Monday, 8 October, 2007, at 2100 BST on BBC Two. VHS Recording.

Japan Marks Anniversary of Fukushima Nuclear Accident

A year later, decontamination and construction crews are still working to clean up the nuclear disaster at Japan's Fukushima Dai-ichi Power plant. Experts expect the cleanup will take decades and cost tens of billions of dollars. The earthquake and resulting tsunami that hit Japan 's east coast last March 11th was one of the biggest the world has ever recorded, killing nearly 16000 people, injuring 6000 and causing another 3000 to go missing. But the natural disaster was eclipsed by news of the nuclear one, which was the worst since the Chernobyl meltdown in 1986. Japan's struggles in dealing with Fukushima captivated the world's attention for weeks, as a small group of men in radiation suits fought to cool the plant's damaged and burning reactors. 200000 area residents were evacuated. Polling shows public opinion around nuclear power also remains damaged, with the possible impact of natural disasters on plants and the power to contain damage still in question. Eleven US power companies are currently seeking license extensions for 15 nuclear power plants across America built decades ago. In the wake of Fukushima, the future of old plants, and the viability of new ones, hangs in the balance.

Japan earthquake: Danger of nuclear disaster after Fukushima plant failure?

Follow latest updates at twitter.com and www.facebook.com North-east Japan has been swamped by a major tsunami - and the entire Pacific region is now on alert. It was caused by an 8.9-magnitude earthquake that struck 130 kilometres off the eastern coast - sending a reported 10-metre wall of water inland, causing widespread devastation. 32 people are confirmed dead - but that number's expected to rise. The wave has also reached Russia's Kuril islands to the north, reportedly around a metre high. In Japan, 200 people have reportedly been washed away, with several others missing in Japan's Sendai city. Tokyo's been all-but shut down - with fires and injuries widely reported there. Millions are without electricity. Norita International Airport is also closed. 20 powerful aftershocks have been recorded since the first quake, which was the strongest ever recorded in Japan - and the 6th biggest-ever. An earthquake has now been felt in Hawaii - measuring 4.5 - with tsunami waves expected within a few horus.

Inside report from Fukushima nuclear reactor evacuation zone

Fukushima, Japan - The Japanese government has issued the evacuation order on March 12 for the residents living within the 20 kilometer radius of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Since then, residents have left their homes, and the "no man land" has been out of touch with the rest of the world. A Japanese journalist, Tetsuo Jimbo, ventured through the evacuation zone last Sunday, and filed the following video report. He says that, inside the evacuation zone, homes, building, roads and bridges, which were torn down by Tsunami, are left completely untouched, and the herd of cattle and pet dogs, left behind by the owners, wonders around the town while the radiation level remains far beyond legal limits. This episode follows the accident as told by Valeri Legasov (played by Adrian Edmondson, in one of his more serious roles), the Russian scientist who was a key member of the Soviet government commission formed to investigate the causes of the catastrophe and to plan the mitigation of its consequences. This is quite a chilling tale of events. Some of the documentary was filmed on location in the abandoned town of Pripyat and inside one of the remaining 3 (now closed) nuclear reactors located at Chernobyl.

Japan Declares Nuclear Emergency After Devastating Earthquake - Alex Jones Tv 2/2

Paul Joseph Watson www.infowars.com March 11, 2011 The horrifying consequences of the biggest earthquake to hit Japan since records began are only just beginning to be discovered, with the tsunami that followed causing massive devastation and engulfing cities and airports, leading to the declaration of a nuclear emergency at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant after efforts to cool malfunctioning reactor cores failed. The 8.9 magnitude quake that struck Japan's north eastern coast this morning sent 30 foot high waves sweeping through impacted areas and the death toll is climbing by the hour. But an even greater tragedy could be imminent after Japanese authorities declared a nuclear emergency following technicians' failure to pump water to cool a nuclear reactor plant located in the town of Okuma. "The operator of the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant reported an abnormality Friday following a powerful earthquake which hit a wide area in northeastern Japan including Fukushima Prefecture, the industry ministry said," reports Kyodo Wire. "The system to cool reactor cores in case of emergency stopped at the No. 1 and No. 2 reactors of the plant operated by Tokyo Electric Power Co., it said." NHK Broadcasting reports that all six reactors shut down immediately following the earthquake, but that electrical problems prevented cooler pumps in reactor #1 from functioning. Emergency cooling systems were successfully activated for reactor #2, but presumably failed for reactor #1. Under ...

Japan Nuclear Disaster Meltdown Fukushima Radioactive Material in Atmosphere

Japan Nuclear Disaster Meltdown Fukushima Radioactive Material in Atmosphere 3-11-2011: ''In the aftermath of the Japanese earthquake, a nuclear reactor was fractured and radioactive material has been leaking into the atmosphere. Author Harvey Wasserman updates us that as many as three reactors are now under stress in Japan. He believes the radiation spewing into the air from the Japanese nuclear power plant could blow deep across western Asia and might even lead to the apocalypse'' ---- Japan Nuclear Disaster Meltdown Radioactive Material in Atmosphere 3-11-2011 earthquake nuclear reactor Tsunami Killuminati 331 HAARP NWO Mafia Agenda Problem government environment news analysis television interviews protests politics apocalypse health atomic

Radioactive Alert! Nuclear Emergency!!!!.

WE HAVE BEEN LIED TO! This lie, perpetrated by world leaders and with most of the mainstream media's cooperation, silence or gross negligence, could very well turn out to be the most devastating lie in the history of civilization. There have been lethal amoumts of radioactive isotopes pouring into the atmosphere since the first day of the Fukishima Nuclear Crisis in March. There have been 3 FULL MELTDOWNS ! There is still no end in sight.. Contamination has reached land, sea, and air. The entire Northern Hemisphere has been contaminated, some areas more than others. Many.radiation safety standards across the hemisphere have been raised to thousands of times what they were before this nuclear crisis. Instead of being told the truth and how to minimize this radioactive danger to the best of our ability. for ourselves and our childrenm we have been told that we are safe and that there is no danger for us....So ,people remain unaware and do nothing.... "Don't Worry....Be Happy" This is the lie. This is a genocidal lie! Part 1: www.youtube.com Part 3: www.youtube.com Fort Calhoun near Omaha, Nebraska "On June 6, 2011, the Fort Calhoun pressurized water nuclear reactor 20 miles north of Omaha, Nebraska entered emergency status due to imminent flooding from the Missouri River. A day later, there was an electrical fire requiring plant evacuation. Then, on June 8th, NRC event reports confirmed the fire resulted in the loss of cooling for the reactor's spent fuel pool. The discussion includes specific details of the technical failures at Fort Calhoun, the risks of coolant loss at overcrowded "spent" fuel pools, and the national hazards of nuclear facilities along the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, and other water sites during the current period of floods and climate change." link to watch full interview on youtube (not my vid so no friendly visuals to see ;p): (full 40 minutes) www.youtube.com download the audio podcast here: www.radio4all.net Arnie Gundersen's Updates on Fukushima: www.fairewinds.com KETV News' Piece on the Nuclear Plant www.ketv.com MucH LoVe!
